SuBI1 - Masters of the high seas

Okay, the time of mine where my life is a rush is coming to an end. I should be able to play like I should be soon :).

It'll be great to have you back aboard. Catch you on the turn about. :D

I should be able to play this tomorrow night. I did get a moment or two to look at the save. There are some potentially great trade opportunities, if only we could trade gpt. :rolleyes: There is no gunpowder on our island as Balastulin pointed out, but there is a source just to off our Eastern peninsula in the borders of the Viking city of Farsund. And there is one not claimed on Easter Island! :D I'll try and get a settler there asap.

As for the battle plans. Well, all other targets are out as we are trading with everybody. For some reason we are giving horses to the Portuguese for 18 more turns. Maybe we picked up a tech or maps? But man, if we couldn't fight the Dutch I would have loved to kick the Portuguese off our island. So on with the Dutch. I think they know because they are furious with us. I doubt we'll be able to take more than a couple of cities. They are going to be really tough. And we only have 5 trebs. Ouch. Well, tomorrow night I guess I'll figure something out. Maybe I can at least take Utrecht, their gunpowder city... :hammer:

With Balastulin shaking off an AFL induced drunken haze to build up the Korean navy, SpikeIt steps in recovering from a bit of a jungle flu bug. Should be another coherent set of turns.

Take a look around. English and Dutch up Printing Press, Music Theory, and Banking. Spain up Music Theory and Banking, Vikings up Banking. If only we could trade gpt :p ...
English and the hated Dutch have saltpeter. Spain has some in its borders. Vikings too, flaunting us in close by Farsund just off the eastern peninsula of our great continent.
But what is that! Good ol' Easter Island! Just outside of Alesund. And we already have the harbor in Taegu. We need a settler! The Koreans must dominate and to dominate we need saltpeter!

Army is, uh, getting there. Dutch saltpeter is in Utrecht. Dutch have SunTzu and Leo's. We just don't have the army to go much farther than a Dutch city or two.
Wang is not happy with the Dutch, but the Portuguese on our continent really irritates him... too bad we have some deal sending over horses for nothing for 18 turns...

Look at build orders. We are building infrastructure everywhere. Are we going to war or building our lands. Only Seoul and Taejon are building units.
Sariwon switched from courthouse to settler - gunpowder grabbing settler!
Switched Pyongyang from University (no shields) to caravel.
SpikeIt's home Univ -> Treb - need bombardment vs Dutch
Inch'on univ rushed, will start units next turn.
Korean Panama - Market rushed, units next turn.

Trade maps around for some gold.

Taegwon founded on Easter Island - Our saltpeter city! Starts worker.
Okay, we either do this or not... Demand Dutch give us Banking...
King William is not impressed. Okay. Let's do this... William, we grow tired of your insolance, we want your clogs!
Our overwhelming army of Knights, MDIs and Trebs unloads onto the Dutch Iron island. :hammer:

IBT
A Dutch caravel heads out of Maastricht and turns around the north end of the island. Not sure where its going. They had two Swiss Mercs and a longbow in the city. We'll send a caravel after it.
Pyongyang caravel -> Knight
Naissus courthouse -> Temple
English start JS Bachs

[4] 1090AD
Bombardment - 3 hits. There are 3 swiss mercs now. All trebs hit!
Vet Knight vs yellow merc -> wins, taking 2 damage
Vet Knight vs yellow merc -> wins, taking 2 damage
Vet KNight vs red mec -> wins! Maastricht is ours! There are 5 resistors. Starts on pike.

IBT
Dutch land Swiss Merc, MDI, and Longbow on our iron island.
Constantinople riots - damn Byzantines.
Taejon Knight -> Knight
Wonsan Univ -> Pike

[5] 1100AD
Can't really attack Dutch counter troops without trebs in position. I would rather not set off the Dutch GA yet.
Trebs red line the Swiss Merc and take 2 damage of MDI.
Vet Knight attacks, slays Swiss Merc and promotes.
Vet Knight attacks and kills MDI w/o a scratch.
Elite MDI attacks vet longbow and kills w/o a scratch. Iron island is secure again. Now to ready mainland thrust.

We are building troops up for a southern attack on the Utrecht, the Dutch gunpowder city.

SpikeIts Home Treb -> Treb
Ch'onfu granary -> courthouse
Vikings are building JS Bachs

[7] 1120AD
Our troops unload on the two hills next to Groningen. Treb bombardment next turn.
Wow! Physics will get us a bundle as we have Monopoly. Since we can't trade for tech currently, now is our chance. When we make peace with the Dutch, we should be able to get a discount on a future tech as well.

So Phyics to Liz for Banking, Music Theory, Printing Press, WM, TM, 44 gold, and 17gpt.

IBT
Dutch movement - zilch
Jeju Marketplace -> temple
Ulsan pikeman -> caravel
Maastrict resistance is over.

[8] 1130AD
Treb bombardment at Groningen was pathetic. Attack will wait. Incense pillaged.
Dutch will come to the peace table, but won't hand over Lighthouse. Oh well...
Trade Vikings Printing Press and spices for wines.

IBT
Hmmm. Lost our Dyes and Gems. Spain doesn't want our horses? Then again, in renegotiating, she decides she likes horses for dyes and gems. Threw in an ROP as well, so our exploring worker can wander farther.
Seoul Knight -> Knight
Inch'on Knight -> MDI

[9] 1140AD
Another round of pathetic bombardment. :mad: Attack holds another turn.

IBT
Adrianople Treb -> Treb
Wonsan Pike -> Knight
Taejon Knight -> Treb
Paegam Marketplace -> University
Chinje Aqueduct -> Temple
Vikings complete Sistines in Copenhagen
Dutch start Bach,

[10] 1150AD
Bombardment again only gets two hits. There are at least 3 Swiss Merc in Groningen. The next player can decide whether to attack this turn or hold for more bombardment.
There are another couple trebs in a caravel off our coast ready to deploy.

Okay, so here is the situation. We have a large contingent of troops on the Dutch mainland. We will take high casualties when we attack unless we have some success at bombardment. A Swiss Merc will should set off the Dutch GA.

We are tops in tech. We'll have gunpowder connected in 2 turns. Magellans Voyage is due in 2, and our FP is due in 3. We have one ship off the coast of Utrecht, which is the Dutch gunpowder city. Send more troops there to knock that out.

Also, in 8 turns our gift of horses to Portugal is up. End that deal unless we can get something of value for them.

Long live Korea!

The Save

And a couple small pics... Gunpowder!

Hello!

I apologise for my abscence, but my parents have been having some troubles, topped off by my 85 year old grandfather being involved in a car crash.

Anyway, im ready to get back into these succession games that i have missed large chunks of.

Thanks for your understanding

Glad to have you back Oblivion. Sorry to hear life is handing you a bad run right now. I hope your grandfather is okay and hopefully your family issues work themselves out.
Maybe some of the emotional roller coaster you've certainly been on can be relieved by dishing out a bit of Korean aggression. :D

4 Veteran knights lost,
1 Veteran Knight fled,
One Vertan Knight won,
and 1 Vertan MDI won

Ran out of attackers and told the army to camp one more turn,
and wait for the knight reinforcement from the Korean mainland.

cash-rushed a barracks at Sokch'O to aid the healing of our severely injured troops.

[IBT]
The Longbow attacked, and the Elite Knight defended instead of a pikeman :mad: But fortunately, the E. Knight fled and no one else chased it.

[9]
We discovered Theory of Gravity, and advanced to Industrial Age, gaining the Steam Power!
Started researching on Military Tradition, we need cavalries soon as possible.

Seoul: bank -> Newton's University
Amsterdam: settler -> settler

Also, Taeju can build IronWork (too bad it's badly corrupted city)

cash-rushed a settler @ Amsterdam
cash-rushed a library @ Sokcho'O

Nice Job
How much does it cost to upgrade a knight to a cav?

Since we just captured Sun Tzu's, our new cities on the dutch land will have barracks. Mil. Trad. is in three turns, and we are making 184 gpt.

Is it feasible to upgrade all those knights in our SOD to cavs or would it be better to beat on the dutch while they are down with our knights?

All depends on the upgrade from knights to cavs.

Upgrading Knights to Cavalries are pretty cheap. 30 gold per Knight, and we're filthy rich, so we won't have problem upgrading them. We'll be getting the Military Tradition in 3 turns.

Also, don't forget -- we have steampower and coal hooked up, we can build railroad now :D

Great job ShogunTaka. I knew you would take the bait and finish off Groningen. :D And you caught that settler I had primed up on Maastricht. Nice. Great trading too. We're actually starting to get a little gpt for techs. Cool.

The losses were pretty much what we expected. At least we have those Hwachas now. And Cavalry will help to finish off the Dutch. Definitely upgrade our knights. With Cavalry and Hwachas, we should be able to dominate the world.

But I have to ask? Military Tradition? :crazyeye: Wang Kon would want Ironclads afterall. Not stinkin' cavalry! We shall dominate by controlling the seas! We have our Lighthouse. We have Magellans. Now on to Ironclads and then full steam toward Combustion! With haste!

Oh, and let's pick our next target... Portugal anybody? :D

That's what I thought. Wang Kon is smitten with the sea. We were beelining for all naval techs, building all naval wonders, and making sure we had a large navy (which we've taken some liberties with, I imagine).

I didn't get it :p. I haven't had a chance to play yet, so I didn't look. Sure enough, it's not there.
