Game: Civ 2 without MPG on a MAC

Diety AI , normal map , 7 Civs , Raging Hordes.

In the Customize rules section it has this option:

" Don't restart eliminated players "

A. What are the Pros & Cons of doing this ?

B. How popular an option is this ?

Do most people do this, Or just on certain levels or styles of play ?

We do not want get several days into a Deity Game and

find that only a newbie lets the AI restart eliminated Civs.

We always thought that Max Civs meant Max trade but having

always destroyed the 2 or 3 Civs closest to us early in the Game

without the restart it seems there would be much less chance for trade.

On the other hand having the Zulus coming back as Russians

is something we could live without.

well consider that for civ3 the poll showed most people wanting ALOT more civs playing at the same time:

is it likely people would turn this option on? I always play with restart civs...why? the more opposition the merrier!

moof,

I read one strategy for High Score game which suggested to turn off re-start. Given the effect this may have on trade, and maybe even Tech Gifting (unless you play purple), I'd agree with kittenOFchoas and leave it on. (But then, k'O'c frightens me so, naturally, I'd agree

).

In a pre-made map, the same colour civ's start in the same general area (I think

). So you can knock 'em off in quick succession. Also, when they restart their even more pathetic than normal!

Which leads me to wonder if Civ 3 will have "Vassal States" or "protectorates". Could be fun, especially with 16 civs at once!

But you know

I frighten you ´Bor´...cool!

I've noticed that the re-started civs usually just come back in the most remote area relevant to other civs in the game... Maybe not alway the place I'd choose to put them... But usually on a remote island that speople haven't discovered yet or at the bottom end of a continent that hasn't fully been explored yet...
Far cry from Civ1... where they used to pop up in the middle of my civilization area and build a city thats half on my squares...

Do you get some kind of bonus for turning the option on?

No bonus directly related to scoring. However, depending on when they are reborn a Civ that restarts usually has a slew of techs and is very weak.

I haven't really explored that too much, as it means saving and using cheat mode to reveal the map, which takes away from the game for me.

I did have one game where two Civs were on my main continent, so I killed them both, about 15 turns apart. Both of the reborns were later found and shared a continent, but both of them had grown bigger than any of the original comp civs that were around.
