Star Wars in FREEDEE!

I have never seen the Hayden guy in any other movie. As such I feel bad judging him too harshly by the prequels because as you pointed out even Portman who is well known to be a good actress was sort of dragged down by the dialogue Lucas was slopping out there.

He was also in Jumper and was equally terrible in that.
He was also in "Awake", which was pretty lame... good story, bad, bad acting... mainly by him and Jessica Alba...

I think we nostalgic folks should come to terms with the hard fact that the original Star Wars sucked big time as well.
I call for your immediate and permanent banishment!

I thought that Hayden Christiansen played a good "disaffected teenager with super-powers" in Jumper. Unfortunately, that made his character into an unlikeable ass and the film just wasn't that good anyway.

I think we nostalgic folks should come to terms with the hard fact that the original Star Wars sucked big time as well. Acting was awful (apart from Harrison Ford, naturally), dialogues were written by dumb kids and the plot itself was rather laughable.

They were certainly cheesy, but I wouldn't say they sucked. A New Hope is seriously over rated and had some of the worst performances of the triology, and the ewoks were every bit as bad as Jar Jar in RotJ, but I actually think the plot of all three is rather good (I actually think tESB is almost flawless). It has a good arc for just about every major character, and did it in a way that (at the time) was entirely unique.

Sure the movie wasn't realistic at all, but it's a fantasy. If you are going to argue the story sucked because the science and aliens were unrealistic it would be like arguing The Lord of the Rings sucked because there is no fossil records for orcs and elves.

Of course the original trilogy wasn't perfect, but the most important part that sets it apart from the prequels is that it's honest about what it is.

There's not the fake epicness, the faux romance story, or the bland political allegory Lucas tried to insert into the prequels. It's a simple adventure story set in a conflict of good and evil.

And they had the advantage of hiring better actors (Ford was an insanely lucky cast imo, his improvised "I know" in TESB trumps everyone in the prequels alone) for the main characters (the prequels had good actors, but not in plot-critical roles).

That said, I think Hayden Christensen gets too much undeserved flak. He was just unlucky to get dealt bad scripts.

the only reason the saga started in the first place is "Sir" Alec Guiness agreed to play , for the depths of the story which the prequels start to touch in some serious way, otherwise it would have remained a one single grossly expensive B-movie . That is if it ever got made ...

How many versions need to be shoved down our throat throughout our life?

Whenever a new technology comes in film making, George Lucas will say that it has finally caught up with his original vision, and will make changes to his films using the technology and say it was always meant to be that way.

George Lucas loves money more than any investment banker out there.

Call me when 2015 rolls around so I can see the original trilogy in theaters.

It won't even be the original trilogy. It will be the crappy 'special edition' version in which Greedo shoots first and Sebastian Shaw gets replaced by Hayden Christensen. Blech.

I second this.

in which Greedo shoots first

EDIT: Just saw the video. That narrator should never be allowed near a microphone ever again.

Lucas apparently has tried to claim recently that Greedo has always shot first and Han shooting first was simply an illusion created by the camera being too close. He is such a bad liar.

Mmm. It's a shame Alec Guinness mailed the original trilogy in. Extremely uninspiring. Ewan MacGregor was a better Obi-Wan.

Incidentally, I just got back from watching this. It was honestly better than I remembered in many ways. I mean, sure, terrible dialogue in places, plot holes, the presence of Jake Lloyd and Ahmed Best, but still. If this had been a Star Trek movie people would've creamed themselves.

The 3-D was semi-noticeable, didn't screw much up, and made the ending Battle of Naboo (at least, the dogfighting scenes and the lightsaber duel) significantly more watchable.

had to check Wikipedia to avoid any particularly obvious mismatch but am confident that Sissy Spacek was first to be signed for Star Wars as a "career booster" , where she would be a closer match to the notion of Luke's twin , the original Ralph McQuarrie drawings do show a blonde but was "stolen" for Carrie , which still got her nomination and Carrie Fisher was posted over by Coppola . She did allright too , as far as ı can see .

for Alec Guiness . Indeed , MacGregor looks rather more convincing as the guy for whom Padme Amidala is a regular entertainment -or was by EpisodeIII- and the physical scenes but that has much to do with his youth at time of filming .

I was actually talking about line delivery, but I guess no thread would be complete without you injecting ridiculous conspiracy theories into it.

as already mentioned ı checked Wikipedia to see it is even there that Guiness did not much like role he played etc . Regarding conspiracies , well ı neither mentioned Rip Thorne was unpopular by certain financiers or David Niven was not exactly a fan of the SW series , did ı ? Nor it was touched upon that the film studio actually closed the FX department , so that Lucas was forced to get his own company for effects , something he couldn't just let go and SW fans now accuse him of being obsessed with his own visuals machinery ...
