SP6 - Deity Training

You turkey. :p

You talking to me? :lol:

Yeah, hopefully we can get this around to you by the weekend Renata. I can play anytime, so no holdups here.
BTW, I sent Stormrider a PM telling him he's up because I seriously doubt he was expecting that. Hopefully he will be able to play on short notice. :)

@Borealis:
What happened? Did it suffer a head crash, or just won't read, corrupted??
I am curious, because I have seen hard drives that wouldn't 'spool' up and putting them in the freezer for a few hours (no I'm not kidding) brought them around.
Well......brought them around long enough to get a lot of data off of them before they :vomit: again, and they are usually gone for good then. No second chances.

Put them in the freezer huh Matt? :lol:

Yeah I'd be able to play most times pretty quick too. And yeah, good idea on sending a pm to Stormrider. If he can't play immediately though, that's fine....24 hours + 48 hours is the rule, and people shouldn't feel pressured to try to fit it in quicker than that if they really can't.

-Sirp.

I actually read this thread before checking my PMs. I got it. Will not be able to play tonight, but Mrs Stormrider has a 'Pampered Chef' party to attend tomorrow night and that means I will have uninterupted Civ time. I will post by 10 PM EST on May 2, maybe an hour or two sooner.

Preturn: Scope out the lay of the land. Move one of the 4 muskets in Dallas to Denizli, which only had a Cav. Rush mktplc in Houston. All looks good.

(IT)
* Japan / Ottomans MA vs. France. Japan now at war with Joannie.
* Bismark offers a paltry 20gpt for Silks AND Ivory (not a chance you Teutonic twit)
* Japan / Iroqois MA vs. Germany. Japan now at war with Germany. I see japanese troops flashing by on their way westward
* NY musket -> Musket
* Boston worker -> Worker
* Philly musket -> Palace
* Atl Bank -> Cav (I want a few more in my back pocket)
* Chi musket -> Cathedral
* Miami bank -> Cathedral
* Houston mktpl -> Bank. Put Mr Entertainment to work in the fields
* Buffalo bank -> Cathedral

1) 610AD
* Worker movements.
* Deploy new muskets
* Everyone has Free Artisrty and Nationalism. Free Artistry will cost me a WM. Nationalism is at least 3300 and WM. Can get both from Joan for 3400ish + WM. Will wait a turn or two to see what turns up....

(IT)
* Wash musket -> Harbor
* Boston worker -> Worker
* Detroit musket -> Cathedral

2) 620 AD
* Worker movements.
* No new techs.

(IT)
* Boston worker -> Worker
* St Loius musket -> Cathedral

* Iroqois building Universal Suffrage (Doh)

3) 630 AD
* I smell trading opportunity. Everyone has Free Artistry and Nationalism.
Ottomans Electricity
Iroqois Industrialization / Electricity
Babs Industrialization
Japan Industrialization / Electricity

As our gpt is worthless to the Ai for now, I will need to use cash money. I am not very experienced at tech trading, so hopefully I will not weed. Here goes...
* Electricity from Iroqois for 3076 + WM
* Ind from Babs for Elect + 375 + WM
* F/A + Nationalism + WM + 4g from Bismark for Elect + Ind. Bismark wanted the same for nationalism without F/A (freebie I guess). Joan wanted 800g in addition to the tech trades.

* Turns out Joannie has communism and won't trade at all. Otherwise we are caught up in tech. 4 techs (albeit one a useless one - F/A) for $3447.

* Change all Cathedral building cities + Wash + NY to factories
* Upgraded about 15 or so muskets to rifles

(IT)
* We lost our wines. Renegotiated (Bismark) from 29 gpt to 37 gpt
* Bab war vs Japan (France MA)
* Palace expansion

4) 640 AD
* Workers...
* Jap // Iroqois have communism

(IT)
* France and Ottomans sign peace
* NY factory -> Coal plant
* Boston worker -> worker
* philly factory -> coal plant
* Cinnci bank -> factory

8) 680 AD
* No new AI techs
* railroading the bajeebers out of our territory

(IT)

9) 690 AD
* I've been owrking on the railroad (and some mines and a jungle clearing here or there)

(IT)
* Ottomans peace deal expires - I renew it. They have sanitation...

10 700 AD
* Workers
* leave tech trading for Sirp

Summary
* I have been merging Boston's new worker into a city each turn to get our core cities to size 12
* Techs: all have Sanitation. Everyone except Babs and Otts have Communism. Joannie has cheapest price for both...
* A fairly peaceful turn overall.

Stormrider: Good on the tech trading, except once you got the techs you should have tried to sell them off to civs that didn't have them to get some of our cash back. I didn't notice you trying to do this. Great turn other than that.

I see that Japan has now hooked up that second source of coal we wanted :)

(IT) 700AD: We really don't want communism that much, and it's expensive at the moment. Since Sanitation is real cheap (850 gold - less than 2 turns income from France!) I buy it straight.

I nix coal plants in all except New York and Washington in favor of Hospitals. We are planning on getting Hoovers, and New York is going to get ToE, Washington, Hoovers. Boston is switched to courthouse to try to get it to worker-a-turn.

IBT Livy considers us the third most powerful nation in the world!

(1) 710AD: After Osman cancels a lux deal, I sell silks + ivory to Japan for 47gpt. The same deal to France for 28gpt.

(2) 720AD: New York coal plant -> hospital. We want to get lots of hospitals online so we can get Battlefield Medicine available as a good prebuild. Boston courthouse -> worker. Philadelphia hospital -> cathedral. Chicago factory -> hospital. Miami factory -> hospital.

Boston rearranged to get us a worker a turn.

France has Replaceable Parts, but won't sell it to us.

(3) 730AD: ...

IBT everyone piles upon Japan. They come and tell us they want to extend our treaty. We want to remain peaceful for now, so I accept.

Hmm...seems our reputation isn't "totally" gone: the Iroquois will give us 400 gold up front for Ivory.

Washington coal plant -> hospital.

San Francisco marketplace -> factory.

(4) 740AD:

Hmm...all the other civs have fallen out of democracy into republic, monarchy, or communism. May be time for us to start building libraries and universities and start researching ourselves.

(5) 750AD: New York hospital -> palace (prebuild).

St Louis factory -> hospital.

Denver marketplace -> factory.

The Corporation has now been discovered. We buy RP off France for 3400, and then that + 200 gets corporation off Osman. Then the two of them gets communism off Bismark. Philadelphia switched from cathedral to stock exchange. We have one source of rubber, right by New York.

We flog communism to Osman for 200 gold + 3gpt + fur.

(6) 760AD: A heap of cities go into We Love the President Day.

(7) 770AD: Washington hospital -> stock exchange. Philadelphia stock exchange -> library. Chicago hospital -> stock exchange. Miami hospital -> stock exchange. Buffalo factory -> hospital. Detroit factory -> hospital. New Orleans factory -> bank.

Battlefield Medicine is now available and is perfect to bleed shields off onto if necessary.

France now has Scientific Method. We can afford it, but we'll wait instead.

(8) 780AD: Dallas courthouse -> factory.

Y'know I've just realized that if we go for it we can get Universal Suffrage. Washington is switched to it.

Umm...I muffed up Boston :( I hate the govenors!

(9) 790AD: Philadelphia library -> university. Mugla harbor -> aqueduct

(10) 800AD: Salonika courthouse -> factory. Cincinatti factory -> hospital. Gee the Germans have gotten themselves pummelled by the Iroquois.

The French still have a monopoly on Scientific Method. We will buy it off them if necessary. Once we have enough shields, if it hasn't been sold around, we should probably buy at monopoly. Expensive, but we can afford it. We likely want to get Atomic Theory and Electronics as the free techs. We may want to trade Atomic Theory around, but keep a monopoly on Electronics until we can secure Hoover Dam. Don't build Battlefield Medicine anytime soon, as it's great for bleeding shields off onto when prebuilding.

Once we get stock exchanges and Wall Street going we should be able to get to 1000gpt.

Oh and oops, I really messed Boston up :blush: ...it needs to be looked at immediately (just noticed how badly it's mismanaged after uploading the save)

We may want to make Boston a "normal" city soon, shoot it to size 12, and get a hospital and factory there.

Good luck Matt_g!

-Sirp.

The Game

First I need to get this off my chest.

:ar15: The server is too busy at the moment. Please try again later. :rocket:

That is getting really old. :wallbash:
Ok, I feel better now. ;)

Got it. Will have it back for you by midnight EDT Renata, at the very latest. Hopefully a lot sooner than that. Depends on how long my honey-do list is today. :lol:

Preturn: Nothing changed. In looking at the game I agree with Sirp. I think the time for self research is fast approaching. I am going to make setting us up for that a high priority this turn. Libraries and Uni’s are going to be the order of the day. This will also have the added benefit of our culture not being so abysmal. Should help with resistors when we go to take these turkeys out. :hammer:
Of course the top priority will be ToE and Hoovers. ;)

IT: nada

810 AD (1) Atlanta, Factory>Stock Exchange. I was going to set it to a hospital, but it doesn’t have any tiles to work. To much overlap.
St. Louis, Hospital> Stock Exchange.
Memphis, courthouse>aqueduct.

IT: We get our first pollution outside of NY.

820 AD (2) Chicago, factory>library. I was going to set it to Battlefield Med. but we won’t have the requisite number of Stock Exchanges in time. After the Library I will set it to a Wall Street prebuild. :)
Boston is back to a worker a turn, for a little while anyways.

IT: Japan and Iroquois sign a peace treaty.

830 AD (3) Miami, Stock Exchange>Library. This city needs a Police Station bad to help with the corruption.
Detroit, Hospital>Stock Exchange
Denzili, courthouse (I rushed it last turn)>aqueduct.
Damn governor in Boston insists on switching my config around. I still have to MM every damn turn to keep it at a worker a turn. :mad:
Joanie still has a monopoly on Sci Meth. I will have to buy it next turn, one way or the other. NY has over 500 shields right now.

IT: Wines deal with Bismarck runs out. Price went up to 54 gpt. We need them though so it’s done.

840 AD (4) Time to buy Sci Meth. I dial up everyone. Joanie still has a monopoly. Oh well. In fact she has a monopoly on Espionage as well. She also has 10,000 gold in the bank, and now we are forced to add to it. I’ll get some of that back next turn with AT.
Sci Meth from France for 5140. I change our shut off research to Atomic Theory before I forget. ;)
Try to sell Sci Meth around. Gee, Hammi will give us his WM and 3 gold. That’s all he has. I don’t think so bud. Same with Toku only it’s 14 gold and WM.
Ditto Bismarck and Osman. Nobody has any gpt to give. It must all be going to Joanie.
Hiawa is the only person who can pay anything for it. He can give 70gpt. That’s all he has. It’s worth more than 1400 gold. If he had a lux or something it would be easier to swallow. I seriously consider hanging on to it to see if anyone has any gpt deals run out and then I realize that it will worth a lot less next turn when we complete ToE so I sell it to Hiawa for the 70 gpt. :smoke: I don’t know. <shrug>
Swap NY from palace to ToE. Due next turn.
Philly, Uni>Infantry
Chicago, Library> Battlefield Med. (Wall Street prebuild)
Buffalo, Hospital>Library
I rushed the Aqueduct in Mugla for 280 gold, and in Memphis for 292.

Continued next post due to image count.

850 AD (5) ToE completes in NY. [dance] [party] [dance]
I take AT and Electronics. NY is building Hoover.
Seattle, factory>worker. Will peel one off since it has a full box. Then build a hospital.
Miami, library>Uni
Mugla, aqueduct>market
New Orleans, Bank>Library
Memphis, aqueduct>market

860 AD (6) Cincy, Hospital>Stock Exchange
Seattle, worker>Hospital
Damn, forgot to broker last turn. :smoke:
I do so now. AT to Joanie for Espionage, WM and 6372 gold.
That’s it. No one has anything and they don’t have any gpt. They were fleeced before I started my turn it seems.

IT: nada

870 AD (7) St. Louis, Stock Exchange>Library

IT: Babylon and France sign MA against Japan.

880 AD (8) Buffalo, Library>Police Station. It needs a Stock Ex. also. You may want to switch it.
Salonika, Factory (rushed)>market. I think that’s the first time I have ever seen a factory completed before the city got a market. :lol: It’s running a clown BTW.
New Orleans, Library>Stock Exchange.
OK, US will finish next turn in Washington. I investigate Niagara Falls which is building US. Damn it will be done in 3. I wanted to swap NY and Washington around, but I can’t do it or we will lose US. Hiawa doesn’t have AT yet much less electronics so there won't be a cascade. He still can’t give anything resembling fair price for tech either.

IT: Hiawatha comes calling wanting a MPP and ROP. Uhhh…we will go to war at a time of our choosing, thank you very much. I trade WM’s with him. Palace Expansion

890 AD (9) Washington, Universal Sufferage>Stock Exchange. [party]
Atlanta, Stock Ex.>Library
Miami, Uni>Police Station
St. Louis, Library>Uni
Detroit, Stock Ex.>Library
Mugla, market>Hospital
Swapped Chicago to Wall Street.
I am taking Boston off of worker duty. Set to a factory.

IT: Germany and Japan sign a peace treaty.

900 AD (10) Chicago, Wall Street>Uni
Houston, Factory>Hospital
Baltimore, Factory>Library
Memphis, market>Library

Notes:
Our workers are fortified in the open due north of Boston.
Hoover is due in 6.
We have over 13,000 gold and we are making 990 gpt. 163 of that is from other civs.
After a few more libraries and universities finish we will be in good shape to research for ourselves. It’s close to that now. We could research Refining right now in 11 at 90% and still make +47 gpt. I was checking this often and it is getting better every turn.
I spent a lot of money on my turns and still made a butt load of cash.
That’s all I can think of now.

Have fun Renata!
Matt

Here's a pic.

Here's the game.

Great turn Matt!Our economy is now steaming along. We have a ridiculously high income and built up treasury.

Building libraries and universities now isn't really going to help our culture much, since culture builds up over time, but it will get us ready to research. It's surprising that France is the civ leading research - look at the size of their territory, it's tiny! It's possible we'll be able to remain friendly with France for the remainder of the game, taking out everyone else.

Whether we want to fight a war with tanks or not is uncertain. It may be better to simply build a large stock of tanks, race to modern armor before anyone gets computer and mech infantry, and then do a mass-upgrade and roll over them. We'll see though.

We want to get the Intelligence Agency soon. Planting a spy in France would be great, as it'd allow us to steal technologies off them, which is a very economical way of acquiring technologies. Spies elsewhere, especially in Istanbul and Kyoto, would be great, as they'd allow us to see the size of their militaries before mounting an attack.

If any of our spying fails and someone decides to declare on us, that'll be no problem: they'll run into our infantry wall and we'll be able to sue for peace before war weariness kicks in. If the French declare we may even be able to snare Urfa and Dijon.

EDIT: Oh also, one wonder we're definitely going to want is the Internet. It will trigger our golden age, boost our science rate, AND get us free culture in every city we capture! Perfect to trigger Domination.

Anyhow, we're doing great. Good luck Renata!

Wow, we are doing so well I had forgotten we haven't had a GA yet!! :lol:
Of course we could trigger a GA by capturing the Colossus, Great Lighthouse, Cop's or Magellan's, ......wait, you still have to build another wonder before the game will 'parse' the list and trigger the GA. Never mind.

No time to comment, but .. coolness everybody. I got it. Have to finish my exam still since I went to a funeral yesterday :( , but can play tomorrow night.

Renata

Are you sure it's a good idea to wait for MA Sirp ? After all, there are two scientific civs left in the game so there's a 50% chance that Computers will appear when they enter the modern age. Or do you think that you guys will be able to pull so far ahead technologically that they won't even get to the modern age ?

jack: The Germans and Ottomans are not strong, in fact the Germans might not survive at all. At any rate, if we attack with tanks they almost certainly will have infantry. With modern armor we will face some MIs, but lots of infantry.

We will consider taking out a civ or two with tanks though. Particularly the Ottomans or Japanese. We'll see how it goes.

-Sirp.

If possible, I'd like to be opportunistic with the tanks. Depending on how the current wars pan out, we might end up with a usable tech lead on one or more civs; i.e. tanks plus artillery vs. infantry for a significant period of time. We should keep the option to do heavy research as needed, but if France doesn't get too far ahead we don't actually have to pull the trigger on it - that'd retain our option to use a lot of our cash for military purposes.

Anyway, I opened the thread to say that my turns are going to be a bit delayed due to me coming into work and finding a heap of pending overtime on my desk. I'll try to play tonight anyway, but may not be able to actually finish my turns until tomorrow night. If that's a problem, let me know.

Renata

You're welcome to wait until tomorrow night to post, Renata. However you're also welcome to play less than ten turns (5+) and leave it at that if you want as well.

Although unless we enter into a war, I don't think your turns should take *that* long. There's no worker actions to be performed except for annoying pollution.

Oh and you're welcome to make Boston into a 'proper' city now btw.

-Sirp.

I wondered if anyone would be getting antsy yet. :) Just got home and am downloading to play. Many apologies for the delay.

edit: Um, the upload server appears to be down. :( If Matt or anyone else who has the save could email me with it, it would be much appreciated.

RenataK2@yahoo.com

I'll check back online in a couple of hours.

edit #2: It's working again. :)

Renata

Renata, it's no 'problem' as such, would just like to make sure the game keeps moving along, and doesn't lose momentum. I saw that you had posted in some other threads, so I was wondering... :)

-Sirp.

Ah, I post all day at work, I'm terrible that way. But I can't play there. :p

Anyway, it was a fairly routine set of turns, with a couple exceptions. I'll dispense with an exhaustive turn report this time and just give the executive summary.

I traded electronics and change to France for refining on turn 2. (Electronics price had been decreasing.) We have two oil - yay! - one south of Washington and one near Denver. Surprisingly enough, there was *not* a source near Mugla! France and Germany currently lack their own oil sources. The Iroquois' source is in a town they recently captured from Germany. The Ottomans' source is a couple tiles from our border, near Ankara. Babylon has a source near Akkad, and Japan is the only other civ with two sources - one on our border near Shimonoseki and the other down south in the tundra near Fukushima. Lots of good strategizing stuff there. :)

I spent my turn mostly building infrastruture, with infantry and artillery in cities that didn't need any more buildings. New York got Hoover on turn six; Washington built the Intelligence Agency on the last turn. (Borealis can decide if she wants to try to place any spies.) I rushed a fair number of buildings, but not an excessive amount; we have more gold than I started my turn with, I think (~17000), and we're still making about 1000 gpt.

On my last turn I checked the slider and we could now research steel in six turns at 100%. :D France has steel, by the way -- they got it on turn 9 --- and would like about 7300 gold for it straight up.

On the diplo front. I let all trades lapse with Japan and the Ottomans - we still have ongoing with everyone else. Babylon extorted saltpeter near the end; I caved in the interests of a more perfect empire. :p At some point in the turns, we lost our supply of gems without a chance to renew (had we paid straight cash or a tech for it? I never understand how that happens), so we're down to six luxes. Cities will now riot at size 15 without a cathedral and at size 17 or 18 without a collosseum as well. I built some cathedrals in most of our larger cities and a collosseum in Miami. Washington is the only city still running a taxman for that reason. A few cities are nearing that size, though, and need to be watched.

Except for France, the tech pace is still glacial, and everyone but us and France is in monarchy (Japan) or communism (everyone else). I have no idea who's fighting who anymore, as alliances changes about ten times during my turns. Everyone's reputations must be well and truly trashed by now. We have company in reprehensibility! ;)

One last thing. Mugla flipped between turns six and seven and has subsequently lost four population points. Buggers.

Enjoy, Borealis!

1000 AD

Renata
