SuBI1 - Masters of the high seas

Sorry it's taking so long. I'm downloading it now.

EDIT: :mad::mad: ARGH! I can't play now. I'm really sorry. I'll play a little later. I promise.

Skip me, C3C isn't working. I thought I already mentioned that.

Okay. I wasn't sure if C3C was back up for you yet.

I've kinda lost the thread of where we're at at the moment. What were the major things we were planning (other than more ships :))

Whoa, I'm back from a week vacation and still not a game is yet played :eek:

Balast, take over the Byzantines, and then build up a fleet of galleys in preparation for the invasion on the Dutch.

The Dutch, Spanish, and the English are the tech leaders (so are we) but I've pulled back the researching to 0%, because we're broke from over-populated unit supports. As the game varaint rule enforces this, we're supposed to research Astronomy before anything else. I believe that the those 3 AIs will be researching them. They'll probably discover it before us. I proposed researching the Gunpowder, but again, the game variant rule (King Wang) opposed this. Both Taejon and Seoul are building Universities, and they'll be done in 4 and 3 turns. After that, I am hoping we can grab the Astronomy before the AI's do.

After a long hiatus and period of interregnum, there arose a great leader, one Balastulin-shi to take the throne. He immediately noticed a rather nasty splash of maroon at the top of his kingdom and decided it should be eradicated forthwith...

660 1

Not much happening. Merely moving troops around

IBT

A longbowman kills one of our medieval infantry...

670 2

Kill the LB and move into position to attack Nicea

IBT

Deal runs out on silks and incense. Cost to renew is 162 +20 plus spices. I take it.

680 3

Trebuchets knock defending spears to 2 HP then MI's capture Nicaea without loss. On to Adrianople. Seoul University > Leonardo's. Should be handy for Naval upgrades/prebuild for Magellan's

Astronomy due in 20 on +3 gold

IBT

LB takes another MI

690 4

Pyongyang Aque> Temple. They're not feeling the love down in Pyongyang.

IBT

LB attacks our stack, but I cunningly placed a Pike in there to take account of this eventuality. LB dies.

700 5

Move into position on Adrianople and...

710 6

It's ours. 1 MI lost but three slaves gained and off to Smyrna...

720 7

Moving troops and clearing jungle...

730 8

A number of attacks against Constantinople. None die, though a couple take damage.

740 9

Smyrna falls to the Korean hammer, swiftly followed by Constantinople. There are but two Byzantine cities left in the world. I recommend they be sworded (or maced as is the case) ASAP so that resistance and culture flips finish.

I leave the save here as I had to get back to work.

Things are looking good for us. First priority for the next leader is of course to finally destroy the Byzantines. Second however is to build a large fleet of galleys so that we can take a large invasion force over to the Netherlands. Now, one problem here is that they will have Swiss Mercs who will be rather difficult to dislodge. We were fortunate enough to only have to deal with spears and no pikes in Byzantium, but we will NOT be this lucky in sunny Netherlands. So the question being, do we wait for Cavalry? We beeline from Astronomy to Navigation. Once we are the first to do this, we will have a very good bargaining tool as we will also have the first maps to trade.

Cavalry is four techs away. Hah! What am I thinking about? Once we have Hwacha we can lethally bombard all those nasty mercs and, as long as they're adequately protected by Muskets, we won't have a problem at all.

Duh... Just realised that Seoul can't be a pre-build for Magellan's as it's not on the coast...

Just a preview of my turn so far. I have a few more turns to play this evening. I should be posting it tonight - with pics ;) .

Two cities became three as Smyna flipped back, but the Byz are down to 1 and about to cease to exist. Crossing my fingers for a GL as we need our FP built.

Astronomy is ours! But tech lead trio (England, Spain, and the Dutch) know gunpowder and chivalry in addition to Astronomy. Actually Spain lacks gunpowder knowledge so they are somewhat close to us.

We can trade across the sea, which is good. But no one will take our gpt or our gold for techs, which is bad. I was able to trade Spain some horses for a couple luxuries. I could trade the Vikings iron for a couple more luxes if we want to strengthen them. They've really spread themselves around in the game, but are somewhat backwards techwise (similar to the remaining civs).

So the Dutch now have knights and maybe muskets. I may have to send a galley over to check for muskets... That Lighthouse is going to be tough to get! :mad:

Also, let's wait for our lux-importing deal with the Dutch expire first, and then we'll invade Netherland. We can't afford to destroy more of our reputation.

The Dutch having muskets makes no difference to us as a Swiss Merc is 1.4.1 and a musket is 2.4.1. So unless they're going to start attacking us with muskets, it's of cosmetic difference.

Anyways, by the time we get the Great Lighthouse, we'll have Navigation and will be building Magellan's. By the way, have we started a prebuild for that yet?

Due to the disappearance of several of Wang Kon's advisors, SpikeIt is called upon yet again to help guide the Korean people. War with the Byzantines wages on and the world does not seem to like to deal with the Korean People. Hopefully SpikeIt can change this.

Need to push the war versus Byzantines.
Do some MM'ing to up science. Switch all taxmen to scientists.
Switch some builds:
Pusan galley -> aqueduct
SpikeIt's Home aqueduct -> courthouse - not growing fast enough
Ulsan aqueduct -> courthouse - no growth
Kaesong rax -> harbor - we be seafaring folks!

[0] 740AD
Theology to Carthage for 13gpt and 12 gold.
We're clearing a lot of jungle we can't use at the moment, moving a couple workers.
Cranking science one more for loss of 3gpt. Astronomy in 7.

IBT
Byz dromom moving off shore. Some resistors quelled.
Wonson library -> pike
SpikeIt's Home courthouse -> aqueduct
Ulsan courthouse -> aqueduct
SpikeIt adds a gameroom onto the side of our palace.

[1] 750AD
Elite galley vs vet Dromon - redlines, but wins.

IBT
Inch'on MDI -> temple
Haeju worker -> settler

[2] 760AD
:sleep:

IBT
Smyrna flipped back to Byzantines...:mad:

[3] 770AD
Some troops head back to Smyrna. Others move toward Varna.
The Dutch have Astronomy.

IBT
Ridiculous barb logic - stack of barb horses move toward Portuguese settler last turn, instead attack our horse/spear combo on mountain. Last barb horseman kills our spear.
P'yongyang temple -> library

[4] 780AD
The barb horseman is vanquished.
Dutch have gunpowder! Liz has Astronomy and Gunpowder as well.

IBT
Another Portuguese boat coming toward our lands. What's with the purple at our southern tip anyway. Wang is not happy.

[5] 790AD
Seige on Varna: Trebuchet bombardment knocks a hp off two spears.
Vet MDI vs reg spear - wins.
Elite MDI vs reg damaged spear - wins
Elite MDI vs reg damaged spear - wins and Varna is ours!
Varna starts on library and starvation diet.
Spain has Astronomy.

IBT
We learn Astronomy and start on... Navigation, of course!
Wonsan pikeman -> Caravel
Portuguese start Leo's

[6] 800AD
Seige of Smyna part deux: vet MDI vs reg spear - wins
vet MDI vs reg spear - ouch, loss.
vet MDI vs damaged reg spear - wins! Smyna is Korean again! Starts on pike.
Navigation due in 12, with -4gpt.
No one will trade for gold. I cannot pull any tech trades.
But we can trade Spain horses for dyes and gems. Okay. Wow someone is now smiling on the diplo page.

IBT
Byz archer out of Heraclea attacks our Trebuchet stack and kills an elite MDI.
Taejon cathedral -> courthouse
SpikeIt builds on an office for the Ministry of Forestry

[7] 810AD
Trebuchets bombard Heraclea We won't attack this turn.
Spain will give 4gpt for a ROP. Okay.
Liz will give 1gpt for an ROP too. Sure. We are eager to please. Trade with us? Nope.
Give Ragnar Theology for Furs and 5 gold.

IBT
Portugal plants a third city on the southern tip.
And then this.
SuBI1_810AD_VikingIron.jpg

Ragnar demands iron from us. He will be someone to reckon with in the future and will likely take our two cities over on Easter Island if we war.
We are the Koreans! Go away... Ragnar babbles some nonsense and shoves off.
Jeju aqueduct -> harbor
Spanish start Copernicus.
Spain completes the Knights Templar.
Dutch start Copernicus.

[8] 820AD
Seige of Heraclea: Trebuchet bombardment - 4 hits in a row!
Elite MDI vs reg redlined spear: wins
Vet MDI vs reg redlines spear: wins!
Elite horseman vs reg redlines archer - wins!
Heraclea is ours and the Byzantines are no more. :hammer:
27 gold into the coffers, Heraclea, er, The Byzantine Memorial starts on a temple.
SuBI1_820AD_Heraclea.jpg

IBT
Portuguese and Dutch boats wandering our shores...
Pyongyang libary -> Caravel
Pusan aqueduct -> Copernicus (prebuild for Magellans)
Inch'on temple -> marketplace
SpikeIt builds little tower things onto the palace.
English start Leonardo's

[9] 830AD
Vikings will trade Chivalry for Education. Not a great deal, but...
Establish embassy in Trondheim...4 spears and 2 archers. Building cathedral.
Rush courthouse in Trebizond.
Trade Education for Chivalry as our rivals won't give it up.

IBT
Trebizond courthouse -> Forbidden Palace

[10] 840AD
Worker movement.

SpikeIt leaves yet again. The Byzantines are no more. Luxuries are keeping the markets brisk. A strange building is being built in Pusan which supposedly will magically change into an unknown wonder to allow swift travel by our ships. A questionable 2nd palace is being built in Trebizond.
But all is not so great. The Dutch and English know of a technology called gunpowder. The Vikings have seemingly sprouted up on all vacant islands, slowly becoming a power to fear. The greatest days of the Korean people have yet to occur.

Where's the Dutch?
