Inspired by Sullla’s RB19-SG, this game will try to win the True Cultural Challenge with only three cities allowed at any time.

Game Settings:

Game Version: Warlords 2.08
Difficulty level: Prince/Monarch (up for discussion)
Map type: Fractal
Map size: Standard
Game speed: Epic
Civ: Egypt
Leader: Ramesses II (Industrious, Spiritual)
Victory conditions: All enabled, only culture counts as victory
Opponents: 6 random
Barbs: On

Variant: We may never use the cultural slider.

Roster:

1) Strauss
2) Pvblivs
3) Asperger
4) blid
5) pholkhero
6) GreyFox

24 hours for a 'got it', additional 48 hours to play.

I will start this up once the roster is full.

I'll join. This seems to be an sg for builders, i like that. It won't be a problem this time to stick to the variant:) . I've no experience with only a few city's, so i can't say if prince or monarch is the right level.

Glad you're back, Strauss! Signing in...

Edit: I think this variant to be difficult enough to suggest Prince level only.

I'd like a seat if you'll have me.
Haven't tried 2.08 yet and I don't know how fast AI can launch on monarch. We are limited to one cathedral per religion and can't use the slider but you picked industrious/spiritual couple to compensate for that so we can have our own religions and get wonder cultural points. I'd prefer monarch but would go with whatever you choose

i'm game for this, if a spot's still open! i've been wanting to start a 3CC culture game soon, so this makes it twice as hard!

ha, beat ya fox! :p you write too much

i, too, think the 3cc task is challenging enough that Prince should be fine.

Like to join. Its been a while since I played with Strauss and blib, and I doubt I have ever played with Pvblivs and Asperger ...

However, as you can see in my sig, I am on business trip right now ... even though I expect to be able to play every night in the hotel ... but who knows, I may met a beautiful lady on the street and ... whatever, if you would have me, put me at the last ... hmmm ... wait a minute, I am contending for the last slot ... :crazyeye:

Anyway, with only 3 cities (no cathedral for every city) and no cultural sliding, it will be very difficult. I suggest prince as well, though I am okay with monarch as well. I lose so many games that I don't mind losing another one ... :)

Nice all-star roster! I'm sure a win is in the bag. Good luck! Looks like I'm a bit late for the sign-ups...

Well, since it broke my heart to leave out GreyFox, I've decided to go for a 6-man roster. This also gives me more breathing space to hopefully start or join another SG in the coming week.

Roster:
1) Strauss
2) Pvblivs
3) Asperger
4) blid
5) pholkhero
6) GreyFox

I will roll and post the start tonight. I will start with 40 turns, then 20 turns each for the first round. After that, 15 turns during peace and 10 during war.

oh sure, and you put him AFTER me ~ jesus w christ! can't i ever get away from his :whipped:

in more pertinent matters: what religions should we aim for w/Ramesses as he doesn't start w/Myst? Stonehenge for free Obelisks, priests specialists and lightbulb the three?? use the war chariots and capture them???

I would suggest getting CoL with the Oracle, and use Great Prophets to lightbulb Philosophy/Taoism and Theology/Christianity.

You even joined the forums later and though overposted me up to 4 times. I normally don't play more than 1 SG at once but I read yours very often. So it's very ok that we didn't meet so far...

To me the Oracle-CoL thing sounds ok but a little bit wasted since on Prince we could do more evil with an Oracle. What do you think about a try for Philosophy and achieving CoL "by hand"? Sounds possible, doesn't it?

If you start soon Strauss now that we're complete I can already say that I can't play as soon as Tuesday. It's very difficult to submit university exercises in time if you've got a normal 40 hours/week job and an SG ongoing :D

Looking forward to having a rich gameplay with such an extraordinary story tellers roster... (edit: I didn't mean me with this, don't expect multi-pages writeups )!

Are you allowed to build culture? This is quite powerful in 2.08 now with 1 conversion ratio of hammers to culture? I remember this was against the rules in RB19 though.

Good luck, ill be lurking.

Great, I am in  ...

I think stonehedge for the culture and GPriest point, then use the GPriest to get Philosophy, then Oracle for whatever ... CoL or CS will be both fine ... is a great idea

However, the stonehedge thingy is a double-edged sword ... on one hand we have free monument, on the other hand Calendar will cancle the cutural effect of the free monuments (whereas if we had built one in each city, calendar will not obsolete the culture, I think).

Since we can't push the slider, we will be going to focus on food and go specialist crazy ... Pyramids may be of a priority too.

Geez ... so many wonders to build.

Build obelisks while building the henge.

No, seriously, Stonehenge may produce more culture in one city than 3 obelisks in 3 cities (2 culture per turn per city eventually). I am stating this from the impression henge will be built before city 2-3 are up.

How can the prophet get Philo? According to the tech prefs:

Meditation
Polytheism
Priesthood
Monotheism
Theology
Divine Right
Mysticism
Masonry
Code of Laws
Civil Service
Monarchy
Literature
Music
Writing
Philosophy
...

You may have to get Philo by hand at this rate.

Given this it seems best if we go for CoL by hand and then research Philo with the Oracle. Same way as Civil Service, only some more religion things. :)

Alright, this is the start I rolled:

Settling in place seems the best option, grabbing Cows and Fish, and a nice combination of food and production.

Will play the first turns tomorrow afternoon, so Pvblivs can play and we won't have to start with swapping and skipping already.

yeah settling in place seems the way to go. As for the third resource, sure there must be marble hidden in the west (well, at least I can dream)

Starting techs are of no use. Should we go fishing->AH->mining ?
Builds can be partial barracks or warrior -> workboat -> worker

blah, blah, blah, settle in place, blah, blah, blah . . . oh, obviously, move 1SW to the hill "just in case"

i agree w/blid on that tech order (w/BW tacked on for good measure), and would rather go warrior > WB > worker > settler just to get another explorer out and about.

obviously, too, if there's a nearby religious civ, let's get clobberin' :hammer2:

no wait, :spank: uhh...no, that's alex and "wangie" (as he calls him ;) )

:hammer:

yeah, that's right :yup:

[sorry about the nonsense but it's time to leave work :woohoo: ]
