@thom, I believe so...I am aware of the inaccuracies in the map and we are going to have to deal with them until a better alternative is provided. Storms map is the one I have chosen to use for now and I dont think it has the territories either...

OOC: Actually, I''m pretty sure Britain did not occupy the southeastern area of current-day South Africa in the 1860s, it was only around 10-20 years later that they started to take those lands. Those areas were mostly held by the Zulus, since the Zulu wars were not until the 1870s. I'm not taking British lands here.

Emperor Franz Josef Announces considerable reforms!
Emperor Franz Josef, King of Lombardy-Venetia, of Dalmatia, Croatia, Slavonia, Lodomeria and Illyria; King of Jerusalem etc., Archduke of Austria; Grand Duke of Tuscany and Kraków, Duke of Lorraine, of Salzburg, Styria, Carinthia, Carniola and of the Bukovina; Grand Prince of Transylvania; Margrave of Moravia; Duke of Upper and Lower Silesia, of Modena, Parma, Piacenza and Guastalla, of Auschwitz (Oświęcim) and Zator, of Teschen (Cieszyn/Český Těšín), Friuli, Ragusa (Dubrovnik) and Zara (Zadar); Princely Count of Habsburg and Tyrol, of Kyburg, Gorizia and Gradisca; Prince of Trent (Trento) and Brixen; Margrave of Upper and Lower Lusatia and in Istria; Count of Hohenems, Feldkirch, Bregenz, Sonnenberg, etc.; Lord of Trieste, of Cattaro (Kotor), and in the Wendish Mark; Grand Voivode of the Voivodship of Serbia etc. announced today the initiation of considerable reforms throughout the Austrian Empire.

Citing the recent death of Metternich as reasoning, the Emperor met with many princes and nobles from throughout the empire, most notably hungary, to discuss the future of the empire. Though the results of the meeting have been classified, the emperor announced various aspects of the reforms.

The majority of reforms appear to be centered toward education, with an extensive series of schools throughout the empire to be established. Also in his speech the emperor announced plans for an "advisory council" to keep him better in touch with the people, in order to hear their ideas and take suggestions from all parts of the empire.

Reactions were mixed, many conservatives critiqued the program as being liberal in intent, while many liberals criticized the moves as an attempt to gain power through placation of minorities. It remains to be seen what the effects of this are on the empire.

The Second French Empire does not recognize the Dutch Claims to Africa, and must state that she is against any illegitimate deposing of the Pope in Italy. The French Government would also like a response from Portugal. ;)

Very well. State your demands for reaching a mutually beneficial understanding between France and the Netherlands.

It does not matter, UK does not recognize the Dutch Claims. If anything we already have claims on the area in dispute.

Azale, here's the progress I've made on my map... should I continue? Also, can anybody draw a decent Switzerland? I have never been able to make Switzerland look even remotely like Switzerland on the Jason-et-al map, and that of course throws off the borders of Italy, France, and Bavaria. I think it has something to do with the water; the Danube and Rhone are wrong, and the lakes are a bit off, I think.

Storms map is perfect, I wouldn't bother to make a new one.

Nothing is perfect ;) especially when the maps can hold great detail and even greater mistakes.

And I like the Jason-ish map better.

Just be happy having most of North Africa as your loyal, paying vassal state ;)

Oddly enough, I like Alex as France as he's rather far away from me. In fact, I fear him less than if IP were France.
