Some patch stuff from in-game

There is a great person overview behind the left button (the one where you can see your research or other brief overviews, is this new or have I missed it in a previous patch.

I "accidentally" took the GL->Philosophy slingshot in my second game. ("Accidentally" because I didn't realize it would be such a big deal, or that I'd manage to finish it.) I didn't even get a sniff of a Wonder in my first game, though - the AI was completing them like two turns after I'd started them. It (completing wonders) seems very chancy (small sample size.)

My current game is a "win" (large, slow Deity game), it was all about the wonder snowball. Got lucky in that I freed a worker for one of the big AI civs, probably kept me from being rushed early.

Once again, I foresee re-rolling the starting pos for Marble in my future.

Same experience as others with culture using a non-culture civ, can't get close enough to finishing the Liberty tree to make using the finisher GP relevant for Theocracy or Education (Hagia Sophia and Porcelain Tower), nor can I exploit REX'ing to take advantage of the reduced city expansion culture penalty. (At least not before I've already either acquired or missed the Porcelain Tower.)

Not sure I approve, too much chance involved - I can play exactly the same and get crushed one game, then rock and roll in the next.

IIRC, mint already gives 2 extra gold, so no difference with the bazaar. I don't even know if you can settle a GP on an oasis, but my bet is you can't. Gold hexes (or even better, riverside gold hexes) are the hexes that give more gold, buildings and improvements aside.

Try it nonetheless (first if you can settle an oasis, if not try an oil resource) and tell us the result, please.

EDIT: sorry if it doesn't make sense, I'm answering a previous post from Brichals.

Played my first post-patch match and got interesting results. I usually win on Immortal, but because of the warning about the patch, I downed it a notch to Emperor.

Map: /Small/Pangea.
Civ: France

1. No one appears to be interested in building wonders. I got GL at turn 38 quite easily. Many of the early wonders such as Stonehenge, GW, Great Lighthouse, Colossus were up for grabs even at turn 70+. I was 1 in literacy starting turn 50, which is again quite odd. I got all the wonders that I wanted and some that I built just because its there.

2. By turn 150, I am two warfare technologies ahead of all the AIs (me with Rifleman vs Swordsman from the best AI). So, no, the AI is not smarter. Not even close. This is in spite of the fact that I had neither iron nor horses anywhere close. Although, I must add that I did find eldorado.

3. I did not plan on a domination game. It turned out to be a wise choice. Happiness is a real issue here. Puppeting a state kills the happiness by almost 10+. My strategy on happiness was to hover around 0, but that does not appear to be a wise choice anymore. Selling luxuries (single copy) does not appear to be a good idea.

4. There were bugs
1. Completed Deals: RA prices indicate the current costs as opposed to the costs at which they were signed (For example, if the current RAs cost 250, while a completed one was signed at 200, it still shows as 250).
2. Arabia building knights: In my game, I found Arabia building both knights as well as camel archers. I thought that was odd. Is there some unique ability that I missed?

I guess the Arabia knights were gifted by a city state, at least I hope so.

That would be inconsistent wouldn't it? For example, if I puppet Karakoram, I don't get to build Keshiks?

Well if you are allied with a militaristic city state they will give you units every so often and they seem to be quite random. I am pretty sure you can get knights if you are Arabia. I've seen it also. I don't think they can give you the unique units from other civs but I wouldn't count it out.

No, he means that if you have Militaristic CS allies they will gift you units, but will never gift you your UU. I can get a Crossbowman as China this way, or Arabia could get plain knights instead of Camel Archers.

BTW Honor finisher: You get 1 gold per Unit strength you kill (like Aztecs). I kinda like it since it follows you all game long.

Playing as Siam i noticed a bug...

I was friends with a cultural CS, and when our relationship went back to neutral, i was "gaining" (green +) -2 culture per turn from them. Pretty sure a +-2 modifier is a bug.

It's good that there is now an upgrade path from the Ironside to the Battleship, but it's rather ruined by the nerf of the Battleship's range to 2... now it's no more than an upgraded Destroyer. A pity, but at least it's cheaper now!

Battleships always had a range of 2.
And ofcourse the Destroyer had a slight nerf of sight, which indirectly favors the battleship.

No you can't settle a merchant on an oasis, I tried :) I guess you can on oil but I don't know if you get the base 2 gold (from Bazaar) added. Something that Ii will have to work out.

Thanks for trying. I guessed you couldn't settle a GP on an oasis because you can't build any kind of regular improvement on them with a worker. Now I'm waiting for the results on oil! :p

Some dev must be a fan of literature :) (Arabian Nights, get it?)

Sydney Opera House still gives a free policy, in addition to it being earlier in the tech tree and giving +50% culture in the city where it's build.

And a base +4 :c5culture: instead of 1

SOH got one of the best buffs of any wonder, if nothing else because now it's actually relevant in any game, whether cultural or not. +50% cpt is enormous now with all the other cultural % nerfs.

Battleships have been range 3 since the first or 2nd patch. Being able to upgrade ironclads is huge, and the restricted destroyer sight (+ no carry-over for caravel's sight bonus) is a significant nerf to them. Even with a reduced range this is overall a much bigger boost to the relative power of a battleship IMHO. Just get your ironclads upgraded to logistics and you'll be able to move after attacking, anyway.

Edit: Battleships are still 3 range btw.

Just found out you can settle a merchant on oil for a base 1 hammer and 7 gold with bazaar (thats a desert oil). Pretty nice tile with 93% modifier from buildings up to stock exchange but I might stick with the well, I saved it before I settled.
