STR-01: The Scorched Lands

Pre- Turn check

Firstly I think this game is still very much winnable. The danger is of course Astronaut Gandhi but Publius’ plan of Staying sweet with Ceasar, brbing him into war with Gandhi and then Pillaging Gandhi to death fees sopt on. The major leverage we have over Ceasar at the moment is Steel so I resist his offered tade of Military Trad + gold for it but we may want to change that.

Now the only :smoke: I can see is this

1smoke.jpg

We have stacks of captured workers so why are we buiulding one???

Early turns

Troops have been left on goto orders to bolster our army to take down Peter, this is OK in this situation as I would have sent more North as well. Despatch a few extra knights as we have some spare , they are good versus longbows and can take down a Barb city on the way just for the fun of it. But…See later

Builds

As troops complete I do a round of Observatories to boost research as we don’t really need more Grenadiers and keeping up with research to get to Machine Guns is more crucial as these are what we need to Pillage Gandhi and will hopefully be the extra bribe leverage we need to getting JC into war with Gandhi, do a luxury for luxury trade with JC as every bit helps and he “doesn’t like us enough” to go to war with Gandhi yet.

1caesar.jpg

Turn 4 Rifling comes in and we move onto Steam Power. Research was set at 60% at the start but have been doing Binary as it makes abig difference to us.

Turn 5 Peace with Cyrus and declare on Peter

Manage to pick off a few units on the way into his territory

Turn 7

Find Moscow is rather well defended!!

1moscow.jpg

And this the see later, with troops on goto up towards Moscow I didn't check the composition of troops and now notice we have no siege weapons up there, so unfortunately the attack stalls while I despatch a couple of cannons.

End of Turn

Cannons on their way up North, there are more we can send if desired. Next player gets to take Peter down. Steam Power in 3 with Binary research and then onto MG’s.

Key point will be when can we get JC to war Gandhi and be ready at the same time

Looks like a good set of turns Ralph (except for the whole siege-weapons fiasco;))

The New And Not So Much Improved Roster:
1) Strauss --> on auto-skip until July 28th
2) Ralph_Jackson --> just played
3) Pvblivs --> UP!
4) Kanga_DU --> on deck
5) princecharles

If someone decides to respond to our plea for help, just put him in the roster behind princecharles.

Good luck and see you in two weeks!

I've already got it, but cannot play before Sunday. Kanga, if you already can play today or on Saturday feel free to swap with me.

Finish Peter off. Then either Cyrus or Gandhi are next.

T0 Whats this stack? Hmmm JC is at war with Cyrus again I hope.

T1 Observatory finishes in Old Sarai. :hmm: Never mind every bit of research helps right now I suppose. Start a canon. Begin drydock for P-Fury . Whip the library in Blastoid, its under cultural pressure from India. Swap in before the half done bank at Tabris, a temple to whip next turn to remove the unhappy citizen.

T2 Whip in Temple @ Tabriz, resume bank.

T3 Steam in. Not sure what to go next, opt for Railroad, hoping its the best trading option for us. I'm later annoyed I didn't take this swap. :(

Because of this.

I expect JC is researching steel. It turns out later that the swap of the two for two would of been the best option.
Good news is we have one source of coal near Karak, which I'll hook up asap, and two near our borders, which we'll get soon. Note to self: cancel India coal deal asap.

T4 Notice an Hermitage being built in Besh. I think wealth might be a better option when we have no decisive build options - others opinions on this? I twig now that the trade last turn was the one to make, the deal is not as sweet now.

T5 Broadway in BIDL (must be India) ... just how advanced is he?

T6 - 7 zzzz

T8 Had to reload here due to a lock up. Coal hooked up and Indian coal blacklisted.

T9 Gandhi doesn't have copper apparently.

Canons in position, I've fended off several catapults for a few turns now and the single canon up there have busted the defences. Time to attack. No losses, and Moscow is no more.

Now hopefully I've not taken liberties with the variant rules, but I'll hold the new war declaration till next turn, seeing as we have been at war this turn. Which works out nicely, as Pvblivs has to choose who. :p

T10 Not much at all. New barb city up north though. JC and Cyrus make peace again!

Our continent:

REMEMBER TO DECLARE WAR!

Turn 461 (1850 AD)
Ning-hsia begins: Rifleman
Tabriz begins: Barracks

Do we have a settler up there? Capital city site with lots of lots of sea food I say ...

We have a spare settler in one of the central cities and one being built down Samarqand (?).

I rather have a settler too much than missing one when I need one fast :) Good to here we're not short on them...

My sentiments as well, having a spare settler about is nice. The old Moscow site is completely unpillaged for that matter, so we'd best rush that settler up there before Gandhi wakes up to the opportunity. Whip in a theatre asap and forge, and it'll be well on its way.

What about the roman settler I spotted? Did he settle,or is he near ex-Moscow? He also had two riflemen with it. It'd kinda suck to lose that city location to the romans...

Do you have time before Sunday, princecharles? Then feel free to play. I'm not capable of it before then.

Your task would be to settle New-Moscow (or better "Camp Kanga") and to achieve as much tech trading options for us as possible...

Don't forget to declare war on Cyrus. I finally get to do something other then move troops! WooWhoo! I can play today, tomorrow, I'm prettymuch open all this weekend. Any other terms you would like to tell me? Specific city to burn, research path, or diplomatic trades?(Such as getting Ceasar to declare war on Cyrus?)

Getting Caesar into the war against Cyrus sounds good. We want to be as friendly to him as possible. Thus we can use the Cyrus war to later draw Caesar into a war with Gandhi...

Other orders are: Keep our empire in best shape possible. Economy is usually our biggest problem. Razing barbarian cities is also very good as this grants us some money we need very much!

Finished my turns:

0: We were at 100% reasearch, and were losing 354 gpt. I had to turn it to zero, becuase we only had 34 gold left...
also, declared war on cyrus.

1: Sending troops toward P-fury, the best naval city we have thats close to cyrus's territory.

http://forums.civfanatics.com/attachment.php?attachmentid=132516&stc=1&d=1152890247
As the city says, we need luck now:
http://forums.civfanatics.com/attachment.php?attachmentid=132517&stc=1&d=1152890247
Ghandi is a little to close to former moscow for my liking. Will we make it?

2:research back to 60%. And, Chehalis is burninated, but no photographers were present. Oh, and Lucky III (canon) is born from that battle. (long story)
And look! I found Grandpa!
http://forums.civfanatics.com/attachment.php?attachmentid=132518&stc=1&d=1152890611
:crazyeye:
3:nothing to see here

4:another settler produced in Samarqand, just in case.
5:You didn't see anything...
6:Army starts arriving at P-fury, we need more ships though...
in a unrelated note, ghandhi traded us his world map for our world map, no strings attached.
http://forums.civfanatics.com/attachment.php?attachmentid=132520&stc=1&d=1152890754

7:We got a Great Scientist! Woo-Hoo! he goes to sleep in karakorum, becuase I have no idea what to use him for...Railroads also finish, start going for Military Tradition, 'cuase cavs are better then knigts.

8:N/A

9:Camp Kanga is founded, but indian settler was never heard from again...

http://forums.civfanatics.com/attachment.php?attachmentid=132521&stc=1&d=1152890960
And we have our first Machinegun!

10: Holy, instead of getting Ceasar to fight Ghandhi, which he won't, he instead went after Cyrus. This'll boost our relationship, thus later, when cyrus is dead, we can ally with ceasar and take down Astronuat Ghandhi.

Prince Charles the Research was set at 100% with a large - to commerce as part of Binary research, it is inefficient to research at a steady 60% for example as you lose the effect of the commerce multipliers. Try it and see, you will find oscillating between 100% and 0% can make a big difference!!

Nice set of turns, things are motoring, probably worth a wee strategy discussion amongst the team of how we want to play out the end-game

Ralph

Bah, I kinda hate Binary research. The idea of a game like Civ4 is to have fun, and I don't think Binary very fun. Then again, its not my SG.

Sorry to be MIA guys
my computer died and i have been isolated from the net for a while.
I will be fully back up and running by tuesday so if there is still space for the great Khan Blastoid he wishes to rejoin the clan

Seems like some good turns there, though I can't really say since I'm on an awfully slow connection and loading those screenshots is impossible.

Sure! Great to have you back. Was your computer already dead when you disappeared on June 21st (IIRC)? Did take an awful long time to repair then;).
