Soldier-Veteran like in original Colonization

Problem with Regular units, which you can buy (if you can buy them or teach them) they are in Player's colors, the player's color seems to be white/grey and so the Regulars are white/grey, maybe if you change players color to blue, the regulars, Regular Dragoons AND Artillery gets Blue color too...

Right now, I'm working on Implementatio of the 23rd foot RedCoat, and assign them for the King of england as his own unique unit, so the Regulars can be used for colonies, but Have problems with implementation :(

Shadow_AUT - First- i don't understood what you mean about "Line infantry" status - this is professional or unit? And it's not final question...
You are ready realize yet you idea, but what is the main goal? Realization way directly depends on the answer.

For example
1)If you want change game balance and get units with properties equal to Regular army properties - is enough get possibility to use Regulars in colony service. How make - see below.
Remain just one question - how technically make possibility to teach veteran soldiers to regular status. I mean this thing is possible but i don't like this idea, because it seems like additional step in the game, but nothing new for gameplay . I by myself wont return "Continental army" ability just after "Independance" event - btw it's historically and logical accurate (Any ruler don't get real military power to his governors )

My final goal was to implement the continental army into the game, even if its not historical accurate that you can teach them before the declaretion of Independence, because I am XML modder only, I have no experience in programming the dll files ...

What I would like to have?

Simple:

1.
English player, who Declare Indepenendence should get its american flag of that time (not use the St. George's Cross anymore)
2.
English player, who declare Independence should get its Continental Army (which can be converted Veteran Soldiers maybe)
3. Ships of the Line should be corrected (not buyable and not buildable)
4. King of England should use Man O Wars and Ships of the Line for his actions in correct Ratio 4:1 maybe (4 Ships of the line, 1 Man O War)
That would be more historical correct
but I can't do this, because this need programing, and that's what I can't :(

So I am chaning what I can, maybe it's not historical accurate to have continental army before the Independence war, but I want to have them, so I will :)

Brilliant guys. Wish I could be of any assistance. But when it comes to modding i have absolutely no clue. Fiddling with attack strength of my soldiers vs natives was not hard.

Well i will be monitoring this thread.

I get it :) . Then remain change players color (better - exchange between France and English ) and implement regulars how continentals.

Or (if you need some different properties between Continental and Regulars) copy Regular properties in new classes (for unit and profession) - something like "Soldier professional" and "Continental Army Soldier"/"Continental Army Dragoon" .

I want make tomorrow new skins for "Continental Army Soldier"/"Continental Army Dragoon" by using of General uniform details. Seems, that will be better way.

Gomer_Pyle - Step by step we can bring this game to normal state ;).
Biggest problem now (imho) is integration absence between modders - many excellent ideas but any mode not completely satisfy the condition of the original Colonization.

True, the biggest problem I've seen is:
many mods have very good additions or changings, but only 1 or 2 in each mod is really good, would be great to see if some programing modders would work together to get the really good things into one mod, instead of spreading over 10 mods :D:D

btw there is a huge difference between real modding (reprogramming the core files) and light modding (only xml files) ^^

What I have seen in different mods so far, which would be good for "back to the roots", which needs programming:

Flag change after declararation of Independence (Implemented in AOD II I think)
Custom House (Custom house mod)
[not really back to the roots, but would be good, max Taxrate and Kings Tribute changing possibilty via xml file (seen in NBMod)]
Colonist with only yellow or red moving dot still be usable within colony (seen in phoenix mod)

What still should be reprogrammed:
Criminals should be teachable to get Servant status
Servants should be teachable to get free colonist status
Veteran Soldiers upgrade after declaration of Independence
Fountain of youth (now it is possible to add this goody with XML only, but you get the units not randomly and you get them where the goody was)

That would be all I think, if these things could be implemented all together into ONE mod, it would be fine, but modders are acting alone right now.

What I suggest:
modders who can program the Gamecoredll.dll files should get the programable things together into one mod (no xml modding) so a real Colonization 1 BASE would exist. Than anybody could use the mod as a basis for his xml file editing :)

I'm finished first step with Veteran_Musketman graphic by using skin elements from Veteran_Soldier . Coat color now is darkest, rifle slings lightest and buttons are clearest. Remain to fix cuffs color (now it's default civ color). I like result and ready upload if anybody want use it.
By next step to be continued in "Continental" side.

Yeah that sounds like what should be done Shadow. Me and all my friends grew up with colonization being our nr.1 game. And all my friends including me thinks this game needs to get the good stuff from col1. Basically I am the only one of my friends giving this game a chance. So things needs to be done.

But once all these things have been created then i am pretty sure some game coder would have no problems putting these things together as a baseline for future modding.

Subscribe by every word. Not whether to allocate your position in a separate thread ?

I would have added trade routes and a few comments about the incomplete implementation of customs in mode, but it is better to discuss in each thing separately

Hi, I just made a small combat mod for myself so I can tell you something about this:

<iTeacherWeight>2</iTeacherWeight>

the Numbers are:

2 = University
3 = College/HighSchool (don't know the name in english version, I have german)
4 = school

The higher the number, the lower school you need.. for example:

Has the level of the school (school/college/university) really effect to which kind of experts you can train ? I have trained several elder statesmen in the "basic" schools and assumed that level of the school would not matter. Actually I have wondered what is the purpose of the higher lever schools ?

Ups... Don't get ... What exactly is the whig? a supporter of the American Revolution?

Yes it matters, if you REALLY can teach elder statesman at school, you have a modified unit.xml, where the statesman have higher teacherweight :)

After a series of experiments that's what happened:

The first and second - militia and soldier from the game. Third - my version of the soldier. Fourth - an attempt to make a Continental with yellow lapels. Fifth - the final version of Continental. On the last two - wigs (though this is only noticeable in profile) For comparison - Royal soldier.
Below the beginning of dragoon. Color of the colonial dragoons coats was green, and I really wanted to make a model of normal Continental - dragoon model, adding white belts and white pants. The latest is the "blue" version of Continental.

woohow, thats really beautyfull Oleg, The Units really very nice :)

Btw. How do you change the textures ? I mean are there tools to extract the textures of the soldiers so a grafic program can open it or so ?

Shadow_AUT

OMG. Very nice Oleg. And u also got the wigs. lololol. Brilliant buddy. I am so looking forward to getting this in my game. And with your speed guys i am guessing pretty soon. hehe

I salute you!
