I tell ya, the gameplay components in the artwork/gameplay trailer have the same 3D look and feel of Warcraft III

There was a starcraft easter egg in war III(in game terrian units fighting zerg), IMO it was pretty obvious that they started developing it way back then with the same engine.

though, to be honest, it would depend on the price. If sc2 is $60, i'm getting BTS.

Hmmm... tough choice. I would go for Starcraft 2 first though. (since i got Civ4 + Warlords for my civ needs anyway) It looks awesome

But argh! Need both! Give me both! Right now!

Looking at the poll after... would be interesting to see who picks what depending if they are multiplayer players or not.
(single player CiVer here, but multi player at heart )

starcraft 2 hands down. Civ4 is nothing compared to the original starcraft and if sc2 is anything like the original starcraft, it will blow civ4 out of the water.

Starcraft2. It looks like it will be the game I hoped for:
It won't have any heroes like in WW3, but much larger armies and Protoss, Zerg and Humans are going to be more different from each other than in the original SC.

I would buy BtS. Played some starcraft in my past, but got bored with it (never cared for single player, and multiplayer gets too repetitive; was a matter of who clicked the most; bounds and stuff were fun, but got bored eventually with those).

Starcraft 2 will have enormous sales when it comes out. The entire nation of Korea will camp out 1 week in advance in front of their stores to get the game.

Hmm this would pose a serious problem for me. Starcaraft and civ are my all time favorite PC games.I have waited for SC2 since I was fifteen. In fact the only reason I found about civ was I got tired of brood wars and decided to try out something new. I guess if it came down to it I would go for bts but I'm glad I don't have to choose one or the other in real life.

Starcraft was one of the best games ever made, in my opinion, and THE best RTS. SC2 for sure.

No contest, Starcraft 2! Although I'm sure BTS would be the better game, since it probably would have more interesting features and Blizzard is really just WoW LTD now, I'd have to buy it since Starcraft was one of the first PC game I ever played. That, and we've been waiting 10 years for it to come out

Maybe it was a subtle way of making people in the General Discussions aware of that fact that StarCraft 2 now exists.

Civ and Starcraft are two totally different types of games, so I'd have to go with Starcraft since Warlords could keep me satisfied, at least until I could save up enough for BTS and have both

The two games I have spent the most time in my life playing, in order, are:

1. Civilization II
2. StarCraft

If both were released tomorrow, I'd go for StarCraft II. I absolutely cannot wait to continue the storyline.

As a side note, if Starcraft 2 (not "II" because it's "techno") drops the realistic art gig (as opposed to the cartoon style of Warcraft since WC:O&H to WC3:TFT) then I will vomit at Blizzard for ruining that sole distinction.

What realistic art? take a look at the screenshots... number 2 looks exactly like 1 only in 3d.

Given the premiss of the OP I'd go for BtS - I enjoy a good RTS every now and then (especially the ones by Blizzard) but I've never known one to have the same insane replayability value as the Civ games. However, knowing Blizzard it will be a couple of years before StarCraft II p) is released yet - plenty of time to explore BtS and save up money for the computer upgrade a state of the art RTS undoubtedly will require.
