SuBI1 - Masters of the high seas

And the wonders are falling... Looking at the save... Oooh Great Library in 3 though. Nice. No one else is even researching it.

Says SpikeIt as the AI gets a SGL.:lol: j/k. That would suck though.

I put Sariwon on the south as I popped a goody hut with a warrior, and got some barbs. The Warrior lost and the settler ran and ended up down there, as that was the best spot away from the fortified barbs. I would have to get close to the barbs to settle the iron.

One thing about the Great Library. Given that we're a seafaring people, we should really beeline to Astronomy, which involves Education. If we trade for Currency, we can cross our fingers and hope for Feudalism which would be great for getting out the hammer and getting Rax in every city...

Just a thought.

SuperBeaverInc. - Bite your tongue! :cringe:

Although as Balastulin offhandedly points out, we are a confused civ. I think our people need to figure out our semi-long term plan.

We are seafaring. And we plan to dominate the world. The two of these seemingly conflict with each other.

First off, regarding expansion. Domination requires 66% of the land, so #1 the Korean people never stop expanding. If there is available land, we settle it.

Is there a wonder better than the Great Library to get? (maybe) Tech wise, we lead the world. We don't really need the Great Library. Plus since we are so daft :crazyeye: as to research toward Astronomy and Navigation, we'll kill the long term benefits of the GL rather quickly. But, if we instead trade for Construction and draw Feudalism, well, then we have Sun Tzu and all those Barracks. Perfect for domination. Plus, as a dominating Civ, we at least need Feudalism. Having the GLib will get probably only get us the government techs and maybe Engineering at the rate we are researching. So I think the Korean people should:

#2 Trade for construction, and enter the Middle Ages ASAP. If we draw Feudalism, switch Great Library to SunTzu! :hammer: If not, complete Great Library, research Feudalism before starting down Astronomy path for MI's and Pikes.

#3 Pick target #1. Byzantines or Dutch (Great Lighthouse) If we draw Feudalism, build some MI's, take iron island (the Dutch do NOT have iron hooked up currently), and take the Lighthouse and maybe a lux.

Oh, and #4 Take over the world! ;)

When we traded the construction with the currency,
and we didn't get the Feudalism as a free tech for our scientific trait, we can switch to Great Wall (it comes from Construction)

Yup, Great Wall is still up.

As SpikeIt points out, we seem to be more than a little confused.

Domination is our victory choice. Therefore, we should knock the Byzantines out ASAP, so that we get the entire island to ourselves. Also, we don't want Dromons roamin' the seas for too long.

My suggested plan:

1. Seoul should keep on pumping out settlers for the further flung areas (i.e. Eastern island), as well as our northern areas.
2. Once iron is connected, we should build a slew of MDI/swordsmen and load them into our fleet of galleys to take on the Byzantines. First step in our domination has to be the complete subjugation of the 'Korean' island.
3. Sun Tzu's would be GREAT!
4. Variant rules state beelining to Astronomy/Navigation (Magellan's would be nice too.)
5. We should buy workers whenever they become available so as to help clear the Swamps of SpikeIt. Hopefully we should be able to capture a few from the Byzantines.
6. Use either Monarchy or Feudalism as the form of Government.
7. Once we've put the Byzantines to the sword, use our lovely fleet to take it to the Dutch.
8. Build more ships!

I don't know if anyone else has noticed but I think Balastulin would like us to build a few more ships. :lol:

Hmmm. I like the idea of Byzantine slave crews helping to clear these swamps. Yes. I like it a lot! :mwaha:

Great wall wouldn't be too bad, as its nice for defense. But I'd prefer the Great Library or Sun Tzu. At least if we don't draw Feudalism, we have a good chance to pick it up from the Library. And all those governments are nice for trading, so I'd prefer Great Library over the Wall.

My Wonder-wish list:

Sun Tzu's
Great Library
Great Wall

Great Wall is good for defense, but we are looking to DOMINATE! :evil: so Sun Tzu's would make the Korean Island a Powerhouse of scum-hatred. Byzantinium would collapse like a badly cooked souffle.

If we end up with the Great Library, I reckon go for Monarchy government so that we can reduce our research and spend all our money rushing buildings/swordsmen so as to take the hammer to those wonder-stealers, the Dutch.

WHAT!
I just typed all this up and then it told me i had used to many smilies and deleted a 40 line post :eek:

GAH!

I cant spend another 30 mins doing this. Ill just post the save...

save

Wow! Who knew there was a smiley breaking point? [punch] That's terrible. Do try and mention any highlights at least. Inquiring minds must know!

I've been writing up my logs in notepad and cut and pasting them into the forums. That might save you next time.:)

It said images, and that smiles counted as images.
I didn't have that many :mischief:

Anywho, main details?
Erm, well we got Glib. Monarchy off it. In middle ages on my first turn (got construction off english). Monotheism for free tech.

We are in anarchy right now, revolting to monarchy.

The Byzantines are getting VERY uppity. They have the gall to parade their dromons through OUR waters.

Also, the Viking City of Carthage :rotfl:

SUBI_carthage.JPG

:lol: I never noticed that. Looks like the Vikings are winning.

The Byzantines must be a very confused lot. :crazyeye:

Sounds like a nice set of turns. :goodjob: I guess Sun Tzu wasn't in the cards. A nice dream though.

Well, once King Wang Kon takes the throne, I guess the build up will begin. :hammer:

Workers beavering away.

A bit of an uninspired few turns sorry.

Workers. The strength of the Korean people!

Nice set of turns... Wow. Engineering already. The tech pace is going to pick up quick, I think.

Got it!

SpikeIt is out clearing jungle at the moment, so King Kon decided to take his own turns this time...

Pre-game look:
Byz have settler pair wandering the jungles, likely moving to east grass areas. Also, iron city Manp'o is surrounded by Byz cities. Even with roads, once we go to war this source will be cut off. We need to get the other iron source.

Whoa! :confused: We are importing spices from the Byzantines?! 18 turns left too. What did we give up for that, especially considering we have hooked up our spices as well?

Our army is weak compared to Byzantines. And most of our workforce is building the jungle road.

Goals:
Build army a bit, stockpile gold for upgrades to swords or MIs. Settle east and try and get the other iron on the island we share with the Vikings.

[0] 70 AD
Do a lot of MM'ing. We need some troops if only to defend some cities. Pusan temple switched to spear. Slowed Seoul's growth down a bit. Switch Sariwon settler to worker. We'll ship one over faster. Also shadowing Byz settler pair. Oh, we're in Monarchy, so let's start mining a few hills! Also dial back research a bit to extend our Great Library Period.

IBT
Another Byzantine settler pair enters the jungle. A Dutch boat pulls up to our southern shores! They might be settling.

[1]90 AD
Gah! Auto roading in jungles is not very efficient. Attempt to cancel orders of one crew.
Build embassy with Theodora for 33 gold. Theodora's in anarchy. Constantinople is a weak city with little production, but she's attempting to build the Great Wall. Guarded by 3 spears.
Build embassy with Portuguese for 43 gold.Lisbon is 32 turns from Temple of Artemis. It already has the Colossus. No resources or luxuries hooked up. Lisbon is heavily defended and makes 7 shields per turn.
Recoup some money by signing ROP with Portugal. Henry pays all 37 of his gold.
Renew ROP with spain for 51 of Izzy's gold.
Pyongyang aqueduct switched to horseman. Pyongyang doesn't need to grow beyond size 6 for now.

IBT
Pyongyang horse -> spear.
Wonsan gally -> spear
Pusan spear -> warrior
Korean Panama settler -> spear
Spain completes Temple of Artemis. Vikings, Byzantines switch to Hanging Gardens. Dutch, Portuguese to Great Wall.

[2]110 AD
Galley with settler and spear heading to Viking Island (did we name this? Easter Island?)

IBT
Seoul settler -> settler
SpikeIt's Home worker -> worker
English start Great Wall and Hanging Gardens.

[3]130 AD
Inch'on now connected to Korean mainland.

IBT
Pusan worker -> spear
Jeju settler -> spear
Ulsan Harbor -> Temple
Manp'o spear -> harbor
Kaesong library -> spear
Sariwon worker -> spear

[4]150 AD
Set another settler/spear pair afloat.
Oh. Our iron is connected through the Byzantine network. Harbor to harbor presumably.
Pusan spear build switch to sword.

IBT
Byzantines settle in jungle.
Pyongyang spear -> sword
Inch'on library -> Rax

[5]170 AD
Upgrade 3 warriors to swords

IBT
Seoul settler -> sword
Wonson Spear -> Marketplace
Doh. Taejon riots.
Paegam spear -> temple
English finish Great Wall.
Byz -> Hanging Gardens

[6]190 AD
Not much going on. Upgrade another warrior.

IBT
Taejon spear -> rax
Kaesong culture expands.
Another Byz settler pair on the move.

[7]210 AD
Demand the Dutch remove their galley from our borders... oh, apparently they made an error and they'll leave. :mad:

IBT
Dutch galley leaves. Portuguese keep exploring. Byzantine warrior on tip of island.
Seoul spear -> settler
Inch'on culture expands.

[8]230AD
Contact with Carthage finally. Carthage is very backwards, lacking all resources and luxuries. Their capital is Utica! :D
Suwon founded out near easter peninsula, starts worker.

IBT
Portuguese drop a settler pair on our southern tip in the western hills!
Pyongyang sword -> spear
Pusan sword -> spear

[9]250AD
Our iron settling galley crosses first straight and pulls up next to a barb galley.
:eek: Add the Vikings to our list. Alesund settled on our iron.!
Portugal learned the Republic as did the Byzantines. We should learn it next turn...
SuBI1_260AD_Alesund.jpg

IBT
A Dutch galley comes to the rescue and kills the barbarian galley!
The Library teaches us Republic.

[10]260 AD
We settle Haeju on the peninsula which also takes the barb camp booty. Now we just need to get rid of the barbs.
Haeju starts worker.
Rush Rax at Inch'on for 88 gold.

Okay. Here's the deal. We have a settler pair in a galley that was going to the iron spot on Easter island. Well, now that its taken, maybe we settle the island north of it, where the galley is now. There is an goody hut there too. The island doesn't look like much
though. Additionally, we have a settler and a spear down south near where the Portuguese may settle. Try and take the bonus grass at least, maybe settle near the hills to get some production. But beware of the large barb camp in the hills.

We now have a rax near the Byzantines and our iron is connected. A sword is passing through to help defend Manp'o, our only iron city. Additionally, 4 or 5 swords are on their way to Inch'on in case war is in the cards. The Byzantines still lack both iron and horses.

We could stand to have a jungle city between Taejon and Inch'on to break up the journey and grab an excess spice. We are no longer paying for the Byzantine spice.

Lastly, Ulsan is about to grow which will make the local citizens unhappy. Watch for this.

Oh, sorry, but a couple units may be auto-moving, including the galley going toward Easter Island. Stop it and reroute.

One last thing. We need to decide where to build the Forbidden Palace... :king:

The SAVE

[0] Thanks to SpikeIt, we're stronger than Byzantines! :goodjob:

Eek, we're going broke. We have 57 units, but we only support up to 32 units. I traded the Dutch for their Incense & Silks for our Currency and 124 golds. I lowered lux down to 0%, and science up to 80%. I also sold the Currency to the Portuguese for 71 gold (the Dutch would probably have sold it to them anyway). Since Traejon is a fast-growing civ, I switched its barracks to granary to speed it up. I also switched Paegam from temple to library to take advantage of our scientific trait, and now we have 3 luxuries. I also switched Ulsas to worker, it needs more mines around its land.

[IBT] SpikeIt's Home: Worker -> Worker,
Ich'On: barracks -> courthouse
Seoul: Settler -> Settler
Ulsas: worker -> library

[1] Sold Engineering to the Dutch for 145 gold, pushed science up to 90%.

[IBT] Pyongyang: Spear -> worker
Pusan: Spear -> library
Korean Canal: Spear -> worker
Jeju: Spear -> Worker
The Portuguese is now building the Hanging Garden

[2] Settled Taeju, which is our 2nd iron city on the Eastern Island.

[IBT] WHAT!?!? Our only iron city, Manp'O betrayed us and flipped to Byzantines!? :wallbash:
Kaesong: spear -> worker

[3] Switched Seoul's production from settler to horseman
I moved three swordmen to Manp'O.

[IBT] Byzantines asked my 3 swordmen to leave, but I refused and declared war. No one attacked our swordmen.
Seoul: Horseman -> horseman
Traejon: granary -> worker

[4] I failed to capture the dangit city Manp'O :mad: :mad: Gee, what a great RNG... With 3 swordmen, I hardly killed 1 regular spearman, and lost two other swordmen. The surviving swordman is redlined.

[IBT] Ummm....OK... Our fortified, veteran spearman totally died to an attacking elite warrior without hurting him.

[5] Gathering our units up to the battle frontline, thanks to the 3 luxuries, we don't need much MP in our cities.

[IBT] Seoul: horse -> horse
Korean Canal: worker -> harbor

[6] Again, my luck is very low. I had 1 horseman, 3 swordmen ready to capture Charcedon, it is size 2, no wall. Another uttler failure. It has only 2 spearmen, and 1 swordman. My horseman attacked and fled away without causing any injury. My three swordmen failed to killed any spearman. :mad:

[7] Spearmen beat both attacking swordman and an archer and promoted to veteran.
Pusan: library -> horseman

[8] Settled Tokch'On on a gold hill on the english island. It needs some culture, or will be flipped to them.
The English now knows Feudalism.

[IBT] Seoul: horseman -> horseman

[9] Gathered more units to the frontline.

[IBT We discovered Theology, unfortunately, no Great Science Leader.
Taeju: (gold-rushed) spearman -> worker. This city (it's our, now, only iron city) it needs to connect the iron on the mountain and harbor.

[10] We're broke now. I set the science down to 0%. Our Great Library will do the tech-researching for us, thanks goodness. We are makign 45 gold per turn. With those golds, we can rush-gold our cities. I sold Theology to the Dutch for 61 gold, 3pgt, and an alliance against Byzantines, the Dutch declared war on them. They should help us, since they're only few miles away from the Byzantines.
The English uttlerly refused to trade Feudalism for anything, not even for any gold amount we have and for our theology, I guessed they're very proud having a monopoly on it. :rolleyes:

We're at the war with the Byzantiens, and we're now weaker than them :( But! Seoul is currently cranking out horseman every other turn, and when Taejon grows to size 8, it will be able to build a horseman every 3 turns (it'll be able to produce 10 uncorrupted shields= 3 turns.) Also, Pusan is able to build horseman every 4 turns as well. Let the Byznatines send their swordmen in our territories, and we'll pick on them with our horsemen. You can also build trebuchets, if you desire so. After they stopped seem to send swordmen in, we can start counter-attacking and capturing their cities.

Technologically, we'll be alright. As soon the English sold Feudalism to anyone, we'll get it right away. As soon, we're winning the war and are stronger than other civs, we can stop cranking units and start building marketplaces to help out our dying economies.

There's two workers in the city of Traejon, they should be used to mine the mountain north of Traejon, to help out with the production of the much-needed horsemen.

Punish those Byzances
