stSBNES: A Place in the Sun

To: Portugal
From: Spain

We would like to further improve our relations and open a trade route between our nations.

To: Britain, Austria
From: Spain

We are wary of both your nations at the moment, for similar reasons, mostly because of the agressive views you have both shown in the past. To ensure that our nations never come to war, we propose NAP's with both you're nations.

To: China
From: Spain

We are glad we can help. If you need help defeating the rouge empress, ask, our troops in the Phillipines will be ready at a moments notice. However, we must warn you of the action you have taken in Luang Prabang. I am not demanding you pull out, but as a friend, I advise you to pull out before things get ugly. This is only for the best.

To: Germany, Belgium, Netherlands, France

We offer a DPP to ensure the safety of both our countries.

To:France
From:Japan

Let us cooperate closely by signing a MPP with one another.

To:Austria-Hungary
From:Japan

Sign a MPP with us?

To Austria:

For god's sake, stop signing MPPs like a French whore.

To Japan:

Germany will do what it wants, when it wants. You can't stop us.

To Korea:

Would you trust Japan's intentions? Germany is half-way around the world and we just want money. Japan might have worse intentions with Korea.

To Germany:

Austria is allied with everyone. They have no foreign policy.

1887 - Fire in the East

Europe

The Austrian army finishes the occupation of Montenegro, and the former country becomes just another province of Austria. The Partisans are giving Austria little trouble so far, but some have fled into the Ottoman Empire and into Serbia where they are taking their time to regroup. On a seperate note, Austria enacted a new education system teaching only german, and hungarian in hungary. This caused an outrade among the many nations in southern Empire, and in some cases acts of direct violation to this new law. The Croats, Serbs, Bosnians who live in the empire feel that they should be allowed to teach their language to their children.

Germany continues its massive military build up. Its army now exceeds any other in the world by at least 300,000 man, the nation is up in arms, with no enemy in sight. Some people say that the economy will not hold up under this much stress, but they are silenced by a nationalistic roar of the public.

Africa

Transvaal meets strong resistance when it attempts to expand to the North, however the natives are silenced by the European guns. Further expansion however could be dangerous.

Netherlands and Austria both rush to establish colonies in Africa, and both succeed, however these new low-level colonies will take a long time to pay off unless they are improved in the near future. Congo is quickly becoming the most advanced colony in Africa, thanks to all the effort the Belgian government has put into it.

Asia

United Kingdom sends troops and supplies to some of the Afghani warlords. This stimulates fighting amongst the warlords, and soon all of them forget about the UK, and India is safe for now. But what will happen when the warlords are eventually united under one of the rulers UK supports? Where is the gurantee that he will not turn on his old supporters?

In the begining of July the Dutch fleet appeared off the coast of Arijeh, and withing a few weeks a full invasion was in order. The army pushed deep and far into Arijah, only slowing down due to the rain season when advancing became very difficult. In addition to this, new colonies are being claimed by the Dutch all over south east asia, and the Netherlands are quickly becoming the biggest trading nation in the region.

China haults its invasion of Luang Prabang and begins to encourage Chinese to move into the occupied region, some even do. But just as that happens the French Expeditionary Force arrives in Luang Probang, and the Chinese army being terribly outnumbered, outgunned and outtrained surrenders or retreats. Withing a week the French are in control of the northern part of Luang Probang. The army has however stopped on the border, not crossing into China

A Spanish escort of 20 war ships sailed to Taiwan with the hopes of launching an invasion of the island. They were pleasnatly surprised to find 30 British ships and 15 Russian ships protecting the island, and after a short battle the Spanish fleet withdrew to a safe distance. The invasion will have to be postponed.

Just when China comes to terms with the rebels in Manchuria and sends its cavalry there a new disaster comes. When the newly trained Chinese cavalry reaches Manchuria it is met by a giant Russian army and at least 70,000 Chinese vonunteers with the flags of Cixi. The cavalry is quickly overpowered and the remnants of it return to Beijing. The Russian army continues its advance until all of Manchuria is under Russian occupation, and the Russian army is now withing a week's march from Beijing. The Russians however stop, but the Cixi vounteers continue heading south, however they are not nearly as well organized nor trained as the Russians, so they make little gains.
