Yes Switzerland has some bad ass merc's. They also are maybe the most prepared for a nuclear strike. They have huge underground cities underneath their highways.
Switzerland has 3 principle languages-German, French and Italian and a 4th which is a very rare language called Romansh

Sorry about the mix-ups guys, it's been over a decade since high school. Obviously, the Swiss are not Swedish, and the languages thing was just an honest mistake. Still, those halbardiers were some bad mo-fos.

In france we have the foreign Legion. I don't know if they can be considered as a special force but there is a good thing with those guys. Nobody (perhaps including them) cares about casualties!
This is why all this people are former convicts and most of them are still wanted. So they prefer not to talk and complain a lot as their officers know the truth about each of them and thus hold their lives in their hands.

The Foreign Legion are not "all convicts", "most of whom are still wanted". That type of stereotype fits more in the very early 1900s, and has nothing to do with the professional force of today. Legionnaires come from all walks of life, and generally join for the adventure, or to leave behind problems in their former life, or for the experience and reputation.
They do thorough background checks these days, and reject drug offenders and major criminals. There is also an increasing amount of Frenchmen joining, as certain strictures have been relaxed. New identities are provided on request, but one can use ones own name.
The Legion has certainly changed from the "Beau Geste" days which M. Az may be refering to. In addition, only certain parts of the Legion can be described as strictly 'special forces'. Certainly 2 REP, but there are other REI motorized groups in the overall group.
Legio Patria Nostra.
Do not screw with the Legion.

I've read recently that the officers in the Legion are French but enlisted men cannot be. That is why there are many enlisted men in the Legion who claim to be "French Canadian".

Genghis, you are on the money!!!

I think next year they are gonna deploy those to Kosovo instead of tanks...

I saw that E-mail about 1 year ago when I was just returning from that cursed country... It is STILL floating around???

With downsizing, I'm afraid that the U.S. army will not be able to afford them, as I imagine the contracting firm that makes them will want about 1.8 million dollars per unit.

And I was looking forward to having one leg bigger than the other too!!!

Top Gun is not a special force. Rather, it is designed to help further train pilots, and it is very prestiges to go their

Sorry, Pinky, but the Marines are not "mere" anything. The Marines are the first US forces in battle, and the last ones out. They ARE the elite, best of the best, and they kick ass too

The Marines in general are not special forces. And since Viet Nam they haven't been the first ones to arrive at the battlefields either, in Granada (if
I'm not mistaken) The Rangers conducted an airfield seizure while the SEALS simultaneously established a beach head (so that the Jar-Heads could land behind them). During Operation Just Cause (the invasion of Panama, to depose Noriega in Dec 89) the SEALS landed first, followed shortly by the 75th Ranger Regiment seizing two airfields (so that the Jar-Heads could land behind them). Lastly in desert storm, the US Army did the bulk of the fighting done by the US. In short today's Marines aren't your grandfather's Marines, they're living on a reputation that their forebears earned...And they're doing a first rate job of trashing it at that.
