You should think along the lines of movie actors and their method acting technique, in which they immerse themselves in the personality of the role they are to play. This is, if you like, a method school of journalism that was used for this programme and it is not new at all. Donal MacIntyre has been doing it for a few years now. The BBC also ended up providing evidence against the BNP through this technique, by infiltrating that organisation. It was also done by the BBC to show racism within the British police force. Just because she's a fairly good looking woman and it involves vast amounts of alcohol should not make you think it is wierd or stupid. It's a very intimate and hands on approach to journalism and a much lauded step away from authoritarian programming.
