As stated in the title...I've run across a potential emigration opportunity and I'm interested in any and all opinions.

Why such a hurry to get out ?

All I know about Belize is that there are some interesting Mayan ruins there.

Oh, and it's located in Central America, in the western hemisphere, on planet Earth.

I hope that was informative to the OP.

Also, how could I forget, Breaking Bad! Probably the main reason people have heard of the country.

I'm not really in a hurry...it's just an opportunity with interesting potential and it isn't like I'm terribly invested in America...particularly Donald Trump's America.

I actually knew most of that, though I can't vouch that the ruins are interesting from any first hand knowledge...yet.

Would the ol ball and chain come with or is this Tim's delayed midlife crisis where he lives it up in a tropical paradise? :p

Judging from the CIA factbook, nothing stands out to condemn Belize as a place to live and pursue opportunity, aside from 2 issues - Belize is a human trafficking source, destination and nation of transit, and that Guatamela insists on claiming half of Belize's territory as its own. However, the human trafficking thing shouldn't be a problem because I assume you'll never be desperate enough to take up shady people on their offer of a good job and easy money. As for the Guatemala situation, I'm pretty sure neither nation is wlling to go to war for this and risk the wrath of the US but I can't be certain if the claims will ever spark a conflict or not.

It was the number 1 destination of old american slavers who left the country after the civil war

My uncle actually owns some land down there.

At some point Guatamala recognized the current borders. There's always the possibility they could reverse that though in some sort of fit of nationalism.

I'm not really human trafficking material.
