Hey guys I'm back sorry I was gone so long but I was wondering why no one's talked on here in over 3 months. Anyways don't forget about Star Wars Galaxies coming out in a while. Anyone seen EP2? I did! It's sweet! Anyways, don't forget that Bounty Hunter is also coming out

That's funny, because I was thinking of bumping this thread back up to the top as a kind of advertisement, but I didn't because it would make the moderators mad at me.:D

So anyway, visit the mod's Web site (see my signature) to discuss the mod and also, any unit creators who could help with the units, that would be great.:D

Thanks.

Ya know you guys are doing an absolute horrible job on the terrain I don't mean to be so rude and insensitive to your hard work, but it's not even remotely accurate to space or Star Wars whoever is in charge of the terrain has got to research and come up with better graphics like actual planets, comets, asteroid belts, nebulas, stars, moons, space dust, binary star systems, terrain on the planets, space stations, space outposts, a couple black holes, meteors, meteorites, and many other ideas you could put on it. Now I know you guys are working very hard and trying to give something to the fans out there but I really think I am and most people are sick and tired of a game or in this case a mod that's inaccurate especially to the terrain. People usually spend lots of effort on the units but not enough on the terrain. Also more improvements, wonders, and make sure to make Coruscant the most accurate of planets considering it is the center of the New Republic and the previous Galactic Empire.

Well I hope I didn't insult your work too much if I did let me know I'm just giving feedback like I figured you wanted people to do

Thanks for the feedback, because that's what is needed to improve the mod. Remember that it's only the first version of the terrain and feedback was requested, so try emailing Lukree with your feedback and he might go about updating it to look more realistic.

I'm not sure what you mean about making Coruscant a planet. Do you mean on the map, or city graphics? Please elaborate.

Thanks.

Oh ok What I mean by making it a planet I mean literally detailing it when you place it on the terrain and please please don't make planets like cities or space stations I really hate it when people do that it's just so........pathetic and uncreative. On the map it should be located like all other planets as a dot but in a different color depending on the planet, it's importance and it's alliance.

So you mean actually drawing little planets into the space terrain but making them detailed enough to actually tell what planet is what?

I got to ask are you going to make the actual planet's terrain on the area in which the people play spread out like it's not a planet at all just like a continent on a planet or an island in the ocean? Look I'm telling you an accurate one is going to give you the ability to travel between planets but give you another map that allows you to travel on the ground of that planet, but I doubt with the Civ engine you could do that you would probably have to complete rewire the graphics engine.

You're right about that - we are very limited by Civ3's engine. So I guess you can assume that "continents" are "planets" and the "ocean" is the "space" between the different planets. I know it's silly, but it's kind of what we are forced to do because Civ3 doesn't allow you to play on simultaneous maps. Also, if someone went and used the default Civ3 graphics, with the regular water, they could create a map and assume it to be a single planet, but then you have conflicts with the graphics files, unless the next patch allows each scenario to have its own independent graphics files, etc.

I know it's called a Star Wars MOD, and it will be, but the area in which this mod will really shine is when people start making scenarios with it. I can forsee some awesome Rebel/Empire scenarios, and Battle of Endor scenarios, and... You get the idea.:D

Well, um I know of a Scenario and actually a mod that was made for Civ 2 that has very bad graphics that used planets, asteroid fields and belts, comets, nebulas, space dust, and some other things for land basically a space station was the land and the planets around them were the resources with resources ontop of the planets so you guys are probably going to have better capabilities with which to make planets so I'm sorry for being an *******, but making an excuse that you can't make planets is truely pathetic. No offense meant

Where can I find this mod?

So are you saying you want us to do what they did in that mod, or something different? I'm still confused as to what exactly you're suggesting we do to implement planets on the map. If you have a good idea and it's possible to implement it, given Civ3's limitations, let me know, 'cause I'm still a bit confused.

Thanks.

BTW This mod is in the Scifi Scenario section of this website and the fact of the matter is all I want you to do is just try making planets that are small but detailed enough to make a difference so that they don't look horribly and quickly made. Remember that every planet is different from the next so be careful how you make the environments between each and research as much as you possibly can to the extent of being legally possible

The problem I see is that since it is a mod, people will probably want to play in a Civ3 fashion, where you start from scratch, on a random map, and build your empire. I cannot think of a way to put planets in there so that they would work properly with random maps. So if we made them as resourses, you could easily spread them out on a custom map, but on a randomly generated map, they'd show up randomly and you'd see multiple instances of the same planet (however, that may be fixable with appearance ratios...). The same thing applies if the planets were actually drawn into the space terrain graphics - they'd show up randomly around the map. Of course, making them as immoble units would not work except for scenarios (when the editor comes out that lets us place units on the map), and even so, they'd be attackable by any ships traveling through space, and you don't see ships destroying planets in Star Wars (only the Death Star did that). I cannot think of any better ways to implement them, so please try and help me come up with ideas instead of just calling the mod pathetic.

Thanks.

Ok I'm sorry you're correct I really can't think of anyway of making them possible, but I guess you could review the scenario and see how they did it, but other than that I really can't give you anything else

OK, I did some experimenting with the random map thing. Here is the best possible way to get planets to appear on the map, and be somewhat compatible with random maps:

I found that if you create a strategic resourse, and give it an appearance ratio of 1, it will appear, at the most, twice on a randomly generated map (even a huge map with 16 players). So we can make planets appear on the map as "strategic resourses" that will have no strategic value because they'll appear in space (water, meaning you can't build roads to them). I think having the same planet appearing twice isn't too bad, because they'll be located away from each other and you won't really notice it that much. It's still not perfect, but it's the best way I can think of right now. (At least it's better than that Civ2 scenario where the same icon appeared over and over again).

I really think that the graphics Lukree made are excellent, and with some custom maps it could really resemble planets. Thinker, your ideas really stink IMHO... But only IMHO...
And also IMHO you should wait with making the actual mod and only work on graphics at least till the new editor due this month is out, since it will have stuff like unit placement, city placement, and terrain specific cities (?).
It would be even better to wait for PtW, cause there there will be a possibility to create separate working terrain sets, and (I hope) simultaneus maps...

just my two cents...

Yes, I agree that Lukree's graphics are great, but I don't think the idea of adding planets on the map is that bad of an idea. But it's only a cosmetic thing, and the units and stuff are more important at this time, so adding planets on the map is not a priority right now. And the graphics have been the focus of the mod since we first started doing it, and that's basically what we've been working on all this time. The units and leaderheads are the most time-consuming of all the graphics, of course. I have no idea when the "actual mod" will be completed, because the graphics are taking so long.
