Star Wars: Return of the Mod

Endor Evenly matched? Nah, it was intended to be a slaughter.

An entire legion of storm troopers on the ground with AT-AT and AT-ST compliments, Star Destroyers in the 20s or 30s, a Super Star Destroyer, an Operational Death Star, waves and waves of fighters, etc.

But a series of unfortunate events led to the empire to lose that battle.

Here's how I invision tech tree 1: Founding of Galactic Civilization

Tech Tree 2: Dawn of the Clone Wars

Some good ideas. I'll try to combine the aspects of both of our tech trees together. There are a few weird things on yours, though. Like why is projectile weapons a tech? We're not doing this mod in the stone age or anything..

Well, you see here, I kinda had mine sort of begin at our modern times.

And also Boba Fett and Jango Fett both had several projectile weapons in their arsenals...

And yes, I did research on wookiepedia for this.

A quick question before I move onto the other eras:

Do you plan for this to extend into the Galactic Civil War? Or just the Clone Wars?

Ok. Now to explain my tech trees because I'm bored.

Era 1:

City Construction- to build basic large massive metros. And a good place to throw basic city improvements there.

Robotics- Your basic st00pid bit of machienery.

Basic Spaceflight- Basic spacecraft to your local planetary system.

Projectile Weapons- For those primative things like Machine Guns, Modern day tanks, etc.

Force Awareness- Before contact with other civilizations, some schollars of almost every force capable species have noticed a sort of "other" entity that permiates around everything. They have no idea what it is, and have no way to access it, but they know it exists.

AI- Actual intelligent Artificial Intelligence! Basically some droid that is stuck in a computer, and no droid body.

Blaster Technology- For primitive blasters. Basic weapons that shoot explody light.

Force Manipulation- Yay. Those said schollars have now figured out a way to manipulate the other entity. They have also called it the Force because it can act as a Force. Lightsabers have not been invented yet.

Terraforming- Not enough room for farming and stuff, so you terraform the planet to make room. And room for cities as well. Naturally, modifying your planet takes lots of skillz, so you need some AI to help do so.

Droids- Those said AI now have a sort of a shell so they are mobile, instead of stuck on a floppy disk or whatever they use in the future.

Sublight Drives- After managing to go faster than 5% the speed of light, you can go to other star systems! Yay! But the interstellar flight in subspace is very boring to be alive the whole time. So you go into Cyrofreeze, and have your onboard AI monitor the ship.

Subspace combat- Now armed with these Blaster things, and your primative hunk of junk that can fly pretty fast, you can shoot at others who you don't agree with.

Frozen Blaster Technology- The earliest lightsabers are like this. A sort of a blaster sword. Very draining on power. Very useless for combat. Very ceremonial.

Ecumenopolis- Your everyday City-planet. A planet sized city! Like Courscant! (and like 50 others) Needs some AI with a construction droid's shell to be able to do such percision and massive terraforming. Not to mention piping your water around, and cleaning the CO2 and stuff.

Hyperdrive- Now with FTL travel, you can actually be alive to set off on a journey to the stars and get there, instead of going there, and sleeping the whole time, plant a flag, come back, and have all your firends and family dead. This needs some better AI in the form of a droid so you won't hit some speck of matter and esplode.

Planetary Defenses- Now when Asteroids come, it helps you not die! And those pesky invaders too. Them too.

Lightsaber Construction- Building lightsabers is now efficient combining the power of the Force to fuse togeather your parts at the molecular level, and with the idea with frozen blaster technology and you get an energy sword! Yayness.

Galactic Government- Now with your planet cities and your hyperdrive, time to make a galaxy wide government.

Interstellar Fleets- Destroy your enemies with your interstellar fleets! Punch through their defenses, burn their cities, enslave their race, and be back in time for your daily cup of tea.

Force Orders- A bunch of rouge Force users running around with lightsabers isn't useful for society. So creating an Order of such Force users is nice. Based on their ideologies of course, that makes all the difference.

Era 2:

Battle Droids- Giving a Droid a gun, and programming them to shoot people. Saves your people, and still gives you an army. Useful, no?

Multi-Terrain Infantry- An invasion army is pitiful if they are stopped by a mere ocean world, or a lava world. Invasions must go on!

Genetics- With knowledge of genetics, your people won't die as easily if you can cure them of genetic diseases, and you can make food yields better, and stuff associated with that.

Galactic Capitalism- Adam Smith's Capitalism, applied to the Galaxy.

Repusolift Vehicles- Vehicles that float can go pretty fast. Then you can transport dudes quickly around.

All Terrain Vehicles- Same with Multi-Terrain Infantry, except with vehicles. And stuff that carries people.

Orbital Shipyards- Need some sort of specialized planet to build your massive navies. So an orbital shipyard is good. 0G is good for building fleets in 0G.

Super Battle Droids- Battle Droids, but super. More armor, better AI. Yay.

Personal Shielding- Apply that starfighter's shields to a person, and you've gotten casualty rates down. Low casualties is good for morale.

Cloning- Clone useful things. Such as an unusually good variety of corn, or Uber troopers.

Trade Unions- Coorporations, unite and form massive monopolies! And umbrella Coorporations and stuff like that.

Tanks- Hovery tanks with improved armor now come back and are useful on the battlefield.

Tactical Fighters- Your X-wings, Y-wings, Droid Star Fighters, TIE Fighters, Tie Bombers, etc.

Frigates- Nice for hit and run missions. Good AA capabilities. Nicely used to shoot down those fighters ripping your capital ships up.

Capital ships- If it's large, and it sails the seas, the Capital ship can destroy it. Also great for planetary bombardment.

Dropships- Stop invading planets 1 man at a time! Now invade with 1000 man dropships.

Destroyer Droids- Shielded Droids with 2 twin blasters of doom... What can be better?

Commandos- Sabotage! Blow up enemies infrastructure. Assassinate. General havoc. Very useful.

Clone troopers- The Uber clone template has been found! Ctrl-C. Ctrl-V. Ctrl-V X a few million.

Battle Walkers- Yeah, those AT-TEs, Spider Walkers, you know. The massive things that walk around and turn people and droids to ash.

Fleet Carriers- Capital ships that carry massive numbers of fighters and bombers. So they are not like 2 to a ship, or stuck on planetary guard duty only. And serves as a nice upgrade for the existing capital ships. To be deathly and have your own fighters! :D

"battle droids" and "clone troopers" are technologies perhaps not so wonderfully designed for all civs - i'd recommend more of a civ specific tree, or line, to allow each civ to research untradable secrets that they alone use. Else we'll just have defunct techs, as republic players won't get much bonus from "destroyer droids", as they won't be able to trade them either (being viciously at war).

Also, you could change some techs like "battle walkers" to something a bit more generic, like "plasteel", that allows armoured machines as well as a couple of new improvements and resources...

I am experimenting with creating three separate tech trees (with different wonders, units, improvments, etc) for each of my three civilizations in my Clone Wars Scenario. This way each civilization will be able to be completely different with different strengths and weaknesses. I am hoping this will add a more enjoyable gaming experience.

The Clone Troopers tech is Republic only, and destroyer droids is CIS only. (I'm not bothering to put in the details of the no era techs. That I think Odin knows how to do.) The Republic did intend to experiment with battle droids of their own, but the experiment failed.

What I originally intended is sort of using separate lines of tech, such as one line for Infantry, one for tanks, and one for spacecraft. And then it kind of blurred a bit.

Or we can do what they did in the WWII Europe scenario did - Make all the techs grouped together by era, (infantry in one era, mech in another, spacecraft in a third, and economy in a 4th. Then make all of them not required to advance, so you can mix and match your armies with your tech choices.)

I like the WWII mod idea! Although here is my take on it;

First era - era of expansion. This era has to be completed before the other three are made available.
This era just gives players the normal civ-3 style tech tree, so they begin at basics with primitive pellet firing riflemen, and develop their civ into a space-flight capable empire... Techs such as 'gas mining' allowing resources like tibanna, granting blaster weaponry, and 'unified language' allows trade between civs. As a basic age, the end result will be spaceships that can travel through the sea, but not into hyperspace.

Second era - Planetary Development. The next three eras are split into lines, like the pentagenesis mod. Each line will provide one type of advance, although certain techs require techs from other lines, e.g. in the next era plasteel armour from line 2 will be needed for starships in line 3, and ion cannons in line 5 will be neede for heavy warships again in line 3.
Line 1 - population control [happiness, luxuries]
line 2 - income [markets, science]
line 3 - production [factories, shipyards]
line 4 - growth [granaries, bacta etc.]
line 5 - not entirely sure what will fit here, as trade is covered in era 1

Third era - Military Development
Line 1 - Military buildings [defensive grids, barracks, etc]
Line 2 - Infantry [i only devote one line to infantry, because otherwise we pack in too many units, which just aren't being made. Infantry provide defense on the ground. All infantry units will upgrade, so there is only one unit at any one time.]
Line 3 - Armour [mechs, again only one line so that too many aren't needed. Airspeeders and walkers are all included here. Mechs provide ground assault, and will upgrade so there is only one at any time.]
Line 4 - Starships [Each starship will have different strengths, but won't upgrade so freely]
Line 5 - starfighters [providing air support, no longer movable like before. Also, AA defense introduced in this line.]

Fourth Era - Bigbig era
Possible lines - Superweapons [death star, maw installation], stealth [commandos], piracy [introduces privateers?], force usership [jedi, obviously].

:curious:???

i'm impressed by the heavy postage in the 2 weeks i've been gone...

OK, here is a preview of the city screen... and since geocities decided to purge all my files, i've re-uploaded the first part of my interface again:
Interface 0.2(4.5MB) [It's easiest to right click and 'save target as' or whatever...]

The image quality is reduced for jpg format. I would upload more but this one gave me such a hard time i'm not gonna try.

gah i'm really starting to hate geocities... try it now

Alrighty I am done with the Galactic Republic's Tech Tree, Improvements, and wonders. All I need are the animations for the Venator Class Star Destroyer, and the Jedi Inteceptor. So if anyone is working on these please let me know. BTW I cannot create units.:( so if these units are being made or planning on being made I would like them. Thanks bunches.

Interface 0.21

There, i've finally got it in an accessible place... tell me what you think (i think 2 advisors aren't done yet in that one, but it looks a whole lot damned better than the previous one i put up)

Awesome! I remember poly was working on a Jedi Interceptor at one point, but I don't know what happened to that. Bjorn previewed a Venator like, 2 years ago, but he's really busy all the time, so I don't know if he'll ever finish it...

I love the interface, dude! It's great.
