SuBI1 - Masters of the high seas

That's cool, Gogf. Good to see you're still around to play this. :D

Looking forward to your turns... Maybe we can get a little momentum going in this game.

Ive never seen a succession game accept someone this late, but seeing as how your short on players, maybe!

As a side not I havnt played in quite awhile and I am probably not up to a game on this level.

But whatever if you need me call me (as in err PM me)

Naval Power, if you'd like to play, give it a go. I was pretty much letting this one die as interest has obviously waned, but if you wanted to play, I'd still play along. Oblivion would likely give it a try as well as I know he's still active playing the games. And Balastulin may pop back in at any moment. I'll PM you as well.

A few points in case you haven't looked back over the thread. This is played with Conquests version 1.15. 1.22 is currently the latest patch, but this game cannot be played with that version. It is possible to have both versions installed at the same time.

Also, this games variant was to emphasize naval strength, to a fault. In each tech era, all research must be toward naval tech before all else. Wang Kon will allow tech trades to pick up useless techs such as Replaceable Parts, but would much prefer Combustion, allowing nifty Transports and cruisers, first.

Hopefully this is a welcome to the game. :goodjob:

Hi guys,

move into my flat on Tuesday so should have internet up and running soon. Reckon Friday we'll be able to start finishing this baby.

Anyeonghikasaeyo

Er, gesundheit? ;)

Glad to hear you are settling in nicely. I hope the work is turning out well. I'd love to finish this puppy up. Its been one tease after another trying to get someone to play their turns. NavalPower looked hopeful, but he's running 1.22 now and didn't seem interested in back patching. But I imagine I can get Oblivion to finish this out with us, since I'm in another SG with him. The rest of the team, well, let's just consider them MIA.

So, when you have the internet running, grab the save and play. I'll either get Oblivion to follow, or I'll play the next set. And I fully expect you to bring a true Korean perspective to our conquests now! :D

Turn 0 (1450AD)
Wow, thought I was done with Korea for a while... go around and check out the cities.
change Hamhung from Courthouse to an Aqueduct.
Change some scientist to taxman, still getting Refining in 3, but pulling alot more GPT.
Manp' doesn't need an aqueduct... not much more growth there... change it to Marketplace.
Change a scientist in Sardica and go from 3 turns to 4, so bring it back. We should now have a perfectly balanced research run there.
Alot of naval units I see... wow, alot
What is the diplo front like? At war with Netherlands and Isabella, but have no MA against either one. William won't talk, and Isabella won't give me what I want for peace. We're up everything but Free Artistry...
We have way to much irigation, not enough mines in several cities. Are we going to try and build hospitals? If not, I suggest going through each city that's producing more then 24 food, and either train workers from it, or else mine some of the irigation to balance it out a bit.
Also going to suggest revolting to Communism with an empire this diverse and spread out. We're spending almost twice a smuch on Corruption as we are on building maintenance... not a good prospect... I know our variant requires us to research to Amphibious warfare first, but once an AI has Communism on the table, we NEED to buy it.
To finish off spain we'll need to send some units from home to their 2 tiny island locations. One is in the far north, the other is in the fart south, on the same longitude. Also it appears that the Dutch are down to just Holwerd. I'm going to set a priority on getting at least 2 ships with units to that northern isle region and wipe out the Spanish and Dutch.

IBT
Dutch unload an archer on our northern isle city.
Several cities have resitance end.
Even more quell resitors.
Several cities produce units, not going to report anything but infra builds.

Turn 1(1455AD)
*** Murcia ***
Vet cav vs Vet Rifle - we retreat, doing 1 damage.
Vet cav vs Vet Rifle - we die, doing 2 damage
Vet cav vs 3hp Vet Rifle - we win, 2 damage
Vet cav vs 2hp Vet Rifle - we die, they promote.
Vet cav vs 3hp Elite Rifle - we retreat, 1 damage
Vet cav vs 2hp elite Rifle - we die, doing 1 damage.
vet cav vs reg spear - We win, 1 damage
vet cav vs reg spear - we win, 1 damage
vet cav vs 1hp elite rifle - redlined, but we win.
Murcia is ours! Set production to Barracks.
Send 4 cavs into Murcia to end resitance ASAP. Not much flip risk now.

*** Toledo ***
Vet cav vs reg rifle - We died, but redlined rifle.
vet cav vs reg spear - redlined, but we win.
3hp vet cav vs 1hp reg rifle - we win, and capture workers. Toledo is ours!
Capture spanish worker with a cav
I'm not quiet sure what you guys were doing with naval units, so I'm just using them as I see fit... mainly as troops transportation. I'm going to load up as many galleys as I can... not sure where we'll send them yet, but oh well.
Spend a while railroading and making the changes to the irigation tiles.

IBT
movement by the portugese.
The dutch archer died on our pikes.
Seoul Factory> Stock Exchange - Will increase this cities gold to ~140, almost doubling how much we're pulling per a turn right now.
Madrid resitance ends.
More cities have resitors quelled, and some cities starve.

Turn 2 (1460AD)
Gather our Cav together in Madrid, with some galleys and start to load them up.
Send some Carvels over to pick up our Hwach'a.
Unload a cav near Vitoria... it joins another one we had dropped off before I took over the turn set.

IBT
refining comes in. Set research to Steel at 80%, pulling 43 gpt, and getting steel in 7 turns.
Several cities starve down.
Murcia flips with about 5 hwach'a and a rifleman inside. We'll get it back now.

Turn 3 (1465AD)
Elite cav vs reg rifle - we win, no damage, reclaim Murcia.
Send a shipload of units towards Valencia, getting there in about 7 turns. Let the rest sit until we can figure out a target.

*** Vitoria ***
vet cav vs reg spear - we win, 1 dam, go elite
Vet cav vs reg spear - We win, 1 dam, go elite and Liberate Vitoria.
I've optimized about 5 cities so far in our core... they're producing zero extra food, and are about as productive as they can be.
Sell all our Baracks on the island with Sun-Tzu's.
I'm going to turn science off for the rest of my turns... or at least down to 10%. This will give us 460 gpt in the bank... we could use that to hurry some buildings.
Rush a marketplace in Constanipole for 156gold. It really needs it.

IBT
Constantinople Marketplace > barracks
Smyra Courthouse > barracks. I also MM this city to always have a scientist since it won't get any bigger then 6, and it's last citizen is only producing 1 food and 2 gold from a coastal tile.
We can now turn science completely off.
Taejon Factory > Cavalery. This is *1* shield away from 2 turns cav, and I just can't make it happen! If we had another hill or mountain in our radius... a mountain would be perfect!
Several cities starve down.
Chinje Harbor > Factory

Turn 4 (1470AD)
I group a fridate with a carvel, and space them so each group has it's own tile... this should allow for quicker dispersial. They're gathered around Santiago, ready to go wherever they're needed.
Upgrade some units.

IBT
some movement by the portuguese.
Several cities starve down to size 1.

Turn 5 (1475AD)
Workers continue on change irigation to mines in size 12 cities.
Unload troops next to Pamplona. Next leader will be able to take them out. Only 1 city left, Valencia and that's gonna need a boat sent over there to finish her off... I thought I did it, but can't find it anywhere... must have sent him with the bulk of the ships.
Notice a English worker building a fort on one of the islands that has a little bit of every civ on it. It's right between 4 of our cities... near Septum... I think they're going to try and make that a launching point.

Notes:
Continue to change irigation to mines in cities that are making more then 12 Food per a turn. This is crucial, and should be done ASAP.

Upgrade rest of our units, and get our army into the 15th century!!

This should get y'all started. Now sure if you want to use it, but it's there if you want it, and I think I did a fairly decent job of it... You can use it or not, no feelings will be hurt.;) If you want, I can pick up the other 5 tommorow, or not... have fun guys!
I left 6 galleys full of cav ready and active for the next player to use... should decide who the next target should be. The viks has a nice landmass that we aren't connected to at all... will ensure a quick and brutal victory I believe.

Sorry, no pics, just the save...

Hey, there's the push we've been looking for. :D One problem though. Oblivion mentioned over in DGIT that he was about 6 turns into this. :( Ugh. I guess you missed that note, Alerum. Well, I'll leave it to Oblivion to decide what to do.

But, some great ideas and moves. Yeah, we surely need Communism ASAP. Our main land production is only so-so as the land isn't terrific. But the AI isn't being very accomodating for a Commie run. Ugh. Stupid Wang Kon. As for the navy, that's part of the varient. We never really firmed up a strict ruling, but the idea was to have the largest navy by far as Wang Kon is foolishly fond of naval units.

As for the Vikings, I think they would prove to be the toughest target. Not to mention, we have 3 cities at their mercy on an island. But they would be an interesting fight. Domination is probably achievable leaving the Vikings be, but it would be close.

Anyways, despite your turns, I say we leave it to Oblivion to decide what to do. Since he was 6 turns in, I'd hate to replace his turns. Oblivion?

Wow, that was a surprise. No biggy on the 6 turns i had done, they were a bit disjointed anyway. Thanks for playing these Alerum :goodjob:

As for the naval units - check the title of the thread :p

Well, I'm a bit swamped too. Work is kicking me in the you know where. If I grab it in the next day or so, I'll post a got it. Otherwise its out there for Oblivion or Balastulin if he's settled in.

:bump: if someone doesn't take this save, I'm going to take it, play the whole thing, post my final score and results, telling you how it all ended, and then not uploading the save.:p

:D At the risk of having Alerum finish out the game for us, I got it. Work this week is a bit better so I should be able to knock out a round of turns.

Just so y'all don't think I've bailed on my turns, I have started. Its just another very busy week as I have lots to do before my vacation. I've already started auto skips in my other SG's. I'll have something posted no later than Friday. I plan to get both Spanish cities removed. Planning a nice little canal city to cut speed passage to Valencia. Mmmm. Love those oranges. Of course that city will crowd the cute Carthage city there. Hmmm. Not a bad target.

As for the next target. I'd rather keep Scandinavia on our good side. They have money to pay for goods, which is a plus. And they are probably the 2nd strongest civ in the game. The resource lacking Portuguese and Carthage are ripe for the pickings with England coming up next...

I'm back! Right-ho. After Spike-it I've definitely gots it. Although when I has it, could someones please tell me what to do with it. I've kinda totally and utterly lost the thread of this thing.

Okay. I'm going to have to bail on my turns completely. This week has been a pain. Too much to do, no time for civ. I'm going through withdrawals. And since I'm off to Switzerland tomorrow, I won't be able to play until after I return. So, Balastulin - take it away. I didn't really complete a turn, so just start with Alerum's turn. We are at war with Spain (two cities left) and the Dutch (1 city). Alerum left some troops outside one of the Spanish cities, the other, Valencia, is going to take some time to get to.

My thought process was to 1) rush a settler in new Spanish conquest lands to build a two city canal (separated by a lake) on our land near Carthage city. This would allow our boats to get to Valencia quickly. I was also thinking about attacking and taking out Portugal next. The Vikings are the greatest power, with England behind. We're well ahead in tech, but since only seaking naval tech s first, we are still stuck in Monarchy. My thinking is to leave the Vikings for last, using them as trading partners since they have gold.

Good luck. Sorry to leave it, but these last couple of weeks have been ridiculous. Things will be much, much better when I return. Its all rather aggravating to occur just when it seemed we'd get this SG rockin' again.

Take care.

SpikeIt

Hello again. I'm back from my trip and itchin' to play a bit of civ. Since nothing has been posted, I'm going to assume Balastulin hasn't been able to play it, so I'm calling got it again, unless I hear otherwise ( I won't be too hurt if I do :p).

Right-o, back on with my plans.

SpikeIt. I'm here but have just moved into a flat with no furniture and had a rather hectic couple of weeks. Will be able to play from Friday onwards most probably.

No furniture, eh? A good reason to head out and visit a local pub. :D

I'm just glad to have not stepped on your toes if you had started to play.

Just an update to show I'm no totally sleeping on this. I'm 5 turns in. Spain and the Dutch still live as ferrying troops over is taking some time. In the mean time I was prepping to wipe out Portugal once the ROP ended. My canal is almost set up to get to Valencia, and in good time too as the Vikings decided to attack on our shared land mass! We haven't lost a city yet, but Sariwon has lost both its rifles now. I don't think the MDI there can hold off another Beserk attack. But troops are starting to roll over from the main land. The Viking navy is proving to be rather pesky too, with privateers in plenty of supply. We may have the largest navy, but around Scandinavia, we are quite week. All boats standing off Portuguese shores have been diverted.

I decided to pull Liz in to distract the Vikings somewhat and to avoid having to fight her as well at the moment. With Ragnar's gold, she might have been easily bought. It cost plenty though, having to give up Steam Power. But at least she can't trade it to Ragnar at present.

The battle continues tonight...
