STR-01: The Scorched Lands

Of course we will. A victorious end this time!:king:

BTW: Please include some screenshots in your game report, to make it more entertaining and easy to follow for the lurkers, as they don't play the game themselves.

Stay tuned fellow scorchers, for the next exciting installment inculding, yes that's right, screenshots!

Should play and report in about 10 hrs time.

Just wanted to have the lurkers using their imagination a bit

Would you believe the dog ate them? Hmph, well then no imaginative excuses for you! :p

Playing now.

Righty-o then:

T0 - Quick scan over. Plenty of longish build times in queues. Few spots I can get a settler or two happening shortly though. :p

T1 - Grocer @ Beshbalik started, I tweak for extra growth here trading off a few turns on the grocer.

T2 - Settler @ P-Fury, only 5 turns, sweeeeet. Judasism here now too, temple and monastry needed soonish too. Bank @ Samarqand.

T3 - Forbidden Place completed, start Colosseum @ New Sarai now. Get lucky and pop copper on existing mine @ Karakorum.

T4 - Theatre @ Straussburg (why is that name familiar? ) Happen to notice that our next GP is due at 300 points? :crazyeye: Umm why don't we use P-Fury and get some lightbulbed techs? :smoke: Dial up a couple of scientists without slowing settler. Next GP will likely be an artist due in a few turns. Notice new barb city and divert some troops that way.

T5 - Settler @ Karakorum

T6-7 - Whittle away at Illinois....

T8 - Illinois is razed. Good potential city site; copper, cows, rice and ivory in BFC.

T9 :coffee:

T10 Gandhi offers gold for rice. We need happy right now, so yes thanks. Harbour @ Turfan, though as Judaism is here now, so temple and monastry next I suggest. Got expected Great Artist, tech offered is Monotheism (currently a 1 turn tech  ) I'd suggest that we get Monotheism and Theology next after finishing Education and see what lights up then. Maybe also Philosophy. (1, 4 and 5 turns repestively each at the current 60% research rate).

Note that we have a nice $$$ balance, going up to 70% wasn't viable early on and later didn't cut any time off education. Might be worth it now though!

State of the Nation:

Strauss is up. I could play tomorrow or maybe thursday else not before next week.

Great turns anyway Kanga. I know that Straussburg is not new. But I liked this invention. We need more such names. If we're not gloriously big we at least can have gloriuos city names :king:

Using the GA for a tech seems logical. I thought about researching some religious techs away. I think it will be important if we want to invest the GA on something useful.

Our balance looks reaaaaallly great! :) The first time in our game, what do you think? ;) Forbidden Palace anyway came way too late. We could be much further in tech if we haven't missed it for such a long time.

Go on Strauss :hammer:

Kanga's Lair was founded in 1754 AD, on the site Kanga pointed to as his final wish.

In 1756 the Mongolian people learned the art of 'Education', and started building Universities across their Empire. Our scientists, intrigued by the teachings of Judaism, started on Monotheism.

Also in 1756 the bastard Gandhi founded Pune on the site where I was sending our 2nd Settler. I redirected him to a site south of the city. It's still a decent site, but will need some work (as in jungle clearing).

In 1758 AD (turn 4) we research Monotheism. Our GA can now research Theology, still not quite worth it. I could start on Theology/Philosophy to gain a new tech from the GA, however I decide to gamble on Economics, in order to trade that to Julius for Theo and Phil. Research will take 7 turns, so I hope Julius concentrates on military techs and doesn't research Economics yet.

Blastoid's Tomb was founded in 1762 AD (turn 6). As I said, it still needs some work before it's fully functional. In the meantime I also start on some Jewish missionaries in PVBLIVS Fury so that we're ready when we get Free Religion.

Since then not much has happened. Economics is 1 turn away and Julius doesn't have it yet. Let's hope he's willing to give us some nice techs for it. Also remember that switching to Free Market is obligatory according to the variant rules.

Also, Rome and Persia are still at war and Julius took Tyre during my turnset.

Great and fast progress! Two new cities!!! I think we cannot afford more than one or two more in the next decades. I think we should aim for those floodplains to achieve a new great commerce city. Anyway it will be hard work. The progress of Ghandi still is hard to even keep up with. We're not too far away from Caesar anymore though. So we should continue to gamble (at least for techs that are worth it).

I've got it and will try to play tomorrow or on Thursday.

Happy soccering everybody this evening ;)

Quite a calm set of turns. Though many things happened. First some historian writes a bad book that is saying somewhere we would live in a mediocre culture. I mean ... come on! We brought many civilizations to their ruins!

Civ4ScreenShot0000.JPG

Civil War strikes Mongolia as our warlords go into the streets demanding free markets.

Civ4ScreenShot00021.JPG

Caesar happens to trade some technologies because we're so educated.

Civ4ScreenShot00031.JPG

Next turn we teach him how to master the economics of his poor Roman empire.

Civ4ScreenShot0004.JPG

Cyrus would love some peace.

Civ4ScreenShot0005.JPG

Ummmm ... I would but I must not ;)

As people demand free religion, Liberalism triggers another revolution in Mongolia ...

Civ4ScreenShot0006.JPG

... and another tech trade.

Civ4ScreenShot0007.JPG

Our next efforts go towards Astronomy as Caesar lacks it and we might profit especially from oversea trades.
Note that our Great Artist in my Fury offers to research half of Nationalism for us. Note as well the enemy approaching our coasts. At least a bit :D

Civ4ScreenShot0009.JPG

We're not that bad at all anymore. At least we've got great potential.

Civ4ScreenShot0011.JPG

But please don't tell Caesar we've THUS weak in military terms...

Good set of turns Pvblivs. I apparently somehow completely missed the fact that Caesar lacked Education:crazyeye:. I think after Astronomy we should quickly go for Chemistry, Rifling and Military Tradition, upgrade our units and show the world how strong we truly are!:king:

But first, Kanga is UP!

Too bad about Germany being knocked out. Many people say the Italians deserved to go through, however I thought the game was quite even, and Germany played more attractively overall in the tournament. Grosso's and Del Piero's goals were beauties though.

Quick write up:

Very quiet turns, still in phony war with Cyrus obviously. T6 saw JC and Cyrus make up. Mostly worker movements and a few builds, look at the log for details. :p Keep changing the cottages at Old Sarai to farms, they are not netting that much commerce and seeing as the Nat. Epic is finished there we should try and max out its hammers. Also started changing a couple of mines to windmills at P-Fury, its can support a few more specialists that way, and still have decent hammer output. Next GP is about 2 turns away and we should be able to pop a few more (relatively) quickly.

Astronomy came in the last turn, chose chemistry as Strauss suggested.

Russia got to this barb city before me.

What Gandhi wants, Gandhi gets!

Indian pollution of our continent.

Hmm, we didn't win much these turns compared to our opponents. How about selling Astronomy to Caesar for many other techs ;)? Or does he already have it? We could and should afford two more cities now as we maintain a 70% research rate.
And now that we have Astronomy maybe we can get a nice new city overseas. (Razing and founding in place) We'll need a bridgehead there anyway if we want to start a war with a great force quickly.
