Star Trek unit preview thread

I think they want to make more units before they put v1.1 out. As for civ form, it's still Civ 3.

Loads of space mods instantly went to BtS when they played the Final Frontier mod, (I know I would, but none of the trek ones are finished as far as I know) but I think Flamand will keep the mod 'simple'. ;)

No Civ IV for me and the mod will remain simple. It is currently however in a hibernation cyle of undetermined length... ;)

You still have those Models I sent you for ST? If so, can you send them to me? I am still trying to recompile the data I lost in that hdd crash.

So if you can resend them I would be grateful. :D

I also sent this as a PM, to cover all the bases in trying to reach you. :D

:nuke: Cheers, Thorgrimm :nuke:

Okay, I'm currently downloading the Star Trek Mod for BtS. If there is some cool music, sounds, or other 'compatable' things, I'll let you know.

BTW: since Wormholes don't work, (and maybe I missed when you said this, if you did) let's replace them with Borg Transwarp conduits.

Edit: Flamand: Could you please put a link to the Mod thread on Fanatics? No-one wants to go to that unused website...

I hate to tell you bud, but that site has quite a few hits per day. Only the civ forums are slow since there has been NO updates or work done since the last update. ;) And when we start back up, thats where the updates and mod are going to be located, so you may as well get used to checking that 'unused' website. ;) :D

Sorry. I meant the inactivity on the mod part. People are looking at it, yes. But the last time I checked, you guys, the creators, havn't been active there for an average of 2 years, 3 months. So by that number, I'm convinced that it will be a long time before it 'starts up' on that site.

BTW: Flamand: The BTS Star Trek mod has music (Here I go again  ), but that's all. (It also has still leaderheads, but I think you will want to keep the space-ish leaders.)

Music is one of the easiest things to add to the mod, since there are tons of Trek games out there. The same thing for LH's, which are in most cases nothing more than bmp's cut to size.
What we need is units, units and more units... especially land units, since we have none of those. And techs, icons, and pedia descriptions. I myself am mostly a graphics guy, so I guess I'll be needing some help in those departments... ;) Luckily I have Thor for those things, but we need all the help we can get... :D

Yeah I get to do all the 'fun' stuff, like all the pedia and other txt file work. Lovely. ;) :D

Admit it, that's the work you like most... :p

Lol, considering I suk at gfx work, thats the only type of modding I can do. So it does not matter whether I like it or not; its the only way I can contribute beyond idea generation. :crazyeye: :D

Hey been playing the old star trek mode and have some advice (Btw I love it but tweaked it some)

1. I still think Vulcan, Andor, and Teller should be under the Fed because it is to hard to get them to join and expensive. The others don't seem that hard once you have control of those 3. Fed campaign is hard without these under Fed and Fed was formed with all 4.
2. Make it easier to get ships earlier and be able to expand earlier, boring if you cannot do anything at start.
3. Ships need to move faster on XXL map (I edited them to move faster).
4. More planets needed.
5. Neutrals need more ships (You are editing that on new scenario)
6. Make an 8-player mode for multiplayer
7. Wormhole to Gamma was not done well. Make the Gamma next to Bajor and Cardassia and possible a small path through the purple to be the wormhole.
8. Borg and Dominion are weak, start them off with more techs, powerful ones.
9. Add Talaxian, Hirogen and other Delta quadrant Civs.
10. Romulans are weak until TNG era or at least D7 enters the fleet
11. Create a civ to represent multiple races (I did this on 8 player) was able to add tons of races, even ones not on your scenario under a civ called Minor Civ and made their resistance to corruption average so they did not advance enough or become superpower. (entertaining fights for the bigger powers - also good if you run past the 31 civ limit).
12. Bajor is too close to Cardassia (not sure if they were that close)
13. Romulans too far away from Klingons and Cardassians (In a Dominion War scenario they are useless)
14. Do we need Xindi Alliance?
15. Barbarians should represent minor worlds, pre-warp civilizations
16. Resources need to be more abundant, hard to build ships and not fun if you can't build the ships.
17. Love to see Breen and Ferengi playable with their own ships.
18. Do we need the Q? I really didn't like them on Star Trek. Good thing my favorite one, DS9 didn't have them.

By no means does this mean the scenario is bad or anything. It is great! Just constructive advice.

BTW, it would be cool to just release an early version of your work so far (or edit the old one to put in more ships and models). Make the Breen and Ferengi playable along with the Federation, Borg, Cardassians, Dominion, Klingons, and Romulans.

That is really all the Star Trek powers right there anyways.

A couple of rebutts to your points. ;)

1. The federation ONLY formed due to the Earth-Romulan war. So it should be hard to form the federation without a war impetus.
2. The ships become available when you research their techs. My advice is speed up your research. ;)
3. Do you realize before the development and usage of Anti-Matter for creating a warp field with its higher speeds that the maximum speed was warp 2.5 or 15.6C? Now with the maximum speed of warp 2.5 that meant that a journey of 10 ly would take at least 234 days! So speeds SHOULD be slow till you research the proper techs.
4. I agree.
5. They would not be neutrals if they had fully developed fleet lists.
6. As far as I know, the new scen is not for multi-player. But Flamand would be more able to tell you that.
7. Thats flamand's baby, he can answer this one.
8. Why? So you can conquer the map with ease? Seems to me somebody wants a cheat feature. ;)
9. I may not be the boss on this project, but I am doing all the grunt work and Flamand knows I will REVOLT if we add that crap.
10. Umm, no they were not. Ever hear of the Earth-Romulan War? or how about how they kept the klingons at bay even though they had lost said war? The Romulans were definitely not weak.
11. Not needed. just make the minor civs with a beginning amount of planets and no way to expand. We are doing that with the Fallout Mod and it works great.
12. Actually Bajor is close enough to Cardassia to allow a freakin solar sail ship to get there. Thats pretty darned close. ;)
13. In the new map, based on the Star Fleet maps book, the Roms are closer to the Boneheads but have the Feds between them and the Cards.
14. Once again revolting will occur if that trash is used. :D
15. Actually I think we had plans for making the barbs a Orion Pirate Cartel.
16. Yup resources do need balancing.
17. They are scheduled for a player slot, IIRC.
18. Absolutely freakin not!

Once we finish up the Fallout Mod and Flamand can begin unit making again and gives the word, we are going to begin working on this mod in the Sci Fi Workshop next.

So keep your eyes open for some announcements. :scan:

Make the Breen and Ferengi playable along with the Federation, Borg, Cardassians, Dominion, Klingons, and Romulans.

That is really all the Star Trek powers right there anyways.

Does ANYBODY ever watch the Original Series? Which IS and always will be Star Trek, not the abortion Berman vomited up. The Major races are as follows: Federation, Klingon, Romulan, Tholian and the Gorn. And if you wish to get technical the Invaders from the Andromeda Galaxy could be classified as 'major'. Added by Gene Roddenberry in TAS are the Kzinti. Added in the Next Generation by Roddenberry was the Ferengi. Period. End of statement. ALL other races were added by that bumbling boob Berman and his blue-bearded buffoon Behr. Now I have nothing against the Borg, Dominion, Cardassians or the Breen, but to say they ARE the races of Star Trek shows just how limited your viewerahip of ST is. ;) :D

1. Unfotunately Civ III does not allow the formation of Unions or alliances. This is the best I could do, but for TOS or TNG scenarios I would agree.
2-3. It takes 2-3days to go to the moon, 9 months to go to Mars, years for the outer planets. Space travel is slow, even with early warp. There is a warp factor map though that speeds up the ships a bit.
4. No more planets are needed for me personally, but I guess there could be more.
5. Neutrals will disappear in the new version
6. No multiplayer version for now
7. Wormholes are tricky things to make in Civ III. We'll need to have a couple of long hard thought on that.
8. Even those two had to grow in strength in their early year.
9. No, no and no.
10. The Romulans will get a better fleet in the new version.
11. I don't think that's a good idea. We have 31 slots for races, that should be enough for now.
12. They were close.
13-14. The Xindi are going to be kicked out, moving the Rommies and the Klingons much closer together.
15. Actually I was thinking to add the Doomsday Machine and the Crystalline Entity etc as barbs. The Orions are a civ, but we can discuss that.
16. Perhaps, yes.
17. They will be.
18. No omnipotence in the next version.

The Major races as I see them are:

UFOP, Rommies, Klingons, Cardassian, Breen, Tholians, Dominion and Borg. These are the ones I want to develop first, with minor roles for the Ferengi, Kzinti and Gorn. Later, as ships become available, the latter two can be expanded.
There is not much known on the Andromedians, so I would put them onhold for now. I was thinking, may we can use the civ of those infiltration bug instead (you know, the one that tried to take over Starfleet command in early TNG, an idea of Roddenberry I believe). We can use the enslave flag for that civ, and they would hardly needany units of their own.

Sounds like a plan bud. And I was able to actually find enough models to give the Breen a full fleet list, only one era though. So we will have to use the same unit and adjust the stats for the different eras. Sometimes patience pays off. When we began this there was ONE Breen ship available. Quite a few have been made since then.

I like the idea of the bug race. And yeah that was one of Gene's ideas that boob Berman got rid of when Gene died and he raped ST. :D Can you tell I am not a fan of Berman? ;) :D

1: If they all are in a locked alliance, then that would seem correct(not for the andorians, though.) But I too think it should be easier to 'Offer Membership'.
2-3: What the creators said
4: I have a perfectly good map and it's easy to add more to the mod.
5-6: I realy don't care about these points, but having multiplayer is a +.
7: I don't know what you could do about this...
8: that also is easy, so let's get to it.
9: ^ ^ ^ Not as easy, but still...
10: What they said.
11: Okay: I tried out a 'Minor Civ' just like you, I even blocked them from advancing with a tech, but the thing that gets me is that they still can trade contacts with other civs. If there is a way to stop this, I'm listening.
12: Yes, they're that close.
13-14: see 4. My altered mod has command buttons, music, planets re-aranged, more moon resources, red Demon (class Y) planets, more systems (even new born systems with mostly Geoplastic planets), and a just started Klingon interface (hey, it looked like thing's weren't going too well on the mod's part, so I did some things myself.)
15: Barbs should represent 'agressive' minor worlds. goody huts should represent passive ones.
16: Agreed
17: Let the 'consumers' have the Ferengi playable. (I think it gives a new perspective to the ST universe.
18:It would be nice if meeting the Q were some kind of event, but this is civ 3. If their 'Q' units are locked out until TNG, with non to start with, I think they might be okay.

We should make a new ST forum in the workshop. How to make it there?

We should make a new ST forum in the workshop. How to make it there?

Since you are head honcho for the ST Mod PM Thunderfall and let him know we are finishing up the FO Mod and will be moving on to the ST Mod. I had let him know we had plans for quite a few Sci Fi mods and wanted them to rest in the Sci Fi Workshop. So I am sure he would be more than happy to create the fora in the Workshop. :)
