Status?

Damn! I keep forgetting that I've not posted the proposed city structure.

Poster above should be infracted for bumping a thread with his very first post in it. :mischief:

How's it going? Awaiting report. Good luck!:)

Unfortunately it doesn't look like I'll be continuing this venture. This will probably disappoint some of you, but this is no small or easy task to accomplish. Especially when there are no clearly defined goals/milestones in place.

It also doesn't help that no one is willing to move away from Civ3 and actually start using what's in place. Unfortunately every one wants to have a fully working version in place before using it, and I'm not going to spend my time creating some thing that may or may not be what people want and end up using it.

Give us deadlines, timelines, etc. and we'll be right behind you. Be as detailed as possible. :undecide:

Can't really see why you would need deadlines

Ok lets say for example you are the client, you come to me and say you want this awesome Civ like game that can be modded. And the first thing you need is an editor to create maps and some thing to enter game data/rules into.
I then go off and create what you wanted. After many weeks/months of hard labor I come back to you, you go off and use it to create what ever you want. You then come back to me and say we also need x, y and z, we also found these bugs....etc

:( Post #9 is , but I see what you mean. It's rather a chicken-and-the-egg problem... you don't want to invest the copious amounts of time required if what you have so far isn't being used, but modders don't want to target their mods for it when they don't know that it'll ever actually be playable as a game. And of course the fact that there are a finite amount of hours in the day is a huge factor as well. I've dabbled in civ modding tools enough to know that this would be no mean feat.

After posting this thread, http://forums.civfanatics.com/showthread.php?t=480633 it was apparent that people wanted to see the actual game playable, so I took the default rules of civ and started work on those, getting the AI to play the game. The AI would build it's first city and start building units/city improvements, scout/explore units would uncover the map, workers would improve the tiles and settlers would go and settle new cities.

I never got around to showing this off, not sure why.

---- Would hate to see IdieCIV to end. I spend 6-8 hrs a day on CIV3 Editor and text. I wish I could help, but i'm a useless case when it comes to IT. I can't even get your IdieCIV download to work :(

Thanks for your effort.
