stGMNES2: The Middle Ages

To the world
From Fatimid Caliphate
Our highest priority is surviving and expanding to the unknown world and educated them. We have a strong feeling against any country invading any other countries in the known world. Our current politicians thinks "barb mongol" is thread toward a peaceful world. As our professor in education says that a peaceful world is when there is a harmony among religious country as "Nabi Muhammad" once been helped by a christian (I think I read somewhere about it).
Our military has no enough power to make world peace, only towards MPP with other countries will bring peace to the world.

@To Abbasid Caliphate (Iraq)
From Fatimid Caliphate
We sees that we have currently a common thread, would u sign MPP with us?

@to Byzantine Empire
From Fatimid Caliphate
We have a fine incense, would u strengthen our country by trading it with your fine silk?

To Fatmid Caliphate
From Byzantine Empire
We would agree to such a deal.

Mongols
The Mongol were making havok in eastern Persia. Destruction and terror was brought to Persia. And this was only the beginning of their war against the Mongols.

Countries that existed behind Persia were rumored to call Mongols enemies and aggresors! Enemies? Aggresors? The Persian killed and destoried a present caravan that was sent to them! Their punishment is destruction. The Turks brought a suggestion of alliance against the Persians. The Mongols ofcaurse agreed, as long as the Shah himself will be in Mongol hands. The Turks also asked from the Mongols to stop killing Persians blidnly, The Mongols agreed to give Persians the ability to not be burned and killed.

From now on every city the Mongols reach they will ask it to peacfully surrender. If the population will agree the city will be speard, if the city will not agree it will be burned to the ground and half of it's people killed. Now each city will need to think right...

The whole Mongolian armies were moving in several directions from all directions into persia in a massive strategic dance that will destory Persia. While some Mongol armies stay behind to collect taxes from their older teritories and expand towards "Russia".

Mongols will destory Persia and annex their half and punish the Persian Shah.

Orders
As in story, leave some behind to collect taxes, most to attack persia and some to expand north as in map.
As always bank all economy and ask India to keep their armies in bay in case anyone decides to be stupied enough to attack Persia.

Sorry folks, due to technical difficulties, schoolwork, and the unfortunate need for my pitiful human body to consume food, update is postponed to tomorrow. However, I swear on my future children and my children's children that I *will* update tomorrow.

Get your orders in.

Orders PM'd

OOC: Grandmaster, my defensive wall for Constantinople is the 5th wall, not 4th, k?

Edit: Clear our ur PM box, Grandmaster...

Orders:
Contiue Wonder
Bank all money
Contiue pressure into Norway, attack with whole army, use same tactics as earlier.

You do not have to use tactics it's just I that want to as GrandMaster said it's easier to win then...

My tactics is based on what troops I use against his diffrent troops... Like if he (Norway) tries to counter with his crossbowmen I'll use Knights to crush them... Like that..

Orders:

- bank economy
- Focus on improving income
- With horse archers, expand into land between Mongolia and Russia
- With all Ghazis, and majority of rest of troops, along with siege equipment, pour into Persia according to the division with Mongolia proposed above.

Update 7- 1270 AD

Italy

Venice- The Venetian northern and southern armies meet in south-central Italy! Completing the massive pincer movement begun many years prior, Venetian troops from north and south have linked up, unifying the Venetian holdings in Italy. However, Sicilian forces, attacking at surprising points in the front, managed to regain some lost lands. After fighting a major sea battle (see below) the Venetians successfully landed a small army in Sicily. Meanwhile, in Serbia, a marriage occurs between a Venetian prince and a Serbian princess.

Sicily- NAPOLI OR DEATH! Such was the warcry of Sicilian soldiers as they made their final charge against the Venetian garrison in Naples. Risking nearly their entire force on the Italian mainland to retake the city, the Sicilians succeeded in overwhelming the defenders. Naples fell just as Venetian troops were completing their encirclement of the Sicilian troops. After sustaining heavy casualties in the charge against the fortified city, and in harsh urban fighting, the remainder of the Sicilian northern army is garrisoned in a pocket of resistance around Naples. This is the last stronghold of Sicily in central Italy. In the south, a well-organized amphibious landing northeast of Reggio di Calabria succeeded in capturing much of the (largely undefended) southern tip of Italy.

The Greatest Naval Battle in Modern History- With the Sicilian fleet ordered to sail to Reggio in its entirety, and the Venetian fleet ordered to sail for Sicily, the stage was set for a massive naval confrontation in the warm waters of the Ionian Sea. A total of 148 Italian galleys squared off in a melee that went something like this:

-The 100 Venetian galleys, arranged like an ancient Roman battle fleet, approached the eastern-moving Sicilian galleys from the east.
-The 48 Sicilian galleys approached from the west.
-A lookout aboard the forward-most Venetian galley spotted what he believed to be Sicilian supply ships in the distance.
-Shortly thereafter, a Sicilian lookout spotted the Venetian fleet, which he recognized for what it was. Flags were flown to warn the other ships in the fleet of the approaching enemy.
-The Venetians notice the flags as military signals, and prepare for battle.
-The Sicilians continue to approach on a direct path, heading straight for the closest Venetian ship.
-The commanding officer of the Venetian fleet orders his fleet to divide into three groups: the smallest group continues directly for the Sicilians, the other two turn at 45-degree outward angles and separate.
-The Sicilians close in; having unloaded their troops in southern Italy, they are lighter and faster than the troop-laden Venetian ships.
-The central group of Venetian galleys closes to within artillery range. The superior range of the Venetian naval weapons allows them to fire first.
-The Sicilians close to within artillery range. The central Venetian group closes on the Sicilian fleet; the two fleets enter into close combat.
-Several Venetian and Sicilian ships are lost to close-range artillery fire. The Sicilians are pinned in place by the close-in Venetians, who force them to exchange fire rather than maneuver.
-The two flanking groups of the Venetian fleet close in on the unprotected flanks of the Sicilian fleet. Unable to maneuver and bring their weapons to bear, many Sicilian ships are lost against the flanking groups. However, almost the entire Venetian central group is lost in the fighting.
-The surviving Sicilian ships flee and hide among small islands off the Italian coast. The Venetians continue on to land their troops in Sicily.

Venetian Casualties: 30 Galleys, 400 Swordsmen
Sicilian Casualties: 35 Galleys

Western Europe

France- Disgruntled by the Cordovans refusal to sell the Baelaric Islands, France has taken them by force. A sizable army, supported by the French Mediterranean Fleet, successfully invaded and captured the island chain. The Cordovans have vowed revenge. In happier news, a royal marriage has taken place between a minor princess of Flanders and the Prince of France, cementing the decades-old alliance between these two nations. Despite this, Flanders remains an economic battleground between France and England.

Burgundy- Signing an alliance with the Sicilians, Burgundy has attempted to regain its lost glory by invading her German neighbors. Concentrating her army on a very narrow front, the Burgundians pushed deep into the HRE in a bid to cut off Germany from Italy and divide the Empire in half. The attack almost succeeded, losing momentum just west of the Adriatic Coast. Failing to strike the crippling strategic blow they had hoped for, the Burgundians have not knocked the HRE out of the war.

Britain

Ireland- A joint Anglo-Scottish invasion of Ireland has nearly overrun the tiny island kingdom. The English army, supported by the powerful Royal Navy, landed near Dublin and quickly conquered the area known to the English as the Pale. In the north, the Scotts have successfully captured the region they call Ulster. The Irish, their government in disarray after the fall of Dublin, have fled to Cork in the west.

Eastern Europe

Byzantine Empire- Spurred on by their now-dogmatic belief that the Hungarians are allied with the Devil, the Byzantine forces fought fiercely to retake their lost lands in the Balkans. A northern thrust from Thrace combined with a naval assault cut off the Hungarian army in Walachia from supplies; while the Byzantines couldn’t finish the attack into Walachia, they succeeded in starving out the Hungarians, who were overrun by the Kievan Rus. The Byzantines have begun sending “diplomats” throughout Europe and the Middle East, supposedly to improve relations with foreign countries; however, these “diplomats” slowly beginning to report secret information back to the Byzantine court. However, it will be some time before this network is fully operational. Furthermore, the Byzantines have also been sending princesses out across the known world, marrying into the royal families of Serbia, Kiev, and the Tekishan Empire. With Venice also marrying into the Serbian royal family, things will get tricky… Meanwhile, the Byzantines make peace with the Tekishan Empire, swapping some borderlands in the east.

Serbia- SUCCESSION CRISIS IN SERBIA! Shortly after the marriages between the Princess of Serbia and the son of the Doge of Venice, and the Prince of Serbia and a Byzantine princess, the King of Serbia died of a massive heart attack (perhaps brought on the costs of these two imperial weddings.) Both the Doge's son, the inherited Prince of Serbia and Venice, and also the son of the Serbian King, the born Prince of Serbia, have claimed the throne; this has effectively divided Serbia between Venice and the Byzantine Empire in what could quickly become a violent civil war.

Scandinaia

Sweden- Continuing to put pressure on the Norwegians, Sweden has pushed Norway’s borders all the way back to Narvik. However, the old fishing city has been heavily fortified and is defended by the entire remainder of the Norwegian army.

Middle East

Mongols- Continuing their relentless pursuit of the Persian Shah and the officials who robbed the Mongol goodwill ambassador, Genghis Khan and his horde have pushed deep into Persia. However, word of trouble has reached the Khan from the east. Spurred on by diplomats (and gold ;) ) from an unknown source, the Song Empire of China has launched an invasion of the Mongol homeland. It is unsure how the Khan will react to an attack against his distant mother country.

Tekishan Empire- The Tekishan advance in Persia was slower than that of the Mongols, as the heavier Ghazi cavalry have a harder time navigating the rough terrain than do their lighter Mongol counterparts. However, the advances were significant; even more significant was a discovery made during the invasion. When the Turks entered Tabriz in northwestern Persia, they were actually WELCOMED by the locals; word is, the Persians were growing tired of their corrupt Shah and yearned for the glory the Tekishan Sultans had won during their war with Byzantium. This was further compacted by fear of the raging Mongols, creating one of the most unique diplomatic problems the Turks have yet faced: the Persian capital of Esfahan has surrendered to the Tekishan Empire without even seeing combat. The Shah has fled to Qom, an Islamic holy city in the northwest, hoping that the Muslims Turks will protect the city -- and him -- from the Mongols. Meanwhile, peace has been made with the Byzantines, securing a permanent Tekishan stronghold in the fortresses built by the East Romans to defend the Anatolia.

Fatimid Caliphate- The Fatimids have continued their southern expansion, sending a 300-horseman expedition south along the Nile. They have also constructed fortifications on their side of the Sinai, although nobody knows who they are meant to keep out, as an alliance has been signed with the Abbasid Caliphate. Furthermore, a new wonder has been begun, the “Great Islamic Library of Iskandria” which will seek to collect a copy of all the manuscripts and knowledge in the world. It is believed this vast collection of learning will draw the faithful from around the Islamic world to fight for the Fatimid Caliphate, and will also improve the education level and economy of the Caliphate.

OOC: Stats will be up shortly.
