I think Russian. Sound like it atleast. (don't know Russian, but let's say I hear it a lot...)

Well, the Xerox language identifier says that it is Croatian, though it may be Slovenian.

Shorlty after visiting Cyprus, Sardis had heard the news. From the east there had been discovered another crucible of civilization.

These people were different from both the Lydian and Phoenician people. They had just waged a war against the highky warlike Spartans, a one in which they emerged victorious but expended in many departments.

At first the Athenians, as they called themselves, nearly sunk the boat that reached them full of fisherman. But at the last second they noticed and beckoned the ship to port. They met and talked about each others nation, and when news slipped to Sardis he just couldnt resist going over there personally. This time in a ship of REAL Lydian proportions.

Sardis's journey to Athens to be continued...

Orders
- continue wonder, Lydian Naval Academy (makes Lydia the naval equivalent of Sparta,+3 naval increases) (2/?)

- increase economy by openeing trade with new civs
- leave Crete, send the men stationed there to help settle Southern Anatolia

- expand north along the coast with 500 men
- expand south along the coast with 500 men
- expand inside Anatolia with 500 men
- keep 500 men in mainland Lydia

Yes, see, do what he's doing. Turn in orders. Front page is going to be completely fixed in 10 minutes. I already gave Germany an extra 2 economy levels for their wonder.

The war against the Mori had gone well. The upstart warlord of the gaijin had been defeated and killed in battle. His cities had been burned. However, one thing remained of the Mori state-- infrastructure. The Mori, barbarians though they were, had irrigated their fields well and had also built a small road system in their region of the island. Controlling such pre-built infrastructure would be a boon to Japanese expansion and the economy. So, standing in the great hall of his new palace, Yamato ordered a second expedition west-- not to conquer, but to settle. Two settling parties would be sent to the sites of ruined Mori towns, and their they would build great cities that would project Kyoto's greatness. The city built atop the ruins of the Mori capital would be known as Kobe. Here the people would raise cattle that would help feed the other cities and would fuel population growth. The city farther west, at this time just outside Japan's borders, would be called Hiroshima, and it would become a major port city for sea trading. "Yes," Yamato thought to himself, "these cities will make Japan great. However, I cannot neglect Kyoto. The city must continue to grow." Yamato also noticed that the garrisons of Kyoto were thin. Campaign against the Mori had cost him 200 good men. They had to be replaced. He sent the call out to recruit strong men from the countryside. The army would grow.

Orders:
-Continue to build the infrastructure of Kyoto. Strenghten the walls, and build a grid of roads throughout the city. These roads are to be wide enough to accomodate 6 lanes of carriage traffic, 3 in each direction, and are to be paved with stone and lined by cherry blossom trees. Build also a large grainary to hold food for the city.

-Send two large settling parties, complete with engineers and others needed for city-building, to the sites of Kobe and Hiroshima. Expand south to incorporate the land needed for Hiroshima. Expand north as well, passing the Tokugawa by way of the open land in their west.

-Grow the army by recruiting men from the countryside and also by recruiting defeated Mori soldiers who would be loyal to Japan.

-Standardize the army. The standard Japanese soldier will now be like this:

-Armor: Bronze chestplate, backplate, upper-arm plates, upper- and lower-leg plates. Bronze chain mail shirt and pants. Thick but flexible leather gloves and boots. Bronze helmet. Quilted linen padding under mail shirt.

-Armament: Spear with hardwood shaft and bronze tip. Shortbow with hardwood shafted, bronze-tipped arrows. Bronze wardarts with poison-coated tips. Shield with wood on the external surface and bronze in the back.

-Age and Gender: Male, between 17 and 22 years old.

"The land is simply beautiful. Ripe for the picking. The land is fertile and sparsely inhabited. The citizens have all heard of the glory of Rome and its conquest of the old regional power that was Naples. I would venture to say that they want Rome as their leaders."

-Roberto Benocali, Southern Expedition Leader

"Sir, plans are going well and running smoothly. The Lombardians are not ready for an invasion by us as well as the Etrurians. Together we number 2400 to their 2000, also our 800 troops are better equipt and better trained then them and worth about twice as much. If we were to split their empire, the part near Etruria will fall with much ease. In addition their empire will begin to collapse and many of their soldiers might desert seing that they are fighting a losing battle. I urge that you do send reinforcments."

-Maximus Grecus, General of First Legion

ORDERS:

Send settlers south along with a 200 troop guard to build the city of Tarentum and colonize the southern parts of Italia
Invade Lombardia with 800 troops, drive through the center of the Lombardian empire. Once the nation is cut in two head east and seige the city.
Increase army and send it north into Lombardia to reinforce legions there already

The conquest of the eastern barbarians was a great success for the Mauryans. They had gained many slaves, which could be used as workers in the great Mauryan Empire. Pataliputra was growing and the economy was running well too. During this time King Chandragupta decided that the Mauryans should start settling to the south and west. The King planned to shield the Indian-subcontinent from the barbarians from the North. He gave bonuses to settlers that wanted to build their huts in these areas.

Orders:
-expand west and south
-grow army
-keep building the wonder

Erie was growing quick, and the king was happy. But he had gained some new fears: he had heard scary stories about nations living beyond the sea. Northeast, that was where he had heard them live. "So that is where we must expand, to ensure that other nations don't come to our island!" he yelled, and so it was done.

ERIE
ORDERS:
Expand towards north with the entire army.
Grow economy by building roads.
Continue the Newgrance wonder.

The Khmer had reached the beautiful, bountiful sea. The sea of prosperity and abundance as many called it, was chock full of pristine waters and delicious fish. No more foraging for food in the jungle. A new age had reached the Khmer people, and they were happy.

ORDERS:
Continue wonder
Expand in all directions
Grow economy through fishing

The beautification of Gdansk has been a tremendous success. Even more people flocked to the magnificent city. The Polish szlachta and the peasantry wanted Gdansk to become the capital of the Imperium so that its beauty can be boosted with the graces of the imperial Palace and imperial family. Noone wanted forest-surrounded old Poznan to be the capital. As much as people seemed to dislike the current capital, many of its remaining residents cling on to it - this was not only their birthplace, but also the country's birthplace. Without a Poznan, there would be no Poland.

Emperor Casimir II pondered a capital change. He had been in Gdansk numerous times, and he loved it there. He had even built a large vacation palace on one of Gdansk's numerous beaches. His grandfather was wise in ordering the laborers to beautify the port city. After a while of deliberation, Casimir finally decided to go through with it. Crowds celebrated as Gdansk was made the capital of the Polish Imperium. However, Casimir also began to fear that a mass exodus from Poznan may occur if Poznan is not made to look more beautiful.

Also, movement towards the east would have to continue. Rumors have been circulating of yet another nation towards the east. Casimir thought that there was a possibility of a healthy relationship with them, if they indeed did exist, but on the other hand, they could seriously hamper Poland's expansion efforts. But for now, those are just rumors - who knows what kind of uncivilized madman could have conjured up such fairy tales? From the new palace in Gdansk, Casimir ordered Polish people to move more eastward, toward the river called "Wisla" and to establish a city once they got there. It would be called "Warszawa" - in honor of the Slavic God of War - Wars - and the Slavic Goddess of Rivers - Sawa. (Note that this is not true at all - I'm just making this up).

Orders
Make Poznan a little more beautiful so that people don't abandon it.
Make Gdansk the new capital of Poland.
Continue the Great Shipyards of Gdansk in Gdansk (Effect: 15 galleys).
Continue making Gdansk even more beautiful so that people coming to Gdansk can marvel at the grandness and majesticness that is the Polish Imperium.
Use the entire Army to eastward toward modern-day-real-life Warsaw. Build a city there called "Warszawa" (or just call it Warsaw. whatever). However, once they get to Warszawa, they shouldn't just stop there - keep expanding east/northeast.
Increase Army by 2000 troops (cost 2 economy levels).

Edited orders and erased the OOC message since its fixed now.

SRIVIJAYA

Bolts of sunlight pierced the calm waters off Kali Tanjungkarang. The fish danced between the sea grass as a fin stealthily stalked. Faster, faster the shark closed in... stealth broken. The little fish knew its fate, lunch. The jaws of the monster opened, giant gnashing teeth. Moving ever closer, flash of fin, gleam of a black marble of an eye, would not be long now. A dark ray plunged into the now turbluent waters. A cloud of blood now expanded and dissipated. Pulled out of the waters with a large hook, the large fish would feed Gajah's family for a week. Gajah was a fisherman from Tarahan, just outside of the town of Semarang.

Tanjungkarang, the site of Jayanása's Summer Palace, was home to the newly built Royal Shipyards, and soon to be home of the Royal Fleet. Java was becomming to be firmly under the control of the Srivijaya, only a few principalities on the East and West needed to submit to total rule under the King of Srivijaya, their tribute was already pouring in, spices, fruit, fish and even precious stones. And with that, Srivijaya built great monuments to her gods and her King.

In the Monestary of Kramasan, just out of the capital, Riska offered up a sacrifice to Teten, the god of the wild jungles and forests. His giant jade statue peered between two colulms out into a jungle sunset, the fragrant smells offered up to the god permeated the air and the trees seemed to glow with a sort of magical power. Teten, the great monkey god of Sumatra and patron god of Palembang.

Orders:
Begin Temple of Teten in Palembang.
Attack outlying principalities that refuse to give tribute to Jayanása.
Grow naval forces.
Establish the city of Tanjungkarang.
Launch ships and establish a colony in Java.
