Did you know that when you visit many websites that a cookie file is left on your computer that keeps track of everywhere you go and then tells other sites where you have been when you visit them?

I found a free program that finds these kinds of suspicious files and allows you to get rid of them. It's called Ad-aware, here is the link... http://www.lavasoftusa.com

Using Ad-aware I found cookie files called doubleclick, admonitor, flycast and valueclick on my computer and deleted them.

You can just disable cookies in your web browser.

Of course you have to log into EVERY website you visit, EVERYTIME you visit if you don't have cookies enabled. And you can't even access some sites

So I don't bother.

If you guys only knew what was installed on your computers....and the security holes.

I've got that same program on my computer, but make sure you backup everything you delete. When I first used Ad-aware it totally f***ed up my system. It ended up deleting some software on my computer that really is needed to run the computer. In fact, untill I restored the backup of those files the only programs on my computer that worked were Windows and Ad-Aware...EVERYTHING else was shot.

To BlueMonday:
Were the programs that wouldn't work Getright or Go!Zilla? Were there any programs that suffered that were not one of the spyware programs, and what ones?

I always make sure it's not deleting anything I need but so far it hasn't asked to delete anything other than spyware. Maybe this version 5.5 is better.

With a mac, you just go to the Cache folder and throw out your cookie file

Very easy. They can send me all the deserts they want, but they all end up in the trash at some point or another

It was not just Gozilla. It was Half Life, Civ 2, HomeWorld, Rogue Spear, Sim City, PSP, Winamp, Windows Media Player, Quicktime, Intellipoint, Adaptec, WS_FTP, Zmodeler, Winzip, Internet Explorer, and Netscape. Those were the programs I checked. As far as I know, it could have debilitated every program on this computer except for Windows and Ad Aware.
