SNEAK PEAK: Interstellar Colonization AND cIVRPG

Noticed this on the screenie in the first post, you have mercury listed as a 'gas planet' which it is not at all. being so close to the sun it has essentially no atmosphere, it's all burnt away. Venus also isn't really a gas planet in the sense that saturn and jupiter are. it just has a very thick atmosphere.
unless perhaps it's a gas planet in that there are gas mines there?...

anyway, i'm really looking forward to this, keep up the good work.

Yeah, Mercury and Venus are both what we might call "rocky planets" or "terrestrial planets" is the official term I believe.

And maybe "gas planet" should be renamed "gas giant" since that's the term often used... and I've never really heard of such a planet that's nearly the same size as the Earth, so I'd say "giant" would apply even in these fictional solar systems.

Oops, I thought I already answered this.

And yeah I know, they arnt really gas planets. And the correct term for a saturn/jupiter planet would be a Jovian planet or Jovian Giant.

But I wanna keep it simple, and I dont want to make too many planet types. I could rename the small "Gas" planets to something else. The reason they are gas planets atm, is because that is *almost* what they are (venus being closer to it then mercury are), and I dont want to make those planets colonizeable from the point you get Colony Ships like Rocky planets are (I am differienting terrestrial planets from Rocky because I am using the term Terrestrial to Earth-like planets with atmosphere and possible life).

Although, the naming system at the moment names the planet by the order they are colonizing, so if I dont change it (which I am planning to do), a Gas Giant, or Icy planet (as I call them) could be named Mercury.

And I am not going to be 100% realistic with this mod. Gameplay is my biggest concern, even if I'm going to be as realistic as I can and you guys request. (Ultimately it's my decision though...)

I support this 100%. I think that's most important - gameplay and atmosphere. How many mods and games suffered because they were too realistic and ultimately unplayable.

Agreed sharick. Many a mod has imploded worrying about the little things when they forgot to make it fun.

Hello and wonderful work so far. Now to questions;

1: do you intend to make differnet types of stars, maybe just for graphical concerns and variety towards the end, or not, depending on whether or not the 'city' still gets its tile production and food stuffs.

2: An idea/suggestion actually, perhaps you could implement allignment more like FfH as a semi independent variable and then make the 'religions' into galactic organizations? Possible examples of such being: Star Wars' 'Galactic Empire' or the Star Trek's 'Federation of Planets'. The Holy city could be the capitol. I had intended to do this with my Sci-fi mod which will now likely never be created. Also I think FfH has gotten it so their allignments can actually change based on civics and 'religion' choice.

Also, an offer. I am an Aerospace Engineer (albeit in training only) and a fairly decent artist who has been experimenting with Blender, I would love to help with the mod, even if all I can do is concept art in the end. I also have a bit of experience with C++ and could at least look over the code to try and help.

Oh, another question, how many civs had you intended on having?

Looks promising... Can't wait till release.
Did you take some inspiration from Master of Orion?

Sorry, I havnt been online for 2-3 days.

As to Interstellar Colonization
There is now a team working on the mod as I've said before.
And there is alot of bugfixing, feature finishing and design work being done.

cIVRPG
No progress, its on Ice until Interstellar Colonization is released.

I'm very excited to see this, and am drueling with anticipation to play it. Grey Fox this looks better than the copy of Galciv2 I own. And its not even released yet, but before i rid myself of my Galciv and send it away, i need a copy to play... I hope that a relaese isnt too far away.

No more ryhming today.

2 Questions:

Will Civs be different races? I.e. humans and aliens?

And, Will barbarians be pirates from all civs/races? Or some sort of molevelant race that doesnt respond to diplomacy? (Crosses fingers and hopes for Babylon 5 Shadows type bad guys)

And one comment:
Please make the barbarians BADDAZ. I love the idea that some units enter territory and some stay outside it, but please, make them a force to be reckoned with.

Races. Each race might have different leaders, the two human leaders might be based on two different ways that our race got more unified. In a diplomatic or military way. (Making that leaders trait reflect that)

We have only some initial thought on what to do with the barbarians. The current idea is more like your first question, that they will be pirates formed from all races (stuff like civil wars on planets, rebellions of civilizations could increase pirate activity). That doesnt stop it from being other kinds of barbarians in the game.

Noted. ;)

Well Grey Fox, I hope you heard the good news that you have to come up with graphics for one planet less... Pluto is no longer one. ;)

Pluto is a planet, did it get downgraded to a moon? Or what? And what of Charon, ITS moon? Or are they considered binary planetoids?
