Stability driving me nuts

and if you really want to go for domination/conquest victory just try to get one of the older (pre stability re-tweaking) versions and have fun.

Or just use stability.py from the previous versions. I'll look if I have some...

Oh Jeepers guys. THIS is just ridiculous !!! We must have some kind of commentary or set of clues that gives us SOME idea of do's and don'ts re stability in general and stability traits of particular empires.

I really do feel as though we're being given 'crumbs at the table of those who know'. I'm managing all of the traits I know about (from the crumbs I've picked up) - doing O.K. then WHAM ! it all starts going downhill. So then we get in one of the threads - 'Ah well you see......'.

Naaah. This won't do.....

Read the release notes threads. That's where most of us found all of this out.

Or just use stability.py from the previous versions. I'll look if I have some...

I believe there is stability code in 6+ files now. Using one old file would probably prevent the mod from loading.

Yep, so I can't have the empire that "I" want.

Well, the empire you want is not fun.

Reading this and other comments, am I right in assuming that the only victory condition you can achieve is the UHV for each civ? And possibly SpaceRace and Culture.

Going for domination or conquest it seems is not possible because of the stability modifier given to each tile per civ. This stops you from capturing and keeping land not owned originally by the civ.

Domination wasn't possible on previous versions either. I got up to 63% Populations and 58% Land Area once before collapsing. I still had another 7% Land Area to go (most of South America). See above link. We did propose to Rhye that the threshold for conquest should be dropped to the 25-33% range. Once you control that much of the world, the game is effectively over, even with all of the tech modifiers.

Anyway, all of the win conditions from regular Warlords/Vanilla are achievable except Domination. Conquest is a doosey, and I've only accomplished it with lots of nukes. UN is fairly easy, as is Cultural and Space Race.

Conquest is a doosey

Some people say you can win a Conquest victory with Babylon. I never tried it, through...

some people say that if you make it to the 1970s as Babylon, Saddam will appear...

Read the Babylonian Strategy article in Rhye's of Wiki.

I already win Conquest with Babylon ;) it is easy, you just need to crush 3 civs with a stack of asshitaru bowman.

I do not want to go for domination as such. I just want to be able to expand my empire better than the original civ did. I do not want to be too harshly penalised for controlling tiles the original civ did not.

I like the factors that have been brought into the game to stop the steamroller effect of the original civ game.

So if I grow my territory slowly, consolidating between expansion, (taking all factors into account) I do not expect to just lose land because the original civ never conquered it.

If the tile ownership stability modifiers are there to ensure AI civs try to follow historical paths - that is a great achievement.

I just think they need to be toned down for the human player, so he can try to do better than history.

In my first ;) game with Spain I have been stable to whole time.

It's 1912 at the moment and I have conquered in this order:

Rome (very early), Aztec, France, Inca & Egypt. I also control some parts of the United States (the middle part + Chicago which I got in a congress). Have had Russia for a long time as vassal (recently declared indipendance and have Carthage now as vasal) This also adds stability ofcourse when you run vice royalty, dont know if it is a big effect but I try to get vasals all the time. Even had the Aztec with 1 city remaining as vazal, but I didnt protect them and they got killed by the independants.

Noone has flipped ! Also i read that the historical terrorities of Spain are less likely to flip but France and Egypt have never been conquered by the Spanish (I think). I did read a lot about the game before I started playing so I know that its better to run a economy with surplus money and switch to some civics. This is my first game; I might just be lucky. :)

Oh.. and I wanted to say this game is GREAT!
