spies, continued

Pre-Turn:
Revolt to State Property and emancipation, MM every city for food.

Realize food is stagnant in Civ4 Anarchy, feel dumb, do over.

T1.
Shed defenders from every city, keeping a good lineup only on the west coast - we DON'T want Cretinburg or GIF to get a zulu boat in the teeth - not that Zulu boats can make it out of a pond without sinking, but you get the point. Point being the Zulus are really behind.

Send every able hand to Munich. Prep building galleons.

T2.
Try to find something useful to do. Fail miserably.

IT
Shaka wants us to cancel deals with Elizabeth. Sorry pal, she's more classy, that wins me every time.

Lose a privateer at sea

T3.
Anarchy is over. Re-do MM.

GSci goes into Happytowne, where Oxford is. Built an academy, but I'm unsuer as to whether settling would've been better. Probably settling better with the bonuses. Will think about it more next time.

[Hindsight comforting voice] Or wait. 50% of base isn't that bad, especially for science. Yeah, it's really good. Guess we traded 1 shield base for 20 beakers modded - good payoff. [/schyzophrenia]

T5.
The IBT's are taking forever because of all the AI's units. I turn off foreign unit movements and come read the boards. Athens for IW sounds ludicrous. It'll go there.

Send workers to put even more workshops around Athens. If anything, it'll have shields. And maybe West Point when we get a badass enough Rambo or Terminator or Bauer, but not Norris (too badass) and not Bourne (does anyone else find Damon completely out of place in that character?).

From that point, it went better. A lot better. And since I didn't have to endure the unit movements, I got drawn into the game and stopped taking notes. Don't do this at home.

The options are still off, so I advise turning them back on.

T10.
Set espionage at 100% on Ghandi. This way we can steal from him next turn - airships is what I have in mind, but corporations could also be good. I took a bunch of pictures to explain the rest of the situation:

That's our 2-time landing sequence. More boats incoming every turn but we should focus on military at this point IMO. Once we capture a coastal city, they're done for.

We have 1 combat settler and 2 spies in the making. More spies and more cannons would be good, from low-XP cities, whereas I'd push more cavs out of Cretinburg.

Good call.

Snapshot of our global economy: I spent all our treasury on unit upgrades. CR3 rifles agains LB's will annihilate India.

Notice how low our GPP are, this is because we're maxing out food here and there. GIF has a good specialist count BUT it's got sloppy pollution in it so it's due for a couple spy buildings. There's a bunch of specialists to be gained from growths when we start working the whole terrain we own.

This is half-irrelevant for short-term planning, but it shows that while the Zulus seem to have a good grip on their English war, despite a smaller empire, they're getting crushed by ressource shortage, WW and emancipation. The longer this war lasts, the weaker England will be, unless the tables turn. I'd feed Zulus to military parity with England.

:hatsoff:

Happy new year guys.

Very nice write-up beorn, good for idiots like me to get involved again in the action to come. Seems like we are on a solid way to bring this baby home.
Somebody said a thing about conquest (victory?), which is imho a bad idea with complete kills option on [grrr] ;) , I think domination is probably the easiest victory, but a cold (spy) war would fit our theme better.

edit: a roster would be terrific, but I´m too dumb for that :mischief:

roster check:
beorn - done good. Idiot academy was nice touch. ;)
mitiu ioan - UP! for 15
triviAL - on deck for 15
wenz - seems to have knowledge of beorn, hmm...
AK - clueless as usual

The comments are outdated, maybe except AK's, and I find myself wondering why the admiral thought we knew each other. Oh well. Schyzophrenia.

The "for 15" are also misplaced, since we're playing 10 pretty much, I guess. Either way, war with India is imminent.

Plagarizing LK -

Ironworks - Athens (being built)
Oxford - Happytowne
Red Cross - Cretinberg (suggested)
Wall Street - ????
West Point - ????

Do we want to divert for the fascist GG at some point?

The longer this war lasts, the weaker England will be, unless the tables turn. I'd feed Zulus to military parity with England.
Shoud the first England read "Zulus?"

Since vassals are off, there is no penalty for number of overseas cities? anyone know?

Nope, it reads England. I doubt the Zulus will get weaker, they are already quite weak, but the war does strain England. If we push the Zulus up, England will have to commit even more and both will be really weak, in the end, compared to everyone else.

West Point: I'm not sure whether it is better to stack an absurd amount of XP generating stuff in one same city or split it between strong producers. If we put West Point in Athens we get 2 pumps for lvl 3 units as opposed to one pump for lvl 4 units and 1 for lvl 2 units. Either way, I'd say West Point and Red Cross go in these 2, and Wall Street in Happy.

beorn -
mitiu ioan - over 48 hours, no post, holidays over, skip
triviAL - up for 10 or 15, your choice
wenz - on deck
AK - clueless as usual

This is a got it! Should be able to play tomorrow night.

Will try to post some thinking this evening when I get in.

Did you all survive the years worst day OK (the 7th Jan)? Means the rest of the year should be better!

I spent it sneaking off to be interviewed for a new job. :)

for sure I´m an idiot for asking, but... what is so bad about 7th Jan?
only thing I found was in 1558, as the french catured Calais, the last english holding on the european mainland with the help of a great spy ;)

what is so bad about 7th Jan?
guessing the first day back to work after holiday...

B, I kept getting an error message when trying to open your save. Hopefully it was me and not BUG acting up.

Hmmm, I'll look into it if TriviAl has the problem, otherwise I'll play politician and change subjects.

First day of work back from holidays isn't the 14th for you guys? :p

Sorry for the delay. I've been living in 'interesting times' lately... house and job all looking to change - along with my current job being problematic - lots of running about and not enough CiV time. :/

I can 99.9% certain play my turns on Friday night - if someone wants to hop in before then feel free - otherwise I will do it then.

Many apologies for any inconvenience I've caused...

The 7th is meant to be the worst day in the UK as it's the first full week back to work after Christmas...

Never apologize for RL interference with civ, we know your pain and we understand ;)

I just played so I'll leave it to the next better dude, if anyone wants to take it before TA anyways.

Bah. This is not going well. Afraid I've not had a chance to play yet - too many things going on. Regretfully need to ask for a skip.

Hoping things are more sensible after Monday...

I took a look over the save - seems that we could wage a war against Gandhi ( he has a veeeery bad opinion about us ) as next target - and after this try to see how far we are from Domination condition ... ;)

I'll suggest to finnish Railroad and after this going to Assembly Line.

What are your opinion ?

I plan to play my moves tonight ... :)

Regards
