So what "Niches" to Civs are yet to be explored?

Since Poland has the "Tile stealing" mechanic I was thinking of what wild ideas we could come up with.

What about a civ with:

  • An "immortal"(can be rebuilt) great general that will always be relevant for what era your in and it gains bonuses for each great general you aquire/use.
  • A civ that doesnt need river to get max amount of population.
  • A civ with combined districts or super districts where you can build all buildings together. Like Barracks/Aerodrome or Campus/Holy Site hybrids.
  • A civ that can pillage their own tiles(scorched earth tactic) for major defense boosts or being able to pillage the tile under a enemy unit and then fortify themselves.
  • "We love the king quests" and "Golden ages" as mechanics for a specific civ.
  • Whenever you counqouer a city you gain a great work of writing entiling your victory over that city.
  • A civ with Traders that cant be pillaged
  • A Civ that always know where barbarians spawn even in the fog of war.
  • A Civ that doesnt care about terrain advantages or always gets the maximum bonus from terrain.
  • A civ that can at all times move around great works(for theming bonuses) and that you can put any great work or artifact in any culture building/wonder regardless if the slot was intended for it.

Well there isn't unique commercial district (maybe Ottomons?) or unique science district (maybe Maya?, though America would of fit with the land grant university system). If they do Polynesia or a Polynesian civ like Hawai'i it could be that coasts act like fresh water. I still say a great ability for the Netherlands would be to be able to build districts in shallow water surrounding the city center.

The current city-state of Lisbon has a similar suzereignty bonus-- perhaps Portugal as a fully developed civ could carry this torch?

A Civ that always know where barbarians spawn even in the fog of war.

This would be perfect for a First Nation civ-- Civ5's Shoshone Pathfinder could easily be supped up for this, since Russia already acquired the extra tile city boots that Shoshone had in the previous game. The Iroquois also come to mind, given their historic scouting roles during the early colonial years in th US.

A Civ that doesnt care about terrain advantages or always gets the maximum bonus from terrain.

Again, harkening back to Civ5, the Inca made excellent use of its hill tile bonuses, ignoring movement costs and supping up food with terraced farms. The Inca have to be coming back at some point, and this would be a great unique attribute, in some form.

The Mongols could also use some terrain movement perks too. The speed of their conquests necessitates it.

Persia could get an ability similar to what it had in Civ V, namely Golden Ages.

Creating great works upon conquering a city for the first time would be great for Assyria.

The civ that can move around Great Works for theming bonuses and can put any great work or artifact in any cultural building/wonder regardless of slot could work for civs such as Canada or Australia, though more likely as a leader unique ability.

There can be a civ with a unique National Park with its replacement called "Wildlife Sanctuary." It's like a National Park, except that it generates additional tourism if there's unimproved crab, fish, furs, ivory, pearl, or whale within the Wildlife Sanctuary. That would be a great alternate unique improvement for the Zulu, Canada, or Australia.

I think it would be cool if the Inca could build certain districts in Mountain tiles. They would also need to have Great People who could traverse Mountains.
