They can't, but their Theater Squares still generate points for Great Writers.

That battering ram nerf is pretty huge, and should make medival war require some more thinking. Also medieval walls might actually be useful.

The best change in the patch, to my mind. Simultaneously improved the siege weapons line balance and gave value to post-ancient walls.

Plus, as a bonus, it's a small boost to Tamar.

Agree. The changes to Rams are very good. I also like you can upgrade Rams to Seige, which will change the dynamic too. Added to that, it’s going to be harder to get to Knights.

The Maori can still generate a Great Work of Writing from retiring Sun Tzu.

Oh, and lakes now have names. There's Reindeer Lake for Canada.

There seems to be a common misconception about the Maori Great Writer malus. The Maori can still generate Great Writer points, and will end up generating the most if player controlled thanks to wanting a Marae in every city, they just cannot ever spend them. This means you will end up with thousands of points just sitting there. So if these are converted into faith...

On an amusing side note, the AI has voted to ban Great Writers multiple times when I am playing as the Maori, because all they see is his massive Great Writer point generation.

The indirect implications for certain civs are always exciting with these kinds of things, such as the nerf to siege support weapons being a buff to siege units, and thus also being a buff for the Ottomans. I'd also argue that the free settler pantheon is perhaps best for the Ottomans too, as they can spend that production on an early army instead, to capture a city or two for Jannisarys, and to make up for their war bonuses coming later than other war civs'.

The marae doesn't get writer points or a writer slot though.

It would no longer be a malus if they were converted to faith. The voting issue sounds like a bug though.
