slow?

I've got a slight problem also. i run on pent 4, near top of the line. 1 gig of ram, 6800 OC video card and when I play on the more zoomed out levels, things slow down. Also when I view the game in the globe I get funny lines on the tiles. I'm gonna try to kill some processes. Must have some osrt of damn adware stealing my RAM, F*uck! Anyways, I can any other game on high settings, but this one lags a bit, strange.

Yes. At least if you want to play on anything bigger than the small maps and/or want to run other programs in the background.

On larger maps when loading up a game, scrolling around, or switching to world view, there is a huge difference between 512MB and 1GB that I've noticed. Not really much difference when stationary. I still end up using quite a bit of pagefile on a Huge map later in the game with 1GB even though (~700MB used by CIV), so all the way up to 2GB is probably going to be paying off with better performance.

Aeson, thanks again. Sigh, time to buy some more memory.

Galumphus, sorry for thread interruption.

Doom3 doesnt have to keep track of as much things as Civ, sure, its more grafically demanding(though Ive seen better)

For most strat games, ram is very important.
Plus, playing a FPS or MMO on 256 MB of ram cant be well either
