Thought I would start a thread on random questions for Spore.

Mine (note I'm still horribly disappointed by the extreme overhype of Spore's pre-release, EA's expansion pack schemes/scams, and the overall lack of gameplay in Spore, but I'll give the first real expansion pack a whirl):

How hard is it to mod new objects in Spore? For example, can we add a new kind of spice warehouse, so there are two tiers of warehouses? Can we make brand new musical buildings for Tribal stage?

How hard is it to change the ruleset of Spore? For example, can we alter the rules of Tribal stage, or is it totally hard-coded and in need of a non-existent SDK?

At least I started this meme...

The 'Questions not worth their own thread' meme?

everything is pretty much hard coded, thats generally what you need to mod, especially with companies that release on consoles, its still easily possible though, lots of people mod games that have no intention of ever being mod, mario is a good example

as a side note, i wouldn't call it over hype, EA extremely failed to deliver a game that was 'science' in a box.

this is pretty much what EA did to us, except i guess one could say spore is a prettier gameboy rather than something that is both ugly and nonfunctional.

I would call it overhype , but I wouldn't join in the chants that Spore failed Science (rather I'd say it didn't promise to be, it just tried to imply it with photops at NASA, and such). I don't recall Spore exactly promising to be edutainment. But they did imply/promise a heck of a lot in over the years, including in video. And definitely, they did very little (nothing?) to dispel any hype.

And traditional gameplay was sorely weak in the base game, which was a big surprise (except to EA cynics). And gameable expansions (C&C not being that) were not at release though we were under the impression there was tons of content cut from the main game.

Not saying Spore is a failure in retrospect, but it was way overhyped/overpriced for it was.
