Update 13 - 1200 BCE
Not long after the expiration of the Non-Aggression Pact, Byzantine armies invaded Dalmatia, from the south. The capital, Dubrovnik, was attacked but the Dalmatians managed to hold off the Byzantines. The Dalmatian army, though surprised, is determined to keep the city out of Byzantine hands, and have indeed fought valiantly across the rest of the Byzantine invasion front.
Not helping Dalmatia is the Roman betrayal of their centuries-old NAP. In the much-less-defended north provinces of the country, the Romans have all but swarmed over the sparse military regiments. An attempt by the Romans to land a force near the city harbor, however, was rebuffed. The entire Dalmatian navy went down after sinking several ships. The Roman troops did make it onto shore, but they were pelted with fiery arrows by the Dalmatian inhabitants and troops, and several contingents of Dalmatian troops managed to defeat the Roman force, killing many and forcing others to retreat back to the ships. Still, most of the Roman Navy, having been retrofitted with new Iron Age weaponry and thus superior to that of the Dalmatians, maintains a blockade of the capital.
ROME: -800 troops, -10 ships
BYZANTIUM: -700 troops
DALMATIA: -1,000 troops; -20 ships
Some Dalmatian peasants have begun packing their things and fleeing toward Dubrovnik to find refuge from the southbound Romans and northbound Byzantines.
However, things arent all nice and rosy for the attackers, either.
In the Byzantine Empire, the Slavic Senate has refused to pay their taxes toward the Emperor, have blocked the road between Dubrovnik and Leopolis, and have actively begun to block supplies that must go via the Slavland Province to the military. Some Slavic soldiers in the army have also begun to resist going to the front, and, since theyre stationed mainly in Slavland, are crucial in either blocking or opening the supply lines going through the province. The Slavic Senate has declared that they will end their protest once the Byzantine Army withdraws from Dalmatia and signs peace with pre-war borders.
Meanwhile, soon after word reached them that the Romans have broken their NAP with Dalmatia, the Austrians reasoned that they cannot be trusted, and have renounced their pact with Rome. The Austrian troops attacked the northern Roman provinces and have even attacked the Roman army invading Dalmatia from the behind! Though they have just recently refitted themselves with Iron Age military tech, the Austrians managed to deal a significant blow to the Roman effort in northern Dalmatia, managing to even liberate some of the border regions.
AUSTRIA: -300 troops
ROME: -600 troops
Of course, southeastern Europe is hardly the only portion of the continent that is seeing war for the first time. In western Europe, just past the Roman western frontier, the first war of continental western Europe continues. The combined forces of the Dutante Alliance have thrust through France and into the Portuguese-occupied territories. About half of the occupied areas have been liberated by the Dutante Alliance, including most of the French Atlantic coast. In only some liberated villages do the locals celebrate openly and enthusiastically in others, the villagers are ignorant of who rules them, because they figure that either way they have to pay taxes to one of the governments, and that it doesnt matter whether the tax collector speaks Frankish or Iberian. The more south of Paris, the stronger this ignorance is. For this reason, the southern French have not made any attempts at rebellion, with the occasional exception. In some places, the locals have even assisted in fortifying against the inbound Dutante assaults.
Naval battles have consistently been largely in favor of the Dutante Alliance. The Allied navy, led by the powerful Irish fleets, has been able to either defeat or force into retreat all the Portuguese naval vessels, still un-upgraded, they came into contact with.
Still, a lot of the Portuguese army has been diminished by the allied assault.
PORTUGAL: -2,000 troops; -105 ships
FRANCE: -250 troops
BELGIUM: -600 troops
EIRE: -700 troops; -50 ships
Portugal has not fared well in the war with the Fez Sultanate, either. Disconnected territorially from the rest of the Portuguese Morocco by the rogue country, the southern parts of the colony have effectively fallen away from the Empire, and are again independent as they were prior to the Europeans colonization.
On the battlefield, meanwhile, the Sultanate has managed to press substantially northward in its counterattack against the Portuguese. They have almost reached Tangiers. Luckily for Portugal, though, the Berbers in and around Tangier have already largely accepted Portuguese rule and no longer are the Europeans hunted by mobs of Berber priests and mystics. Therefore, these Berbers, when encountering the Fez armies, have not embraced them with open arms and have instead turned around and left towards Tangier. Its looking like only Tangier will remain Portuguese-controlled unless the leader of the Iberian country gets his stuff together and mounts a definitive counter-attack.
PORTUGAL: -500 troops
FEZ: -450 troops
Meanwhile, a daughter of the Dacian Emperor married one of the sons of his Byzantine counterparts, and at the wedding, the personal union of the Dacian and Byzantine Empires has been announced! (See below for details on what a personal union is and how it differs from full vassaldom)
Not long after the announcement of the union, the Magyars who had terrorized the Crimeans have invaded Dacia. Still licking its wounds from the Slavic uprising which decimated its military ranks, Dacia was not able to mount effective defenses. Luckily for them, the Magyars have not made thrusts to conquer southern Dacia. Instead, they have settled in the northwestern frontierlands of Dacia, and have themselves invaded the Dalmatian-controlled area their side of the Danube and part of southern Slovakia. They seem to be contented by this area, which they are calling Magyarorszag or Hungary and seem intent on making it their new homeland and defending it. But perhaps they are plotting to invade further countries? One thing is for sure: Crimea is more than happy, since the occupying Magyars have left their country.
DACIA: -150 troops
SLOVAKIA: -100 troops
DALMATIA: -100 troops
Yet another new religion has sprung up, called Demosism. Originating in the Australian Commonwealth, it has spread quickly to Papua, Maoriland, and Perth. It is a faith that emphasizes the righteousness and significance of freedom, free will, and equality. It is much more politically-oriented than the nearby Balism. Perhaps these two faiths will clash soon? Or maybe they will actually find a way to cooperate together and blend into each other?
Israelite attempts to annex Arab-populated regions have resulted in renewed conflict with Arabs. Though some land has been gained by Israel, the surrounding Arabs are actively defending and demanding that Israel leave them be.
Explorers have made contact with Nubia, Ethiopia, Crimea, Dacia, Yemen, and the far-off country of Fez. A colonization party had not reached the land called Somalia, however, due to supply shortages that caused the need to return to Israels nearest port.
In Georgia, Jewish priests have begun converting people to Judaism.

What is a Personal Union:
1. Two countries get common foreign policy, but still are separate territorially, economy, militarily.
2. If between human-controlled and NPC, the human-controlled nation is the dominant player in the union. The other is a semi-vassal.
3. Unlike vassals, the members of a union can refuse to declare war.
4. Unlike vassals, the members of a union can actually choose to dissolve the union (its upper classes and dominant administrators can decide that the arrangement is no longer profitable).
5. If between human-controlled and NPC, the human-controller can do orders for the other member, but the NPC member can not follow some of the orders. (Full vassals actually are much more compliant).
6. Personal unions CANNOT occur between human-controlled nations. Reason for this is that, as stated above, one of the partners in this is really a dominant partner. While having humans in union might cause for some interesting wars due to different interests, I think it would get too complicated because they might want to start making decisions for the other human, which would get confusing.
7. An NPC-union-partner cannot be taken over by a new incoming player. Only if/when it chooses to dissolve the union does it become up for grabs for anyone who wants to join this NES.
8. You cannot just say, after having gotten a personal union with some country, I want to make it my vassal now. just to make it more compliant. Doing so will result in severing of the union and possible war.
Lord_Iggy, I didnt put make Kuala Lumpur a trade center as one of the effects of your project because you currently do not have even a single trade route going via KL.
Israelite, cant increase economy AND start trade routes. I may have forgotten that before a few times but now Ill remember it more.
