Since when in an NES did players dictate their starting size? :p

Wanted to know, because it was for a story

Wanted to know, because it was for a story

Something tells me asking for a gigantic fertile piece of land is NOT the way to get it....

In fact, you're bound to have more competition now :p

I'll be sure to jam pack the Fertile Crescent with NPCs now. :p

Make me the smallest then! All the more fun to wipe them out!

Hopefully here:

BT Update 1

Dawn Of Time

Years 2000 BCE - 600 BCE

Introduction

Human civilization is a remarkable thing. It is ever-changing, and continually progressing. It can make the world aurond it, or leave it in chaos. Today, we might think of it being infinitely complex, and old. But at a time, civilization was just begining to form together. This is that time.

We will now take a look at the Dawn Of Time, and the birth of recorded human history.

Americas

A place that is worlds away from everything else, the American contients aren't nearly as populated or as large as the Old World, but they have their share of stories.

Singodia, a young nation nestled in the tropical jungles of Old Mesoamerica, is a newly formed nation. The Raykund line of Cheiftan helped form the small family tribe of hundreds of years ago into a small Mesoamerican city state. There are many just like them. What will seperate them from the rest? Only time will tell.

Just a stone's toss away from Singodia is [1] Kintyre. This nation does not have a long, glorious family line. They merely took advantage of a weak, larger state, and rose to power through blood and violence. They are warriors at heart, and must have slaves to work their fields. In order to keep expanding, they must counqer. And counqer they will.

Mesoamerica [2] is an intresting place. There are many small tribe-states, and wanting to counqer one another. and control the whole of the area. Only through sheer determination and power will a tribal state realize their goal.

Western Europe

Across the entirity of the Atlantic Ocean, lies Europe. This place is much more populated and more ahead of the times, so to speak, than the Americas. There are many small states, kingdoms, and maybe even an Empire or two.

Valencia is a bustling trade nation. One of the few nations which is more based on the sea, than on the land. Sailors at heart, they control the Baleric Islands as well as the bustling trade center of Valencia. Their port is visted by all states which can field a ship. They don't have many enemys, as they are far enough away from others, but close enough to trade. Their ships can make a promising future for the nation.

Carthage and Corsica are East of Valencia. Carthage controls a large tract of land in Northern Africa. Their army is pretty large, and the competition on their area is very small. The Corsicans are sailors only rivaled by the Valencians themselves. It is a nescessity, for they live solely on the islands of Corsica and Sardinia. For now at least.

The Dominion of Sicily lies on the island of Sicily. They were originally a small city in the south of Sicily. The Tarentians had set up many cities on the island. Over time, the Dominion of Sicily took theese cities by force, and established rule over the whole of the island. They field an impressive army and a small navy. Their capital of Maelstrom is also in a prime position for trade, although this position isn't paticularly taken advantage of.

Italy

Italy is a land of many kingdoms. In total, there are 7 fledging kingdoms on the Italian penuisla, all wanting to rule it all. The competition will be fierce, and only the strongest will rule.

In the Southernmost part of Italy, there is Calabria. They are one of the few nations of Italy to bother with a navy. They can also take advatage of their penuisla and turn it into a defensive position. To the northest of them is Tarentum, the longtime enemies of Sicily. They field a large army, but a tiny navy, as it has all but been destroyed oh-so long ago by the Sicilians.

The tiny state of Campania is wedged between Pescara, and the sea. They control only their capital, and a small area to the south. North of them is Pescara, the largest and most powerful of the Italian states. They have detatchments of cavalry and experienced swordsmen. They have already counqered the old city of Foggia, and are poised to counqer more.

West of them are the Romans. They are unique, for they have long only ruled their large city of Rome, but have led succesful campaigns in the last 20 years to take Latina. They have established the language of this city as their people's language. The Tuscans to their north have long been their enemy, and the Pescarans long to counqer the Romans, for they are the only ones strong enough to resist their influence. Rome will not give up easily, and if to destroy it's enemies, it will need allies first.

In the North of Italy is Tuscany and Ravenna. Both moderately powerful states, they have the semi-civilized Italics below themselves, and the fericous Gauls. Will they survive the competition from the Italics and the Gauls of the North?

South Eastern Europe/Palestine/Egypt

Immediatly East of Italy lies Greece, the land of Empires. For there are 2. The Twin Kingdoms of Athens-Sparta and Thebes to the North.

Athens and Sparta used to be sperate states, until recently. The Spartans invaded and obliverated the Athenians. They have been under their direct control for an extremely long amount of time, but recently have gone virtually back to their old ways, only in that they will come together for mutual defence, and are ruled by the same king, which may be Athenian or Spartan. This kingdom is the strongest in the entire world. The Spartan hoplite formation has never lost a battle, and the riches of Athens and her fearsome navy makes for an impregnable empire.

The Thebans to the north are really the remnants of the other Greek states, and the civilized Macedonians, rolled into one. They have long been enemies of Sparta-Athens, but only have enough power to defend themselves, never braving an attack into Sparta-Athens. They will need to find help to bring the power balance back to Greece.

East of the Greek mainland is Asia Minor. The largest state on the Anatolian coast is Troy. There are 3 others, Phokaia, Mylassia, and Illionios. They are all breakaway colonies of Athens. Centuries ago, Athens controlled all of Western Anatolia. When Sparta invaded and took control of Athens, they intially didn't have the navy to also maintain control the colonies. So, one by one, they broke away from the then defunct Athens, and established their own states. Over many years, the strongest 4 took control of all the others. They have come together once for mutual defence when Sparta-Athens invaded. They destroyed almost every city controlled by the nations, but the Hittite barbarians came in and destroyed the Spartan-Athenians. The states now fight and bicker among each other. Would they be able to catch a lucky brake if Sparta-Athens invaded once more?

South of Anatolia lies Cyrencia in the west, West of Egypt. The state is nothing more than a few barbarian tribes banded together for protection. It could be something much more though, if the right ruler was in charge...

The land of Egypt is the oldest in the world. It is legend that many centuries ago, Egypt controlled the world. What we do know is, only 100 or so years ago, the Nubians came up from the South Nile and counqered the last of the old, overstreched Pharoatic dynasties. The Nubians have by now turned Egyptian themselves, only keeping the bare mininium of their customs. South of the Nubians, lies the new dynasty of Eur. Maybe they will take the Egyptian homeland?

West of Egypt lies Palestine. In the North, the Sidionians are mainly farmers, owning large tracts of land. Although recently they have been threatened by barbarian tribes, and are up in arms. South of them, is the new state of Tyre. They are a seafaring people, and have sailed far and wide. It is only time before Tyre becomes great, like Crete, or Alexandria. They take advantage of the fertile land in their area.

South of Tyre is Zyle. Little is known about theese people, except they didn't come from this area, much like how the Nubians didn't come from Egypt. The Zylians are major producers of bronze and copper, and it is said their smelters are creating different types of metals constantly. Because of this, their weapons are the most advanced in the world, although their land is very arid, so the population is very sparse.

Mesopatamia

Babylon is a land of war, war, and some more war. There are 4 large states on the Euphrates and Tigris Rivers. Babylon, Assyria, Ellippi, and Ur.

The strongest of theese is Ellippi. They control most of the West bank of the Euphrates, and their city of Turdek is a bustling center of trade. Their armies are mostly chariot and archer based. They are excellent at marine warfare, because they have to invade other nations by crossing the river. Ur is located to the Southeast of Ellippi and controls the mouth of the Euphrates and Tigris rivers. They are mostly farmers, only fighting to defend themselves, but when they do fight, their spearmen are the best in the land. Babylon, sandwiched between the Tigris. and the other 3 states, has the best archers and is begining to employ horsemen. The Babylonians are fastly expanding, and they are eying the city of Turdek, for its prime location and riches. The Assyrians have the best chariots, and may not have to fight the other Mesopatamians, for they have unclaimed fertile land to their North.

The warrior race of Medes lie on the East bank of the Caspian Sea. If they succeed in raising large amounts of horse warriors, maybe they will be able to counqer Mesopatamia?

Ethiopia

Axum is the only vestige of civilzation located South of the Medettieranean Sea. It takes land by passive negiations mostly, and of building up their wealth as a nation, to make neighboring tribes envy them, and thus join them. Although, the neighboring tribes are becoming more fierce, and they may have to go up in arms soon. The Axumites land is very enviable indeed, even compared to nations abroad, the growing season is perfect, the beautiful rolling hills... It's only falt is being so far away. Is that a good, or bad thing?

[1] This name is weird. I would really rather have you change it to something more Indian sounding. :p

[2] Mesoamerica is much more heavily populated at this time than in OTL. Also, the natives are only 200 or so years behind the Europeans, not up to 1000 as in OTL.

I will have stats up by the end of today, my time (before 10pm PST)

lurker's comment: You forgot to erase the CZ in South America. :)
