Spring 2017 Patch Live now

I do not like restarting, but I may have to in a minute
However I have never seen Barbs do this before, we may have the start of an AI gentlemen

Has anybody done any datamining for hints on future civs yet?

Deity, looks like if you meet a civ at deity its gonna DOW you, I even had Japan on +17 diplomacy and they DOW'd

So much for a peaceful option
Diplomacy is pretty much useless on Deity except to get the odd trade deal with a distant AI, unfortunately. Which is sad given that in Civ IV AI could win without constantly DOWing you on the higher difficulty levels (usually it was culture or science victory for them).

YES!!
Deity definitely should be virtually impossible, even with 'optimal' map placement.

Easy for me to say, since I am a prince/king player, though on huge continents. To me, though I may be a wimp, I consider those who play duel maps are also wimps, whatever the difficulty.
Drag y'all down to my level.

That's not good. :( I guess you need to play Alexander...

Holy crap is this patch tough. Wow, I'm facing a massive onslaught of Chinese knights and other units. The AI is building many many more troops than usual. And this is on Prince Difficulty

Looks like I'll do it now, full dom though and I wanted a cultural.
Money is just so cheap to vicky and certainly saved my hide.

Uhhh, helped me a lot in the early stages. Warmonger does not seem so steep early. Its weird like al civs start thinking they will kill you then have a personality change. Even Ghandi asked for the old joint war trap. The AI now can fight!

How did diplomacy help early? No matter who your neighbor is, he/she will attack you on Deity. Even Gandhi. XD

On a peninsula... without water in my first 2 cities but lots of plains hills with sheep and eles and spices made up for it. Spain had me cornered so I went for him early but the way he played archers was damn clever and I only got one city but got a good gold settlement. Anyways... one city = -18 so he would never be my buddy. I found gilgamesh with a galley next to be badly beaten by barbs but surviving. Gave him some gold and borders and Peter had denounced him so I went looking for Peter and denounced him... bam Gilga was a buddy. We DOW's Peter together and I managed to get 4/5 cities buy waiting for gilga to reduce them then taking then with caravels.
Look, most Civs will get nasty quick then get over it, first impressions decay a point every 10 turns but I think the initil attack just feels different, like they go out of their way for ya. Survive that and you have a chance. Politics seems better than it was, certainly early warmonger but I only got friends the way I did before the patch.Yes you start taking lots of cities you will be hated, get used to it. I forgot to check WM decay, it was a pont every 2 turns befor ethe patch.

You just cannot plan civ out, especially at that level now... you gotta roll with the punches... I'm glad I went navy... the AI can now use ranged troops well and seems to position well sometimes. Still does plenty of stupid things and thats what I had to do, take advantage. I did restore twice... hey I wanted to get there. The AI kept suprising me... My advice is be very careful on attack.

tired, gonna crash, have fun

One question I have, not sure when I'll get to play, is does the AI capture AI cities and capitals yet? One major need still is a non-isolated snowball threat.

.... *gulp*.... And I usually play on Prince difficulty...

Knights on prince. I usually play warlord, I wonder what to expect. At least I can be sure I won't get Cyrus and Alex until I send Firaxis some $$$

Prince difficulty level AI here. This is the first I've seen of this on this diff. level. They actually had a couple more units, but I had already destroyed them I believe, I think this is the 2nd turn of the war. Turned out to be a glorious war. After wiping out his invading force (this is TSL Earth map btw), I already had 3 bombarbs pre positioned above the Himalayan mountains, and a cavalry as well. Turned out though I had to bring more units north and rush buy a few others, since he had enough units up North to repulse my cavalry and bombards. But I eventually took 3 of his cities, and got a 4th in the peace deal. I wanted all his cities, but I had civil unrest in Madrid (like 5 units and I only had 1 unit defending), luckily I was 2 turns away from taking China's capital.

I used to ignore military tactics before, but this game the AI is loving horse units. It's not longer a skippable tech anymore, at least for me.I would have been toast if those were ancient walls. I always beeline towards the civic that gives civil defense, as I don't like to waste a lot of resources on walls. I was able to repulse all these units. The field cannon came in most handy. Hong Kong's crossbowman were the most deadly. I didn't have nearly enough envoys to get them on my side.

And yes, that is the Coloseum there. I had to chop a lot of jungle to beat China to that. The first time I seen the AI really go after that wonder. I didn't think I'd get it in time.

I just noticed a change that isn't listed in the Patch notes. Unless it's a mod I play with that's causing it, the Suzerains in the City State screen are listed by Leader. I recall them being listed by Civilization prior to the patch.

I noticed that, and some notifications say the leader instead of the civ too.

The AI has improved in empire management, but not in combat. It has more and better units now but it doesn't know how to use them.
