stJNES8: Of Empires

We dont. But if they were to attack us from behind, which basically shouldn't have happend sinse you didn't even mention it in the update. You said we attacked them front on, and thier retaliation front on. You never mentioned them attacking from behind. ;) Two, if they did. Our spearmen would be BEHIND them, and we would be able to surround THEM.

In the dessert Camels have many advantages over horses or mules. They are more suited to travel long distances without having to eat or drink. In warfare camelriders have a big advantage over horses and chariots. Although they are slower, they are more clever and the camelrider can flee back in the dessert after he attacks his enemy.

Arabian clansmen always used camels for warfare, trading and for their monthly camelraces. The King himself has a excelent herd of the finest camels of Arabia and every clanchief has his own famous herd, too. But most camels can be found among the traders, who travel Arabia with their big camel caravans.

Orders:
-continue to guard Mecca and the Hyskos border
-build 500 militia spearmen
-new UU: Arabian Camelrider
-expand south peacefully
-found the coatal city of Jizan

The Great Spacetrvler loved to travel in his nation. On one such travel he spotted a man making the roads more comfortable. Upon asking the man a few questions, Spacetrvler figured out that this man thought alot about science and technology. He asked the man to come back to London with him, and the man agreed on one condition: his friends could come. Everyone of them was a genius in his own right. Spacetrvler gave the men funding for some contraptions that might solve problems that the nation had. After a few weeks, Spacetrvler thought that others should learn about this and put them into use. He called for one member from every tribe to come and learn how to make this contraptions. When they returned to their tribes with the knowledge they learned, many became a tribal teacher. In a few short months productivity of the tribes increased with the revolutionary technology.

Jason I would like to join. I will be able to post once every two or so days. However I would like yo have to give me permission to join and some ideas in a PM if possible on a great nation.

Also a quick run down on diffrences between this and stJNES4/5 would be great to have.

Rome

stJNES_8_Italy_flavor_map_31.jpg

Rome was makeing great headway, greatest power in the Itallic peninsula, Romes might was great, most cites joined Rome willinglly, wanting to take part in the might of an empire soon to be, though the Etruscans, who currentlly spereated the two portions of Roman terriotry were as indipendent as ever were, for the most part peaceful enough, though since thier own full unifacation is was rather obvious that some elements- mostlly the monarchies in Etrusca, wanted to march on Rome, they simply did not have the popular support- for with the exception of hostilites at the very beginiing of history books, Rome and Etrusca had, literally, been peacful brothers, tradeing an co-operating with eachother, not bickring like school children.

though on the capitolin hill, the great temple of Iupiter continued to be built, the radience and glory of the edifice growing more and mro eby the day, with each block of marble laid, the great temple seemed to shine with a new glory, and even its greatlly unconcstructed stage- literall only the floors ahd been laid, the staute carving- of the many lesser, man sized statues that would dot the complex, and of the great staue of Iupiter himslef that was to be the crowining glory ofthe entire structue brought many sighseers to Rome, to marvel at the wonder and genious of its construction...

but, while wishing to preserve peac with Etrusca, the Romans in other areas had been maeking great strides in the feild of war- the establish ment of the Legion system of military orginsation had come about, and to that end the army had been organised into Centuries of 100 men each, not including the 5 Officer sof each century (the Officer being the Centurion,Optio,Tessarius, Cornicen-orn blower, and the Signifer- standar bearer), the most prestious of the Centuries was the Primagenia, or firstborn. itr was thoerized, that the optimal streght for each legion was about 1000-5000 or 6000men, but Rome, having 1,500 men, had but strenght for less then one fully optimal legion, so it was decided that cohorts, groups of severla centuries would be fomed to act an admistative unit, and for m the base of each legion, and eventually, multiple maniples would be the sub-divison of th elegion, as a unit higher then a century, but not nearlly as large as the legion itself.

with the new division of the army came a new type of trooper as well- the so called "Triarii", formed of the veterans fo the militia, these were to be the creme of the crop as far as the legions (or perhaps legion singulaer would be more appropriate!) were concerned, for the time being at least- armed with a large spear, about 12 feet long, a sord, and dagger as side arms, a large, cruved Itallis sheid, and good armor, the Triarii was a force to be reckond with on the battlefeild

tri.jpg

Triarii- the new form of ass kicking

and with the new army reforms in tow, Rome had made great expansion in the north, icorperateing the largelly nomadic tribes of Northern Itallia into Roman terriotory, mover, to ensure that these people would soon become model Romans, they, as were the people of the cities, were given the rights as citizens, and many flocked to the new Roman city in the region, Aquleia, a city noted for its harbor, a good thing as well, for Rome had recentlly developed a flotilla of ships, each one filled with marines, who doubled often as rowers, to keep them strong and healthy, though when battle was eminent, paid workers insteand, most armed as well, would take over, so that the marines could save thier stregth for the upcoming battle.

exapansion too had occured in the south, but a most unwelcomed sight greeted the Roman settlers- a new nation, foreign from the Maceodniand and carthaiginas the Romans had grown so accustomed of,th eso called Phoencians had arrived with thier sights set on setteling Sicillia as well- to no end this infuriated the Romans, resetning that a far flung nation wished to settle land that was clearlly ther for if anyone, th enations in the area ot claim, such as Rome and Etrusca, or even Carthage, though they seemed more imposed to expand in the distand lands of Africa then in the lands of Itallia, though that matter little- what did matter was full Roman resnetment of the settlement of Sicilly, and even Sardinia to some extent, and it was thus that the Romans eagerlly conteacted thier close brethren of Etrusca, hopeing to forge an alliance in case Rome and Phoeciania came to lows over the lands of Sicillia....

expand equaly in all dirs.

House of Roddys IV
Rodyd the Third had spent his time as ruler of Roddyna growing his own personal wealth and largely ignoring the nation.
Roddy the Fourth had been a teacher priest for the first half of his life. He had largely ignored his father's failures as a leader of their people. The great nation his grandfather had built was stable enough to sustain itself and easily survived Roddy the Third's ignorance as a leader. When his father died, Roddy the Fourth donated his father's wealth to the national treasury to show the people that he would not be like his father, and would restore their faith in the Roddy Family.
He was not a military man, and so he could not make his nation greater by conquest, but he was an inteligent man, and he knew that a nation needed to be great inside to be appealing to those on the outside.
He picked out the smartest of his students and former colleages and stated a school in each of the major villages and towns of the Nation. The City of Roddyna had a large building constructed in it to provide further education for those who exceled in their local schools. The best tradesmen and smiths were provided with large workshops in the new college so that those students interested in any aspect of a trade could have a relieble sourse to get their information from.
The major streets in Roddyna and surrounding towns were covered in small stones which were then driven into the ground. This made the streets much more defined, and more importantly it made them very resistant to becoming large muddy puddles when it rained. Docks were built on The River (moscow river on the RL map, just "The River" in Roddyna) in the city of Roddyna and the two major towns up and down the river. This made it possible to use huge rafts to send things and people between the towns and made it possible for them to be quickly loaded and unloaded at their destinations.
A new bronze mine was built in the small mountain west of Berezka. This new sourse provided an abundance of the metal that made its domestic use much more common. Everything from from pots to statues started to be made from bronze instead of the clay used earlier.
With decades of peace in the nations recent history, the army had grown used to being not much more then diplomats to sell the concept of joining to villages and towns bordering the nation.

Aaminion, like I said, there is no real system to these things. If you try hard enough, they will come eventually.

Amirsan, deal with it. I am done debating it.

Sheep, I am sorry, but this NES has a limit since stJNES5 practically killed me with 28 players. The limit was 15, but I have let 18 join. I can put you on the waiting list though, so when IceEye gets a spot (ahead of you in waiting list) and then the player number drops under 15 again, you can have a spot.

To Banubians:

With help from Banubia try a new assult on Ubangia. Use whole army exept for 200 Spearmen to defend capitol.

to Rome:
We do not like threats. And Rome is not the country that will command Pheonicia. Only the great god of the sea Agidor will tell us what to do with the colonies.

to People in sicilian colony:
You are the one to choose between 3 things:
1) Stay Pheonicia
2) Become part of Rome
3) Become an independent country.
What that the people will choose will happan!

to Carthage:
We wish to make our alliance formal. A full alliance. If each of us is going to war or somone declears war on him the other must help. We wish this alliance to hurry because as we tallked Rome did became aggresive and wish to attack us...

a 4th option is that the territory may be seeded to Etrusca, though other then that, Rome thanks you for your co-operation

To: Carthage- Rome did not sirectlly threaten Phoenicia, we are simply protecting our interests in the region, as well we should as Sicillia is a door step into Italia itself

Erik had passed away only a few seasons after seeing his dream of the Outer lands settled. He was lucky. The next King was named Harold the Unlucky. All seemed well in his realm for the first part of his reign. The unification of Sweden was underway and they had already built two great cities. But then the Gods punishing the Vikings for their arrogance in thinking that they were the greatest decided to teach them a lesson in humility. It snowed, and snowed, so much snow everything was white. Not a speck of green or anything just white. There are accounts of people getting lost just walking to the field and back. It snowed and with that snow the hope and dreams of the Viking people were delayed for many years.

When the Long Winter ended and the snow thawed, the people saw how much damage the snow had done to the new city and its farms. With the industrious manner that had built the farms in the first place, the hardy Vikings rebuilt their granaries, cabins and replanted the fields. The first harvest after the long winter was small but the first in many more to come.

Harold also waged more campaigns against the people of the north of Sweden. Some tribes joined willingly after seeing the towns of Stockholm and Bondgårdarstad. Others can to be convinced with the sword and spear but were made to like their new country. Harold died soon after the last campaigns were fought. The people looked at him and saw a King that could’ve been great if were not for the gods but he did a good job of rebuilding Sweden and putting back onto its feet.

OOC: Jason, whats wrong with a flame-free debate. You havent heard my curse or nothing, I just want to understand. I spend time on my strategy and it seems you didn't read nothing and implemented nothing. I want to understand so this wont happen again. Telling me to deal with it wont help, if I understood exactly WHY my nation's orders werent used or seemed to be not used then I would stop asking. It becomes annoying after a while sinse this realy wasn't the first time. Maybe I should stop making strategy from the beggining and use that time better. ;)

and when is next update?

Protecting interests as it may be, the land was unclaimed. And to make a threat, even an indirect threat, is still an act of unprovoked aggression. Moreover, the land was unclaimed -- and as you had not made a claim to the land, to order someone off after they claim it does not seem just to us.

Let it be so. Our nations are both of a very seafaring peoples, so it natural for us to ally. We hope, however, that you will not lead us into wars we cannot fight.
