PLAY:
meet Aztec and declare war - no own units, only capitaly city

416 - start, my city founded
421 - meet Aztecs - delete all own units
I have three tiles worked, just to see if Aztecs will pillage
423 - I declare war (I forgot it before)
Aztecs are ca 12 tiles away
427 - Aztecs settle a city

435 - Aztec ranger corps appears and pillages my uranium mine
436 - ranger corps attacks city
439 - 453 ranger corps attacks city, EVERY turn
455 - Aztec add a new city
456 - 466 ranger corps attacks city, EVERY turn
467 - Aztec ranger corp moved a tile and then continues attack
468 - Another Aztec ranger comes next to my city
469-470 - only the solo ranger attacks
471 - solo ranger joins the corps to form army!
472 - ranger army attacks
476 - a machine gun corp appears near
477 - machine gun corp moves next to my city
478 - ONLY ranger army attacks, infantry army appears near
478 - ONLY ranger army attacks, infantry army stays away from city and waits
lone Aztec settler is wandering near
479 - infantry army moves next to my city
now there are machin guns, and rangers too there
another infantry corps appears near - quite some forces here!
Aztecs settle city near me
480 - infantry army attacks and it is over…

Interesting - all in all, I find it an improvement,
next I will test the same but with my city shooting and having a def range unit in my city shooting
 
I was just taken out by Cleo on King (yes King). Normally you don't have to worry so much about these things, especially not from her. It happen very early. I had two warriors and a slinger (upgraded to archer during the war). Kudos to her that she actually attacked my capital repeatedly and not started to wandering around looking at the birds all of a sudden as they sometimes do.
Lesson: Obviously I have to play less arrogant in my next game.

556 - MechInf army (M-A) appears and a Sniper (S) too
557 - another (!) M-A appears, first M-A is next to my city
I cannot shoot with the city as it has no walls
558 - a Mg-A comes, now there are 3 armies near - I do damage
559 - a MgC appears too, first M-A attacks my city - I do damage
560 - 2 armies and a solo Mg are next to my city, M-A attacks - I do damage

I think it was great, AI collected forces and then used it quick...
 
Kinda odd that they still let the AI build Science Victory stuff when it's not active.
 
Earth Satellite and Moon Landing have some use (show map and lots of culture). Mars stuff is pointless.

I feel like the main thing with these tests is that the AI simply doesn't see the need to conquer for most of the time. Only when they're pressed for space they'll want to start conquering. After all, it's much easier to settle a city than to conquer one.

And yeah, in the second test it was clearly pursuing a science victory, though that makes no sense.

It's because Firaxis intends to change victory conditions so instead of victory you gain points for each one you achieve.;)

I would love to at least have this option.
 
Doesn't the AI know its relative strength?
I mean, human players do when looking at the victory condition progress.
 
What's a sniper? A new unit? I don't remember ever seeing it.

In my game last night I had 3 cities in an inverted triangle. Vicky put her troops in the middle of them before attacking.

She continued to respond well to my troop movements, putting her strength at my weak points. Forested hills and rivers won the day for me. And Cyrus' speed boost (I dow'd Poland to get it).
 
Things are looking up for the AI, but do they use aircraft now?
 
Oh, you should definitely disable all your mods before doing tests like this.

Is it new that modern walls do not recover...?

No. My walls weren't recovering when I did these tests last patch - people say there's a "wall repair" project that should become available if your city doesn't take damage for three turns, but I have literally never seen it.

I assume the project doesn't exist for cities that only have walls due to the Civil Engineering civic (IE: All cities in the test)
