Believe it or not they both have performed pretty well on the tournament scene. Olimar really boggles my mind, he just seems so bad. G&W at least has some really good aerials and a quick Dsmash.

Well, I've had decent brawls with G&W, so I can understand why he might be liked by some, but Olimar is just eeeeuuuuuugggghhhhhhh. Probably the only character I could play as with my friends and not be confident of winning with.

Yeah I agree with you Olimar has to be the worst character ever, yet somehow I get owned by a level 9 Olimar!

Okay, 3 level 1 Olimars on one team vs Level 9 Olimar.
Level 9 loses.
Now in a free for all, 3 level 1s and a level 9.
Level 9 won thanks to his special move (which is pretty decent). But he only had 1 life left.
I think it's safe to say he is indeed a horrible charactor. Except for his special move.

Once you learn a decent apporach game against Olimar you can crush him thorugh spacing and ledge guarding. I think it's safe to say indeed that he sucks.
