stJNESXX: The First Chapter

Wrong, good sir
It does not have
A dozen syllables;
At yours, I laugh!

:D
Twelve is nothing but a number
With which the verse you do encumber;
Long and short, heavy and light,
It's the weighting that makes things right;
Iambic feet in slow rotation
Mark the beats in poetic notation.

I must admit Command and Conquer Generals is more my style. I am kick arse at the Americans and GLO. Never good with the Chinese

Pretty words that you have said
Yet the verse before was lead
So while you have recovered your muse
It is still true that before, you sucked.

What, did you expect a rhyme? :p

In our debate, you may have the last word: sucked,
But it's Sheep that uses verses to get....

:mischief:

Starting the update.

And starcraft was jsut a blast from the past...i havnt played it in years. :)

since i have few orders, and the forums are going unbelievably slow, will have to finish this during the week (i have work, so its gonna be hard to do it all tomorrow, perhaps by wednesday).

BT orders:

I am currently on vacation, and should not be expected to do even this, but what the heck. :) Being a part-time NESer is hard work! JD still needs to reveal who wants to pay people for NESing, tho...

Expand navy. Settle the islands in the Bay of Otori (there is only one) and the Isle of Kï (the one strategically placed in the strait to the southern seas...) Try to assimilate the barbarians inthe west by introducing Furrian culture, alphabet and religion etc. I should have scrolled through the update again to look for what exactly, but it has been a while, and I am on a borrowed PC, so.

Will be home in about a week.

Now that you have started another NES, is this game going to continue?

Nope. Here is what I had so far, warning, its mostly about Ward.

Update 2
951-1800 by the Hurrian Calender

With iron weapons and a new classical culture, Neseria begins to blossom into the late Classical age, where empires are born, and civilizations mature.

**********************

First, we come to the modern Empire of Ward, the strongest and most vibrant of any civilization on earth. From its ancient history dating back to the conquests of the now forgotten Titians and Kinoites, whose legacy remains only as tools to the classical cartographer mapping the regions of Ward, the Kingdom of Ward has transformed itself from an absolute monarchy to a peaceful republic and finally into the modern Authoritarian Senate which resembles more of an oligarchy then a democracy.

With the ousting of the peaceful republic, the Senate set for war in the year 1000h. By then, the empire had a set boundary, with populations of Wardians stretching across the land, defining what it was to be a citizen. Those on the other side of the line soon also began to identify themselves with each other, first by being non-Wardians, and finally by uniting with each other, forming a state and an army. It was in the east where the Wardians would face a relentless enemy, an enemy that would drain the Empire of its resources and eventually cause the destruction of most trusted Senate.

But why would you want to hear about that? First we will speak of the northern conquests against the horse riders of the Temana Plains. Regarded as the barbaric scum of the north, the Temanan Riders wreak havoc on the Wardian soldiers, who still march and do battle in loose lines of swordsmen, chariots, and archers. Here in the north, the Wardians would learn to march in tight phalanxes using huge spears to block cavalry charge and in a sense become a moving block of death. Engineering themselves into a more effective fighting force here in Temana gains the Wardians huge swaths of open plains, of which many politicians in Ward believe useless and for the amusement of cartographers only.

But these politicians do not run the country. The Senate, though even after running the unpopular war in the north, is still loved for the riches they bring to the Wardian people. The Wardians enjoy a plethora of luxuries found no where else in Neseria. From the prosperous colonies of Lokal come precious ivory, used to adorn the palaces of the noblemen. From Temana come the marble that has transformed the Wardian cities into glistening white palaces. And of course lets not overlook the Wardian intellect itself, one that has built massive aqueducts, temples, bathes and palaces which are centerpieces of many a dozen cities.

But this luxury does come at a price. Lokal came under heavy barbaric attack in 1350, ending with the colonial army’s defeat and the sacking of the very large and very beautiful city of Lokal. After this surprise defeat, the Senate authorized the recruitment of a very large force that soon arrived to the damaged ports. From here, the campaigns of Lokal began, of which the new army gained fame for its desert tactics and its superb general, General Titus. Through cunning maneuvers and blatant disregard for the common military tactics of the time, Titus created an army of elephants and cavalry which served better then foot soldiers in the arid desert that defeated the barbarian hordes and established the new province of Desereta for the Empire.

And with the defeat of the Lokal barbarians, the Empire begins its two hundred years of prosperity and relative peace, where its new holdings are secured and the homeland builds up. Now, at 1600h, I bring to you the Wars of Coto.

The Lazoites had been a relatively peaceful group, part of the Lazo Highland stock that immigrated from somewhere in the east. These people came at about 1000h, and were nothing but builders and fanatical worshippers of Kromoism. The temples constructed by the Lazoites in honor of their gods are among the most impressive in the world, usually consisting of huge steeples, arches (a Lazoite invention adopted by the Wardians), and obelisks.

Despite their intentions, the Lazoites location was rather irritating to the Wardian Senate. Situated on both shores of the Trizo River, the Lazoites blocked the Wardian path to the luscious Black Forest and subsequent Kano Mountains with its intense iron, copper, marble and stone resources. It was decided early 1590h that war was the only way for the Wardian Empire to survive. And so the armies began mobilization.

Fortunately the Wardians had a problem of making everything public. With enough warning, Lazo was given the chance to prepare defenses, and defenses it did prepare. Being natural builders, the Lazoites constructed elaborate and stunning forts that really dominated the landscape. Each one nearly ten thousand square feet and with twenty-foot high walls, these fortifications were marvels in of themselves.

Nonetheless, the Wardian army struck, first in the middle of the forts under its new General, General Dominik. Dominik decided a three pronged attack, each attacking at different times, would throw the Lazoites off balance. And that did do just that. The Lazoite army still being fielded was easily routes and crushed under Dominik’s plan. Not only was Dominik a brilliant tactitioner, but he was also an inventor. During the siege of one of the southern forts, Dominik developed both the catapult and siege tower, helping in the destruction of the remaining forts.

Drained, however, of manpower, the Wardian general had to order a momentary halt in the invasion just past the forts in order to regroup. This unheard of tactic was believed to dishonor both Dominik and the Senate. In order to save face, the Senate had Dominik arrested, and later executed. The new general, Hazon, was an inept fool who knew not one book of tactics, and whom was merely the favorite of someone in the Senate. Having had time to regroup, the Lazoites reinforced their army while employing the aid of another new civilization, the Galamini from the north (who were of the same stock as the Lazoites, as well as a similar culture and identical writing system and religion). Together, this alliance stopped Hazon at the Trizo River.

In order to give the Wardian people a victory and cover up for the failure of the War of Coto, the Senate authorized a combined Wardian-Carnatian invasion of the Tiborites. Easily crushed, the Tiborite kingdom was divided between Carnatia and Ward.

After the defeat of the Wardian armies at the hand of a smaller numbered and less experienced kingdom, the Wardian Empire begun to stagnate. The defeated feeling led to a failing economy, and to the diminishing obedience of the army.

**********************

While their ally to the north dominated the land scene, the Carnatians in the south dominated the Inner Sea as well as the trade that occurred within it. This is not to say that the Carnatians did not see their fare share of wars that were fought on land. Retaining only a small professional army did make fighting land wars more difficult, but the degree of training and obedience this small army had made it fight like an army of tens of thousands.

It was when the Saminites were once again threatening the vitality of the Athelani that the Carnatians intervened, in 1000h. Athelan is a cornerstone of Inner Sea trade, who consistently lowers prices of its goods compared to their Saminite neighbors. With good relations and prosperous trade, the Athelani called upon the Carnatians to help against what would have been a complete Saminite victory.

Curses. I was doing quite well... :(
