So, No Britain?

Apparently, "the embargo" has been lifted and it's reported that Britain/England is not in the base game. Is that true?
Britain is not in the base game, but it has a lot of company.

I think it's very likely that Britain will be in one of the early DLC.

Once we are at 39 civs (13 each era from the 2 x 4 civ DLCs), then there will be Britain... the only one that people are pretty much 100% sure of (not sure which DLC its in, but Most people are certain it will be in.) [its the only one in every guess of 8 I have seen]

I mean, until like 8 weeks ago people were saying Britain was 100% gonna be in base game. Not sure it’s reasonable to say “100% sure.”

Do I think Britain will be in the game by September? Yes. Would I put money on it? Yes. But is it guaranteed? Far from it.

Both Britain and Germany will be in the true base game, the release date for which hasn't been announced yet.

However, neither will be in the paid Early Access / Beta, which will be playable starting on February 6th.

It doesn't matter what Firaxis numbers the version, whether 0.9, 1.0, or 2.0; until Britain is in the game, it's not fully and truly Civilization

So, have we never had a full and true Civilization game ever? Because as far as I can tell we've never had Britain before, only England?

Does Prussia not count as Germany, either?

Yeh it has been known for a while as others have mentioned.
I suspect we will get an entire British pathway in future DLC, and maybe a British leader - but it is not guaranteed. As someone else pointed out, a few months ago people thought Britain was in the base game.

I would say its 70% likely, the developers seem more keen on previously lesser known leaders right now, but they know a lot of players want to play a British Isles civ. It may have been a conscious decision to leave British Isles civs out in order to sell future DLC.

I'm oh so tempted to point out that, in the wake of Brexit, Great Britain is no longer a major civilization. But it would be rude to point that out, so I won't :)
As a Brit myself i would have to agree our relevance has diminished :)
Fortunately this is a game and the developers state that a criteria for selection is how much the civ has influenced the world, and for good or ill the British have had a massive influence on the worlds history. It is a real head scratcher that they left out the largest empire in history in a game that is about empire building and colonisation. Anyway time will tell- the dlc will soon be out :)

It will be part of the DLC cash grab, GB should be in as an exploration civ not the Normans with the again another DLC grab switching into the Modern nations of Scotland and England

Normandy is essentially England, so you have it.
...No, no it isn't. That would be like having England/Britain in the game and saying that it's essentially the U.S.A.

I‘m not British, but I think it‘s one of the places whose civ gaming inhabitants can deal better with there being no modern civ than many other places. Imagine the uproar if there was no China, Japan or America in the modern age. The British have - at least in large parts - a much healthier understanding of nationalism (there‘s still too much flag waving as opposed to constructive criticism for my German taste though), and can presumably live with a game that doesn‘t include Britain at launch as long as there are enough people that confirm that it is the/one of the most important empires in history and merits inclusion soon. In the end, their pragmatism is one of the best characteristics of the British in my opinion. I guess FXS also knows this in some way or the other.

That said, it‘s obviously a good strategies to make some extra money as well. I can hardly imagine a civ player who doesn‘t want Britain included, either to play it or to play against it.

I just hope we‘ll see a new face for the inevitable British leader and not Vicky or Lizzy again.

England should be the Exploration Era civilization and Britain its Modern Era successor, in the same way Castile should be in Exploration and Spain in Modern.

100% disagree Britain as a modern day civ is a busted flush.
Over 65 nations have gained independence from the “United “ Kingdom and it would make sense from a continuous point of view that the United Kingdom switch like shortly in real life ..,
Back into Scotland England and Ireland.

Maybe when 2K hard sell the missing Age
We could have England/Scotland switched to the UK then back into Scotland England .
Might even buy it then

If we see the "Modern Era" as covering the period between 1910 and 1970, which is one of many definitions, then yeah, I would agree with you.

However, Civ7 seems to be taking a much wider scope in what they refer to as "Modern Era". Apparently, they are including anything from around 1750 to 1970 in their definition. With that in mind, I guess the British being in the in-game modern era makes sense.

When I think of England/Britain in Civ I'm think many boats and big industry.
I think we need a many boats leader so obviously Vic...Horatio Nelson.
