STR-01: The Scorched Lands

Here, was going to post after initial reply, but I forgot. Wouldn't let me in original post for some odd reason.

Edit: It says its over the memory limit...518Kb

How do I post it without using Manage attachments, seeing as that won't help...

Just lurking here

Princecharles use the upload file feature down at the bottom. Then copy the link into your post something like: "http://www.civfanatics.net/uploads12/name" of game. The upload file is also available under quick links.....

You can also zip it to fall under 500 kb......

Just use winzip if your computer has it installed or I think windows XP has a utility built in with zip feature. Just right click on the file and see if there archive features princecharles....

Apologies for my longer than notified absence as my business trip got extended to popping through India and I returned not feeling well (yes Amoebic Dysentery is as bad as the Rumours).

Now back in the loop and will look and come back into the roster if you will have me / need me

Ralph

Welcome back, Ralph. What business did have in India?

I'm back from my East Sea holidays as well. I can tell you that those nice white beaches are great though the sea has been quite cold. Though it was not the cold water but mainly ugly jellyfish that prevented me from much swimming.. A pity

For our roster I would propose the usual sequence. That means that Strauss would be up now, followed by Ralph, me, Kanga and mr. Charles, that n00(b) guy :)

Hey guys,

as that new guy rightfully stated, we've got a big technology problem to deal with. As we will never catch up with Gandhi we should think about going to war with him after taking out Peter (maybe after an intermediate war with Cyrus).

"All" we need is this:

1) We need at least strong defensive units. That is machine guns or infantry before Gandhi gets modern armors.
2) We need not attack, but we must pillage all of his towns, each of his resources, any of his production, food and and above all commerce improvements.
Additionally we'll make a lot of money if we pillage his towns to finance our troops and our war...

So we've got a goal to achieve. It won't be easy at all. I think that it won't work at all if we cannot get Caesar into this as well somehow. Because when we're busy with Gandhi, he might run away as well.

If we want to win this or at least make it winnable somehow it's time for a plan. It might and it will be risky. We will loose a lot of fish resources (to Gandhis fleet) and we may have some battle on our own soil. But when we want to win we have to get him down fast. Very fast.
One first very good choice would be to stop trading happy and health with him (less happy resources might result in less worked towns). Maybe we can even get Caesar stop trading with him.

But Gandhi obviously will launch a ship that we don't want him to launch if we just stay at our continent and let him do his business.

I agree that we need to take out Gandhi as quickly as possible. But we can't attack him head-on. He is much too powerful to attack over an ocean the size of the Pacific. His counterattacks will crush us.

While we fight Peter, we should start preparing for war with Cyrus already, to attack him as fast as possible. We need to build our cities on his land as staging points for our Indian invasion force. But we shouldn't even think about attacking Gandhi until we have Bombers, Tanks and Gunships. If we can build a sizeable airforce and keep it reinforced, we can bomb Gandhi into the ground. We can also use Gunships as a highly mobile (4 movement) pillaging unit.

I agree on cancelling trade with him as soon as possible.

The New and Improved Roster:
1) Strauss --> UP!
2) Ralph_Jackson --> on deck, good to have you back
3) Pvblivs
4) Kanga_DU
5) princecharles

I don't think about taking him out. I just want to pillage his tech process away. As I said we would need Caesar to bind his troops.

Sorting out obscure database performance problems. Deeply Geeky but the pay is good

Even more geeky than my j2ee development business  but India is an interesting place for this, I'm sure

Hey guys,

I am afraid I will not be able to play in the finishing turnsets of this SG. My computer has broken down again:( . It will be fixed this week, but I'm going on holiday from Friday until July 28th. If I'm lucky, the computer will be fixed tomorrow, then I'll be able to play one turnset, but I'm not counting on it.

I think that this SG will probably be finished by the time I get back. Are you guys okay with playing a 4-man roster or should I call up some lurkers again?

Happy to either play 4 man or get a lurker in either way is  wiht me

Ralph

So Ralph is up. And Strauss ... happy PC fixing. I don't want to have your problems. But I will make a backup now. I'm warned ;)

Will play/post Thursday evening. Other people's views on staying at 4 or seeking another for the roster?

Ralph

Even though I'm just for show on the roster, I think I am able to voice my opinion. The roster is fine for now, but if anyone leaves you'll be down again. Might as well get another, just in case. But, if we get some lurker, does that mean I'm replaced as "teh n00b"?

So as I am easing myself back into the game, whats the plan for the next few turns?

Are we still attacking Peter.

Do we need to declare peace wiuth cyrus?

or is having Julius friendly enough to attack Gandhi later worth more?

Yes, we are still attacking Peter. Make peace with Cyrus first, and on the same turn declare on Peter. With peace with Cyrus, we can probably trade some techs with him. Just don't give him any important military techs if we have some that he doesn't.

I don't really understand your last sentence. Julius and Cyrus are now at peace, so it won't hurt our relationship with Julius (I think, I still don't understand the 'you have traded with our worst enemy' thing, and it hasn't come up in any of my games for ages now:rolleyes:)
