Sound causing graphics problems? How so?

I spoke to a guy in tech support on the phone last weekend who was less than helpful. He told me that my crashes and graphics glitches are due to my old Soundblaster Live! sound card. I told him that I play F.E.A.R., WoW, Call of Duty 2, Black and White 2, GTA:San Andreas on my system with no problems, He replied with "so, those games are different". Great customer service there. Anyway, I sent an email to the support address in the back of the manual with this screenshot asking for a reply stating how my sound card would cause this problem, and I have yet to get a reply.

Any ideas?

It will help a lot if you post all of your system specs and details about the game that you are playing. You may be right about the sound card not being an issue but you're not going to get much valid advice if folks don't know your system configuration, OS, etc.

Yea I really don't think the soundcard can do that. I mean you can disable the sound in Device Manager and try again, I'm sure you'll get the same issue. If you have an NVidia graphics card, there is a thread here that a lot of people have been having success with.

Somehow I don't think a sound card can cause problems like that.

I have got a very old Soundblaster live 1024 running on windows drivers and CIV4 works fine for me.

gunnergoz has got a point though, if you post your system specs here people who have got a computer like yours (and who have got the game running) would be able to help you.

Thanks for the replies guys. Here's the specs:

AMD 64 3000
1gig DDR Ram
Soundblaster Live!
Geforce FX5700LE
80 gig HD with 14gigs free

The screens I posted are after I disabled all sound to see if the guy was right. Apparently he wasn't. I had worse crashing and graphics problems before I updated the Nvidia drivers to 81.95.

Lets go with the tech guys answer for a minute.

Turning off sound might not help.

SO try emulating the sound instead.

Download vdmsound 2.0.4

the standard version not the alpha.

once u have it installed right click on civ iv shortcut and select run with vdmsound.

http://sourceforge.net/projects/vdmsound

Actually I have the opposite problem. When I installed a new graphics card, Asus N6200, my sound vanished a while into each Civ4 game. I've tried updating my drivers, but no luck so far.

Support has not answered my mail so far...

Now I'm going to try to downgrade my drivers to see what happens.

Tsk, tsk, tsk, you'[re still using an SB Live with all of that? Maybe it isn't the cause of your problems, but it seems like such a crime... ;)

Theres nothing wrong with a Soundblaster live card, I've got a Soundblaster live 1024 card in my computer.

I've been using this card for about 6 years in all the computers i've had.
