Spam

Makes one wonder if you're here to take part in discussions/arguments or just police the threads for what you deem spam. Unless you were coerced, er, HIRED by TF, well, my opinion is not needed.

Lefty once said something about spam and warnings... Some spam is let by because it is humorous, or not completely devoid of some contribution to the subject, or something like that... I agree. We ALL have spammed on occasion. Threads that get off topic and go for 2 more pages have been shut down by the 'Avatar Mod' in OT. As should be. But 'spam' is not always requiring a warning or deletion or ban.

Meh.

I am saying that opening a pickle jar is as hard as it will be to stop spam.

Look for the meaning. I was too lazy to type it.

You don't know about dietbong, I mean VietCong?

Here, the simple projection of personality is considered spam. One may get away with that if one admits a taste for boy's blood, or if you vow to shoot anyone who sets foot on your own private property, or if you entertain us in some other novel way. Also, if you throw up some earnest paragraphs from deep down then maybe those posts will overload the spam sensors. Typical posters thrusting their typical selves and nothing else into the forums are just spammers. Thus a detached and apparently serious discussion about the bag of chips a dog ate yesterday is not spam because it revolves around an object not a poster.

Communication for the sake of communication, superevie, is spam pure and simple.

Yes, very much so.

Think of it as making a police report, after seeing a crime taking place. The mods will then arrive at the scene of the crime to 'investigate', and 'act' accordingly - the difference being we're the police, judge, jury and executioner in this case. :p

Of course, like the real thing, overly disruptive reporting will only dilute the utility value of this forum tool, and make the reporting poster feel more like a nuisance than a help to the mods. ;)

I just felt this could bear some repeating. :goodjob:

Thank you floppa21. Okay, I understand all of this much better. I have actually seen some pretty nice examples of spam in this thread! Including some flaming. So, basically, spam is stuff that doesn't have a point and excludes others from joining in a conversation.

Excludes? No. Generlly it leads to people flaming the spammer, which can be interpeted as more spam. Althrough if a mod closes the thread then I suppose you could call it excluding, but thats a longshot.

I meant saying that if somone just has a little conversation with only one member in a thread, other people don't have anything to post. They are excluded because they can't feel part of the group if other people have jacked the thread for their own private useage. That's all I was saying. :)

The OY does serve community, social, getting to know each other, and entertainment function, as well dicsussion of issues. but the are group sociciality, not a conversation between few posters.

Right on! ;)

And worse when you do it in a thread with a specific topic - it's rather impolite to disrupt said thread with non-related 'chatty' posts.

not always posting a smilie should be considered as mere spam, although it looks like
