Spanish Natural Wonder Challenge (/experiment)

Just a heads-up: went ahead and replaced the KSM file with one that has Copper instead of Marble. It kinda puts everything out of whack comparison-wise but I just couldn't let that stand. Should've done it earlier to minimize the damage, but oh well.

Btw I'm a little surprised that there's been 51 downloads of the of the other save. The KSM one had 40-something iirc. Why is it that so many people are playing but so few are posting their results? It's easy enough to do the turn 100 re-cap; a screenshot and a few sentences are more than enough. Hell, even a single sentence is better than nothing. :)

Cool. Crazy cool? Carazycool! :goodjob:

:^)

going for science victory. LV.
turn 105 update:

Spoiler :
my capital is a size 17. I have built the Great Library, Haning Gardens, Hagia Sophia and I'm a few turns away from getting Borobodure. fingers crossed. I have also built the national college and grand temple.

I did not settle a second city. I just focused on growing my capital. I got ambushed by a few barbs early in the game and they pillaged all my land and stole my worker. that set me back about 20 turns. frustrating. just barely lost out on stonehenge by 1 turn.

with the prophet I earned from the Hagia Sophia I founded a religion. I considered doing the +5 faith from natural wonders but instead I went with the fertility rights pantheon. I also chose tithe and swords into plowshares to focus on growth.

Soon I will start exploring the world and settling all other natural wonders that I can find.

I played the LV one till around t150, but now that the beta is over i had to revert to the normal game, and my save doesn't launch now :(

Didn't do so well.
Spoiler :
Held Dido off pretty easily the two times she attacked, and then was prepping to attack her as i got cannons.
Not really doing overly well though, tech-wise only in 1st-3rd range.

I bet i ll do better in a start without mines or lakes as 90% of other player?

10 takkers?
I bet you would. However, that is not the subject of this thread. ;)

What would be interesting to see is which one do you find better? If you have the time, I'd appreciate if you could test both saves with the same VC (Science ideally, since I take it that is your forté). Go ahead and read the spoilers, or explore the map a bit and then restart, so that map knowledge won't affect the outcome of the second game vs. the first.

(In retrospect this was a badly designed challenge, due to this factor, the Marble/Copper thingy, etc. But hey, cut me some slack as it's the first game thread I've ever created! Anyway I think tommynt is a good enough player that his sample size of one should settle the issue satisfactorily for us. :))

EDIT: If you want to, you can play without the NWs, too. Here is a save that has a regular Mountain instead of KSM/LV. I chose to keep it as a Mountain since the NWs are Mountains even though they really shouldn't be (imo)... I can make it a flat Plains too if you'd prefer that. Ofc you can also do it yourself with the IGE mod.

My game crashed about 150 turns in and i've lost interest in reloading and continuing. I think LV is pretty damn pwoerful as spain. probably more so than KSM as the early growth quickly turns into production, whereas early production does not turn into growth

yeah my 1. opinion was WTH lake op as grow got diminishing return and early pops can be provided by huts n stuff but overall it should be better as mines as production is just not THAT much needed in sp and even wonder races are more determind on when u can start them and less on prod time

fastest and most easy way to win this d proly still be a CB pawnage with full liberty tree and some 2 turn settler

12 hammers, and eventually also 8 Faith, is a pretty good tile to work. I locked it down and just relied on coming out from 1 pop by building a Granary, improving the 3 Wheat in range and hitting pop ruins. When I hit 2 pop I hammered out a Settler, went 2 city NC. Didn't get Universities up until the hundred teens because I went and got Machinery before Education.

2 caps down by Turn 100 then it's just walk, walk, take. Both of the first caps managed to get Walls up during the siege. Sigh. Long hike that took forever from cap 3 to cap 4 through a hilly mountain pass chokepoint.

Patch kicked in so I put three into Commerce and have been buying mercenaries for use as my meatshields/city takers for dirt cheap. Occasionally Holy Warrioring out a unit. Terracotta-ed into 5 units, instant army right in the face of somebody who was moving toward my cap!

This may be part of the Patch, maybe just luck, but I got a city during a peace deal in my first war and when I went to go view it Surprise! Artist's Guild in my new puppet! I've never conquered a Guild before.

That is all well and good, but please remember to spoiler your reports. ;) Although by now many players must've read a spoiler or two, but hey, let's stick to the rules anyway.
