For those among you huddled masses who drink, do you drink straight spirits or mixed? With or without ice? Answer expansively, svp.
In addition, they say having more than five standard drinks in one day is binge drinking.
So that means that having six beers while watching the footy is binging? What about two dozen whiskies over a night at the local?
If this stat is correct, then almost all my contemporaries are incurable binge drinkers.

Good god, you're joking right? I'm a fairly heavy drinker, and I think 24 whiskies in one night would turn me into compost.

Btw, I enjoy single malt scotch, except the stuff that's too peaty. Neat, of course. Also, premium tequila is surprisingly smooth the same way.

i drink mainly mixers, mainly with out ice.

but i can't drink vodka mixers (tastes yuk), so i drink vodka straight.

i only have ice with straight coke.... (noooo alcohol!!!!)

Not much of a liquor drinking kind of guy. Rum and cokes occasionally and screwdrivers are always good. Kahlua goes good with a lot of things too. But I pretty much stick to beer.....and hard cider......

24 shots of whiskey in one night? Anyone who can do that and still walk is definetly an alcoholic and should probably seek help....unless they want to die young.

Come come fellows! Surely that isn't all that much. I usually average at about 18 bourbon and cokes on Thursday nights, and 24 or more on Saturday night, when at the pub. Thats over about 6 hours 2000-0200, and on a full stomach. It's not my record, I've gone past 30 before (only just, 31)
But after 24 I can still walk, and am fairly fine, just a little talkative. I guess it is the result of my superior genetic make up, mixing Aussie drinking power with Scandinavian and Irish blood.
I can handle a carton of beer fine as well (24 x 375ml), so it must just be me.

I like Irish straight or on the rocks, as well as avariety of bourbons and scotchs mixed or with ice. I drink vodka without ice, or with raspberry, and tequilla as it is intended. Rum go's with coke, but its not really my drop. Canadian Club and dry ginger is quite delectable, IMO.

I ain't no alcho! Just a private school trained typical Aussie drinker!!

Sorry friend, but that's what they call a class A alcoholic. That kind of tolerance takes years to build and I'm sure your liver is already starting to rot pretty good. But hey, whatever floats yer boat.

Magnus, tequila straight is some nasty ass sh1t! I don't drink anything that requires a "chaser" myself. If it tastes that bad, I ain't gonna drink it!

black or white russians are nice drinks to have just chillin out.

The livers quite fine. They checked it out recently while running some tests to determine the cause of some bad headaches, and it was healthy.

I guess some of it might be tolerance, as I know when I started at 15 or 16, I probably couldn't drink that much, but also body size( I am tall and heavily built), drinking on a full stomach, having a couple of cokes and waters along the way, and doing it over several hours. I works out to 4 an hour, and I can handle that fine, 1 every 15 minutes.
But I am not an alcoholic. I just like a drink when out, but can go for weeks and months without it.
And drake, you are right. straight tequilla is an "acquired" taste, but it is actually quite nice.
Especially with Mexican food.

drake, someday try some GOOD (Perfidio or Petron) tequila and you will find it very smooth. Also the club soda is strictly for hydration purposes so I don't get a hangover.

Call me a girly man, but I don't like straight liquor of any type
cwm8.gif

I heard all about smooth whiskeys and sh1t and when I tried these "smooth" drinks, I realized that even "good" whiskey, still tastes like a dried up peice of crap. I can't imagine tequila being any different.....The only reason I've even tried to drink that crap is because someone bought it for me.........

Oh well.......It's all a matter of taste.

Chivas Reagal (12 year old scotch) on ice.

Sometimes Vodka (Smirnoff is best) on ice with gingerale.

Nothing else, really.

here is a local speciality: gällivare sunrise.
fill a glass with moonshine(is that what you call it, the home made kind?) and put a sausage slice at the edge.
viking.gif

back to the question: i drink rum, tequila and whiskey straight and mix vodka.

my heaviest night was 12 x 50cl beer and 50cl "moonshine" 60% alcohol + some tequila shots. miraculous, i had no hang over nor loss of memory in the morning after.

Simon, what you describe is truly binge drinking (sorry to put it so bluntly) and you might get away with it at 20, but, take it from one that has been there and done that, it will catch up with you. I strongly suggest you consider quality over quantity, after destroying huge numbers of brain cells that's the conclusion I came too and the next day is not a head pounding nightmare - just some friendly advice

.

Btw, my favourite spirit is a good Cognac - neat of course!

Yes, its quite lovely isn't it.
biggrin.gif

I don't intend to drink this hard for all my life, but I do have a tolerance ( and 10 spare livers in evil storage...), and it doesn't present a problem at this stage, but I will heed the advice of the Olde Ones, and keep it down to about 15 drinks tonight.
That, and the fact the bastards have put the price up from $2.50 to $3!
And I have the braincells to spare, being a supra-genius (INT 25) disguised tarrasque.

15 drinks at 3 bucks apeice......jesus, think about the money you're flushing down the toilet!

I like going out once and awhile but never get more then a drink or two. Cost of alchol at the bars is marked up 4-500% of what you could buy it at stores.....so I only really drink at home or at friends get togethers.

A bottle of beer at the supermarket: Around 75c to 1.25$. A bottle of beer at a bar: 2.50-4$ (or more).

I'm such a cheapskate aren't I
rolleyes.gif
but I really don't think paying a bunch of money for the "atmosphere" (usually crowded smokey bars filled with townies and skanks) is worth it.

&lt;/boring old man mode&gt;

Yeah, I'm pretty much a lightweight too magnus. After 3 or 4 beers, I'm good. Any more then that and I start getting silly.

Tolerance really is a bad thing. It costs more to get your buzz on when you drink all the time.<IMG SRC="http://forums.civfanatics.com/ubb/biggrin.gif" border=0>
