Well, I'm already a bit late, and I'm going to drop out of this NES, at least temporarily. I'd rather wait for things to get interesting and jump in as an NPC. Sailendra is just too isolated.
The boy flees through the dense forest, flying throught the thick vegitation. He dashes left, ducking under a low branch, and stumbles towards a clearing. The young man crouches, hiding beneath the brush. He silently notches an arrow into his bow and takes aim at the deer standing on the other side of the clearing.
The boy pauses for a split second, catching his breath. It wasn't easy chasing the deer- if fact it was a nightmare. He had been tracking the buck all morning- he had nearly had him earlier but, due to a stray wolf, lost him in mere seconds. But the boy was sure he had the buck now.
He held his breath and aimed a little harder: bringing the buck into his crosshairs. And within another second it was all over; he released the arrow and dropped the animal with a well-placed shot. The deer fell to the ground, an arrow peircing its throat. The boy joyfully jumped up and ran towards his prize.
The buck wasn't anything special- by all means it was unordinary. It was - judging by the size of the antlers- very young. The boy knew the last winter had been tough on the animals, but the buck had appeantly experienced the worst of it and had thinned out. But still- meat was meat; food for his family. The boy immediatly set to work: it was fast aproaching dark and he was far from home.
"Sequoia!" The feminine voice called out; a blur of hair and hides before he was tackled to the ground. The boy laughed as he playfully messed his sister's hair up. Various heads picked up from their activities as they took sight of the boy and his prize.
"C'mon sister, help me drag this." The boy said smiling, indicating to the deer with a nod of his head. Together the pair carried the carcass through the village of Hontetlme.
The capital of the Hupan Condferation, like the nation itself, was an oddity. The village wasn't large- nowhere near the grand size of Miwok[1]- yet it was easily the most important of all the villages in the confederation. It was dairly small, consisting only of the actual Hupa tribe members, and occuping a space along the Seda's[2] banks. But the fact that it was the home of the Hupa was all that mattered. All of the individual chiefs were required to come to Hontetlme at least once every to years and speak to the Chief about ongoings in the confederation.
[1]Miwok- the city to the north of the capital.
[2]Seda- A goddess of the sea and what the Hupans call the river.
