On this day (11 August) a patent for the spork (or foon) was issued to the Van Brode Milling Company in 1970. Truly a milestone to be commemorated.
The Question: What do you call the thing? A Spork or Foon? Or Runcible Spoon (c.f. Edward Lear!)?
(Personally I prefer foon, because it's less used.)

Here's a picture for you visual learners.

This was the center of a huge argument at school last year. Pretty sad, but it lasted a week and wasted plenty of learning time. Its a spork, plain and simple.

If you want to call it a fo-oon or a fopoon, I might see where you are coming from, but foon just does not get enough of the fork in there...not to mention, it has always been spork to me. :p

hey, i use those to eat pasta salad!
Yeh.

I would call it that 'cheap piece of plasticy crap that they give you when you buy pasta salads from supermarkets'.

how bout a 'hybrid eating utensil'?
That sounds like something somebody came up with to avoid using a term many thought to be politically incorrect... ;)

Spork. There has never been, is not, and will never be anything called a foon.

Sporks are cool. I never heard it called a foon before.
I am waiting for a fife or a knoon. Or better yet a knoonork.

I know a guy I'd like to call a foon...

Anyway, I'd like to call it a spork, but would probably just call it a thingy, or alternatively, one of those things.

I call it a blasphemous tool of the devil. If you want a fork use one and if you want a spoon use a spoon.

I call it a spork. Its been named the spork and thus the name should stick.

I tried to call it a Foon at one time, but the name just really didn't stick, despite my efforts. So I call it Spork.

spork. any other name is dumb :p

Deffinetly a spork as wierd as they may be.
