Space-1: War While Waiting

OK Got it. I'll try to play today, but it may have to wait till tomorrow.

Nice work Space, and I agree with Greebley about the point of attack. Dunno what I can do in 5 turns though. They may be very quiet. :)

1650AD: Pre-turn.
Short rushed 3 factories with universities.
I inspect the map and decide to land our task force on the hill next to Aydin. The Current armies will rendezvuos there. I am tempted to send mainly artillery in the first shipment, and then the ground units can follow thereafter.

IBT:
Quiet

1655AD:
Our artillery heavy task force sets sail for Aydin.
Spent a pleasant 20 minutes moving workers.

IBT:
Quiet

1660AD:
Bombarded some shipping.
I made a mistake due to a distraction and left a couple of cav away from the army in Greece. I bet we lose them. To replay the turn would take half an hour. Sorry.

IBT:
We lose the two misplaced cav :smoke: Sorry.

1665AD:
Redline around a dozen boats. Excellent!
Take out a couple of infantry in Greece blocking our path to the rendezvous.
Otherwise just lots of worker turns.

IBT:
Learn Steel - Research refining, due in 6 at a small profit.
All the red-lined shipping runs away and is replaced by half as many.

1670AD:
Red-line all the new shipping. I love it.
Started to build a little more infrastructure. A few markets, libraries, and Stock exchanges mainly.
Founded a new city Curia. Just to reduce unit costs.

IBT:
Only one enemy ship turns up this round. It gets red-lined for its trouble.

1675AD:
Land our forces and realise I didn't include a settler. I would still raze Aydin. We can get more troops to Turkey in 5 turns anyway if we hurry some boats.

After Turn comments.
I made a couple of mistakes which cost us a couple of units. I apologise for that.
All our workers are beginning to accumulate in large stacks and are basically working their way North to south. I even began to clear some jungle.

The stack at Aydin contains an unloaded army and 14 arty. I would just sit on the hill and pound Aydin while you wait for the pillaging forces to meet up, by which time reinforcements should be at hand.

Working down the peninsula to grab spices and ivory seems sensible IMO. I can't remember whose idea it was (Handy? or NP?) but it was a goodun'.

Our navy is pitiful unfortunately, but our coastal cities along the crossing have factories and are building clads and Galleons fairly quickly. There are a couple of Galleons that can go next turn if you like. I didn't meet a single boat on my crossing which makes me wish I had left a couple of clads at home.

Enjoyable game, but easy to make a mistake. You really need to take your time.

Here is our landing point. I hope it is correct.

Here is the >>save<<

Madbax,
The idea on the spot was mine. After our training game with Nad having the resources near each other, I searched this map for a similar site and voila.
If you bombard the town to a small size, then we can just keep it. It is only big cities that have high flip chances. That is how I would play it if it was me.

Pre-flight checks... OK :goodjob:

Press button...
Egypt lands a stack of 4 Cav & 3 Inf West of Babylon (an almost competent invasion force)

1 - 1680AD
Bombard Egyptian Invasion Force (red-line all units)
Kill 3 Inf & 1 Cav with elite Cavs.
Scour our homelands for forgotten elites - Find an elite Rifle (Neapolis), an elite Musket (Hareid) and a hidden elite Cav (Brundisium)
Kill the last 3 Cavs with the elites but no leader
Bombard Aydin and destroy Barracks with my first salvo :)
Bombardment continues destroying Temple, Market, Police, Colosseum, 1 citizen, and red-lining several defenders
Disband Army of Caesar (Knights) in Hispalis (hurrying Bank) - well, we can't ferry it over to the other continent so I thought we might as well get some benefit
Our pillaging armies head to join the stack N Aydin
Load Settler, Artillery & Inf onto Galleons (Syracuse) but wait till next turn before sailing

IBT
Nothing much

2 - 1685AD
Red-line all enemy ships within range
Bombard Aydin - destroying Lib, Court, Bank & infilcting slight damage on defenders
Second wave sets sail from Syracuse
Artillery gathered near Rome

IBT
Nothing much

3 - 1690AD
Bombard Aydin - destroying Cathedral, University, kill 2 citizens & inflict minor damage on defenders
red-line all enemy ships within range

IBT
Discover Refining - Combustion
We get Wall Street message
Handyaugusta starts Wall Street (4 turns :))

4 - 1695AD
Bombard Aydin - Killing 2 citizens (down to pop 7)
No enemy ships in sight
Research 70% (8 turns @ +16gpt)
Nobody has Combustion (yet)

IBT
Egypt lands 4 Cav (W Babylon)
Greece lands 4 Inf, 2 Cav, 1 Archer and a Hoplite (SW Eridu)

5 - 1700AD
Bombard Greek stack - red-lining them all
Use our 5 elite Cav, 1 elite Rifle & 1 elite Musket to fish for some leaders no leaders & Musket dies
Finish off the Greeks & Egyptians with vet Cavs - no promotions :(
Bombard Aydin - killing 3 citizens (now pop 4)

Notes
There are 8 Galleons fortified in Syracuse.

I have stationed Ironclads 4 tiles apart on our sea crossing route - saves keep moving them around.
SP1-1700AD.jpg

I didn't try to attack Aydin - no point when the next player can bombard the defense into the ground - 5 more Artillery & a Settler will land next turn.

I filled Trajans column with vet Cav but have left them where they are in case they're needed to topple Aydin.

We didn't have much luck with promotions or leaders in spite of maximising our chances. We need a few more Artillery on the mainland as I couldn't bombard those last stacks down to 1hp with what we have.

Combustion is due in 7 turns @ +13gpt - I didn't see any point in running at a deficit for now.

The save is > here <

Did it!

Pre-turn
Oh, well, it all seems clean and tidy. Nothing really that I can do other than hit Enter...
I see that the roads around the Ottomans capital were not pillaged. Ok, that will also come, eventually.

IT
The Greek have decided that they don't like Bagacum and bomb it for half an hour.

Treurnia: Worker - Temple

Turn 1 - 1705 AD
I leave 10 Artillery in Eridu to defend our home soil. The other ones will sail to the other continent.

Bombarding Aydin leaves the city down to one pop, two redlined defenders and one Sipahi.
The city is conquered at the loss of one Cavalry, and production set to Temple.

Hurried Temple in Verona

The Egyptians join the party around Bagacum.

Hurried Temple in Aydin - I think I will refrain from hurrying more things...

Ravenna: Artillery - Infantry
Odense: Settler - Temple
Eridu: Settler - Temple
Viroconium: Hospital - Bank
Lutetia: Bank - Artillery
Palmyra: Infantry - Infantry

Turn 5 - 1725 AD
Bombed Ottoman units outside Aydin.

I haven't moved from there, but my idea was to go to Corinth, raze it and found a roman city 1N of there, to block the chokepoint and deal with the Ottomans without Greek troops running around.
The following step would then be marching towards Ottoman capital, pillaging around it and conquering all the other cities.
Ottos seem to be starting to have problems, as I have seen the first medieval infantries and archers...

Oh, we are two turns away from Combustion, which could be reduced to one at the cost of 126 gp.

Who's next?

Preturn: Changed a few things. Some towns that were completely corrupt, I moved away from Temples and more toward settlers. The game would be over before the temple completes. Settlers also give us more unit support.and can expand the bondaries. Madbax showed me the power of this strategy in a game I played earlier for reaching domination limit. :)

I also used some artillery that were lying around to bombard some boats.
Used the cavalry in Aydin to kill some enemy troops.

Rushed the Harbor in Aydin (to get the Lux).

IBT: Some coastal bombardment. Troops advance toward Aydin
Veii: Bank->Cav
Tarentum:Cav->Cav
Mediolanum: Worker->Worker

1730 AD:
Build Aurelianorum
Build Hippo-Regius

Bombard and Attack units near Aydin. Lose a Cav and 2 Infantry to 1 hp Infantry. Nearly lose an army vs a guerrilla. Kill many enemy units, Lower science to 20%

IBT: A goodly number of enemy troops land on our continent (Egypt- 5 inf, 3 cav, Greece: 1 inf, 3 cav)
Rome:Artillery->Cav
Niagra Falls: Courthouse->Cav
Neapolis: Artillery->Artillery
Pisae: Court->Market
Ravenna: Infantry->Infantry
Palmyra: Infantry->Infantry
Traveri: Settler->Settler

1735 AD:
Leader has arrived home. Unfortunately, there seems nothing to rush & it seems a shame to keep it and ruin our chance of another so I think it will become an army which will be sent back again. Sorry if I missed a good use for this leader.

Combustion finished and I started flight.

I upgrade some Galleons to transports (so I can transport armies) and switch some cities to destroyers. I want to remove the enemy ship threat.

Destroy landed troops move some troops near aydin. Attack and destroy troops near aydin that I can reach.
New Cav army

IBT: Greek iron clads attack our lineup. We lose 2 iron clads. More troops landed. A saphai kills our infantry

Confinium: Worker->Worker

Allegheny: Cav->Infantry
Neapolis: Destroyer->Destroyer
Artaxata: Cav->Infantry
Brundisium: Army->Army
Molde: Factory->Market
Handyaugusta: Infantry->Infantry
Jerusalum: Artillery->Artillery

1750 AD:
Bombard and Capture Ephesus I captured to slow enemy units, it can be abandoned when we get a settler there.

Notes:
A number of armies are in transit guarded the best I can. Be careful though, enemy ironclad stacks can show up.

I made some small progress on the conquering of the peninsula. I was mostly defending against large number of troops. I think the numbers are slowing down so more progress can be possible.

Our 7th resource has been bombard-disconnected. There are 2 workers nearly there. We also have no road between Arretium and Aydin which is annoying.

I started to move units near Iznik to bombard it.

We need more workers on Pollution patrol. I decided not to abort worker actions to deal with it, but feel free. Or just clean it up next turn.

Mass production in 4. It was slower than it could have been so I could upgrade to transports.

The other continent:

Well played, Greebley. :goodjob: Good thing *we* have that Oil source. ;) Enjoy your trip. :)

Handy you're UP.

edit: Guys, please remember the target is Conquest, at some point we can't afford to keep the cities and will have to raze...
