So... no MODS for Mac? NOT True!

Apologies AlanH, I was too stupid to realize I needed to start in library to get to the destination code  I got mods up and running now though. thanks!!!

I had the mod button on there and the TSL Yet Another Giant Earth mod but now the mod button is gone i'm trying to get it back on now

The mod button disappears each time you get an update to the software. If that has happened, you have to go back and edit the MainMenu.lua file again.

The mod button is back but now it has these two new buttons Viking DLC and some other DLC thing and I can't click on anything on the main menu. I have to turn off the computer every time I try to start the game cause it won't close on its own (about ten times now) and it is really annoying

What Mac are you on? (CPU, graphics, memory, OS X version)

i just updated my imac to an 10.6.8 version yesterday and thats when the problems started

My Mac Pro is running 10.6.8, and it launches OK, and starts a random game in the Steam version of Civ5 with no problem. It sounds as if you either need to reinstall Civ5, or get on to Aspyr Support.

Does the main menu work if you haven't modded the files to include the Mods button?

Your symptoms don't sound like anything we've seen, and if you've changed your game files, Support won't be able to help you.

i tried to take the mod button out by deleting the two hyphens i put in the text edit mainmenu.lua to take the mods out but it stayed the same frozen.
I'm bidding on the pc version on ebay, i want to do world builder anyways and try to make mods

oh it also says Invalid Version number at the bottom of the main menu thats frozen in the game
how do you make it valid again?
this game is annoying it has so many problems
also after five minutes of playing near the later part of the game this red and white checkerboard appears over the land and it doesn't go away. (this started before i did the mod) Does anyone else have this problem? i just wanna get rid of this game and get a pc version i've never had so many problems with a game before

It sounds to me that your install is messed up. You may want to uninstall it and redownload.

Red and white checkers is a fairly common issue when playing on large maps in the late game. It happens on both PC and Mac.

Is that true in DirectX 11 on a PC? I thought the Windows graphics problems were mainly limited to the older DirectX 10, and they came across to the Mac because OpenGL can only (approximately) emulate DX 10. Or is this mythology?

There's a support FAQ on the Steam site that talks you through the process of validating your Steam applications and repairing them. It does sound as if this is the next step for you if you want to pursue the Mac option.

I'm fairly certain it also occurs in the DirectX 10/11 version of Civ 5 as well as the DirectX 9. I don't play larger than standard maps at home using the DirectX 10/11 version, so I haven't seen it too often. It may be worse in the DX9 version, which is what the Mac version is based on.

Yes, yes it is

Manual download into ~/Documents/Aspyr/Sid Meier's Civilization 5/MODS/ and comment in Mainmenu.lua just work fine for me. But what about activating online browsing (I'd like to play Kruelgor rise of Rome) ?

Online browsing is simply not an option as far as I know. I suggest you contact Kruelgor, and ask if he is prepared to provide a zip file for Mac users.

:confused::confused::confused::confused::confused::confused::confused:I, too, have tried to follow your instructions for steam users in regard to adding the hyphens. i used the "Go" and "Go To Folder..." things and copy/pasted the correct path but it says "The folder “MainMenu.lua” can’t be opened because you don’t have permission to see its contents." How do i get permission? i don't want to be a pest but i bought the game mostly because of all the cool mods i saw. if u could help AlanH it would b a really big help.

OH! never mind i fixed it with text wrangler. thanks anyway. i still don't understand one thing though. a while back before i knew i couldn't use it, i installed the YnAEMP and put it in my MODS folder. now its still there but i can't access it from the desktop or in the mods menu or anywhere. i downloaded it on this website so is there something i need to do to it. i don't really know what "unzipping" it is but i've heard it a lot. if you could help AlanH i'd be glad.

Just wanted to note that .civ5mod files are actually .7z compressed archives. I don't think OS X's built-in decompression tool will handle it, but there are some good options, this way to can bypass the step of having to expand mods in a Windows version of Civilisation V.

Just install a compression tool that handles .7z for Mac (I use BetterZip), then change the file extension of the mod to .7z, and double-click.

The only difference in this method versus Civilisation V doing it is that you'll be left with underscores in the folder name instead of spaces, but you can remove these manually if desired, though I don't think it matters.
