SuBI1 - Masters of the high seas

The turn log:

Right. If I can remember my thought process, continue to eliminate Spain and the Dutch.
Set up for cleansing of this island starting with Portuguese or English.

First target - Portugal. Troops set to take care of Spanish. Start cavs and Hwachas toward Portuguese northern holdings. Will deal with south last.

[0] 1475AD
Troops head toward new canal to take Valencia. Troops head north to take on Portuguese. Others head south.

IBT
Seoul completes Stock Exchange starts coal plant.
Various. One source of exhausted iron moves elsewhere in our territory.

[1] 1480AD
Seige of Pamplona: Vet cav vs reg spear - wins and promotes.
Vet cav vs reg spear wins and Pamplona is ours. Pamplona starts on a harbor as any good Korean town is prone to do. The rifle stays and the cavs load onto the caravel to pay the Dutch a visit.

Troop movement.
Ragnar would pay a whole heck of a lot for Steam Power. That's okay.

IBT
Madrid pushes out the settler to become the canal.
Taejon starts a coal plant.
Resistance in Murcia ended, starvation and worker push continues.

[2] 1485 AD
Settler will be in place in 5 turns.

IBT
Portugal calls: we have 10 turns on a ROP. They'd like our maps.
Frigate abandons Valencia to attack a privateer and sinks. How amusing.
Adrianople doesn't have a harbor?!! - start it.

[3] 1490AD
Ironclad sinks privateer and promotes to elite.

IBT
Hannibal is a little irritated with our boat on its shores. Its really tempting to take the pointy stick to Hannibal's head while we wait out the ROP with Portugal.

Forget all that. Looks like Ragnar wants to play. This should be interesting.
Vikings declare war. Didn't see that coming before.
SuBI1_1490AD_Ragnar_gets_aggressive.jpg

Beserk attacks from the sea at Sariwon and kills the rifle (GA probably, geesh). No other attacks.

[4] 1495AD
Its going to take much of our resources to take on the Vikings, especially if they kicked off their GA. Should we enlist the English in the mean time. Could be fun. The only way is to give them Steam Power. We're quite ahead, so its not a bad idea. Why not?

At Taegu, our rifle takes a viking worker. Oops, left Taegu undefended, but I don't think any Viking troops can get there. Reinforce Sariwon with another rifle and rush walls.

Okay, let's bring the English in to make this fun. Steam Power gets us the Alliance, plus Free Artistry, WM, and 42 gold.

Viking battlefield is three islands. The northern island holds their saltpeter. The Eastern island is their main island. Hopefully the English will battle there. The western island we share with them and will contain the brunt of our battle. Reinforcements are nearby, but for now its defense.

IBT
Attack on Sariwon, beserk kills rifle, MDI holds off cav.
Pirates sink a galleon, our privateer enslaves another privateer.
And Liz wants to end our ROP. Nice ally. We renew at even up.

[5] 1500AD
Seige of Halwerd: Elite Cav vs reg Swiss Merc, wins, but red lines.
Vet Cav vs Swiss Merc, Cav falls
Vet Cav vs Swiss Merc, wins.
A spear and archer are left.

We land troops on Viking saltpeter.

We reinforce Sariwon with 2 more rifles leaving Taegu undefended (our small rifle/cav stack will be there next turn.

Liz has Fascism which we lack. Intriguing as we need a more advanced government than Monarchy - pref Communism.

Give Liz dyes and gems for 33gpt and 42 gold.

IBT
Watch Vikings move beserks and archers north. Vikings ships sail the seas including some frigates in the north.

Vikings complete Shakespeares in Copenhagen.

[6] 1505AD
At Holwerd, cav picks off another spear.

IBT
Quite the movement by the Viking navy as they are at our mainland shores now. Also, they have put up a nice group surrounding Taegwon. Time for our cavs to pick a couple off.

[7] 1510AD
Our reg rifle attacks a Viking vet archer outside Vitoria: and loses! Aargh. I'll leave the other rifle to stand guard.

Our settler made up of Spanish citizens forms the Spanish canal.

Attack Viking saltpeter city of Farsund. Hwacha knocks 1hp off rifle. Vet cav redlines, but defeats injured rifle. Vet cav defeats spear and Farsund is ours.

IBT
Vikings impale an number of Beserks on Taegwon, promoting one rifle to vet, and the other to elite.

[8] 1515AD
Land some more troops on the Viking West Island. Troops south of East Island, keep moving by. Its Hwacha heavy, so not ready to attack East Island.

IBT

[9] 1520AD
Capture Viking city of Fauske killing a rifle and spear cleanly. Moving on.
Take Viking city of Risor, defended by 2 spear.

I pass on taking Valencia. If we do, we are facing the Vikes on their mainland for which we aren't quite ready for yet. Velencia will likely be a nice spot to get a foot hold though when we are ready.

Attack on Alesund: Not going well. Could use artillery support. Stop and wait for reinforcements. There are a ton of rifles there.

IBT
Dutch longbow dies attack Namwon.

Vikings attack Sariwon with a couple of Beserks, defeating one rifle, promoting the other.

Steel comes in, start on combustion for cool new boats.
Rotterdam riots...

[10] 1525AD
Karasjok: Elite Cav vs reg rifle: wins, elite cav vs reg rifle, loses. Vet rifle attacks rifle and wins. Karasjok is ours. We pick up some stray slaves. Northern viking island is ours.

Rush harbor in Farsund to connect.

A lot of troops are on the move. The vikings are going to be a little tough with those rifles. Let's build Hwachas and bomb them down.

Yup. Vikings kind of forced a war I wasn't planning on fighting. But it should be a fun war at least.

I think Balastulin is primed to play next... Let's wait for him to chime in.

Now, now. Calm down there Balas. Its been a while. Do what you do best... build ships! :D Have fun with it. The Vikings have a lot of coastal cities; maybe build some more boats (as Wang Kon likes of course), bombard thoses cities down and cut down those rifles. You have some Hwachas sailing in from the south which should help out. If you have time, in some of our higher producing cities, you may want to build some coal factories for the extra production.

Don't forget to show those Vikings who is boss. :hammer:

Hi guys,

I'm on a course at the moment so don't have any free time. I do intend to play, but you may have to wait on a while...

The good news is that I'm in Pusan!

Keith

What are you doing in Pusan? Shouldn't you be smackin' Viking heads around instead? :D

No problem. Its the way of this SG anyhow. Take your time. If you think you are going to take a week or more, let us know. Maybe Oblivion or Alerum would take a 10 spot while you are training and have it all ready for you when you can play... Either way, no matter.

I live in Pusan now. Nobody here seems to even know that we're at war with the Scandinavians. I'm trying to start full-blown mob lootings of Danish people's flats but to no avail!

I've been away from this SG (and Civ) that I'd want to give it a real good go, so it would probably be Sunday before I get my head down to it.

Is that OK with everyone or would someone else prefer to jump in?

I'm totally cool with that. Take your time. I didn't mean to pressure you. Have fun with it.

As for the lootings... maybe tell them in Korean? :D While you are there, you may want to ask about the Korean Spanish holdings. Supposedly Korea now has some nice vacation spots in their newly conquered Spanish territories. Just don't ask about Valencia yet. Its apparently a sore spot among the locals.

Morning,

Had a couple of go's the other day, shall hopefully post tonight. Bloody Vikings...

1530 – immediately start off on the rampage: after bombarding the rifleman at Vadso and injuring him, nobody takes his place so take a risk down at Tromso, killing the rifle to be replaced by a Spear. And… Gone.

Drop off a heap of soldiers near Alesund and what pops up next? An enormous Armada, the like of which brings tears of joy to an old Mariner such as Balastulin. Wang seems pleased with all this and though the cavalry and hwachas land near a nasty beserker, his frigates take a pop and hit him for two.

A mighty naval battle developed – the battle of Molde. A distinctly one sided affair, it started as a mighty privateer of the Royal Korean Navy wandered across the path of a frigate and being the mightily courageous people they are immediately attacked, survived and captured the vessel. As the Koreans cruelly laughed, they were immediately put into battle to combat their own countrymen in payment for their perfidious crimes. They faithfully went to their graves, but the ironclads cleaned the rest up…

IBT: Vikings attacked the Cavalry Hwacha stack and took out one cav, forcing another to retreat.

Elizabeth calls up asking for Spices and Incense for 12 gpt. I get it for 23gpt so we laugh our silly socks off to the bank.

1535 – Decide to make a tactical withdrawal from the Viking heartland as we have no real defensives and I don’t want to lose all those lovely hwacha. Sorry…

Hwacha pound Alesund and after the loss of two cavalry, it falls. Hurrah!

IBT: The Vikings want peace, but won’t give anything for it. Nah… Just witnessed my first Beserk attack. Didn’t go so well. Tromso is now Viking again and woe betide any collaborationists.

1540 – Well the Spanish are no longer a force to be reckoned with. Well, to be honest, there is no Spain…

Our plucky Privateer once again went up against a Frigate and captured it for no loss. This new baby then destroyed the (probably Beserker-carrying) Galley beneath. Hurrah!

1545 Liverpool is captured by our awesome cavalry. Swiftly followed by Hareid and on the Eastern island, Stavanger

IBT England and Portugal sign an MPP. Could be a useful way of getting out of the alliance vs. Vikings…

1550 A mighty army of Hwacha and cavalry land near Odense to attack next term.

IBT …

1555 Our mighty armies capture both Odense and Tromso for no loss! We are now 48% and 59%. Thinking some it might be time for some of those workers to go home…

1560 Wow. We really are rulers of the high seas. I’ve decided to concentrate all the naval forces in Sariwon, looking for a massive Armada over to the Viking Homeland. Mind, Carthage is an easier option…

Naval blockade of Molde and Bolo finished.

1565 Molde taken for a high price – six cavs but took his great leader and four workers. Combustion due in one. Reduced tax rate so that it’s up in two so next player gets it – I can’t have all the fun!

IBT Stack of three Beserkers and an archer turn up next to Hareid and…

1570 … are swiftly dispatched to Nirvana. Bodo taken after little resistance – their backs were broken in Molde. So now Eastern island is completely ours and that’s where I’ll leave it. Mid game so there are a few pieces to move.

The Eastern Island including Naval Blockade

Eastern_Island.JPG

Our Military. We truly are Masters of the High Seas - 43 ships. Of which 43 can be upgraded, I believe.

Military.JPG

Combustion due in one and we’ll have 1200 odd gold. Spend it pretty much all on upgrading our transports and then have the Korean mainland crank out the cavalry. If we keep the research to 0% we'll be able to buy our libraries, increase the land area, and upgrade all our ships. Then we would truly rock  . If we take out Carthage we should be OK for the target, but they do have an MPP with England. I think maybe just concentrate on Vikings. What does everyone else think?

We are 49% of area and 62% of population.

Have fun! :hammer: :hammer: :hammer:

Beautiful Battleships

Ooooh. Look at all that blue. Nice job, Balastulin. I would expect nothing less from a true Korean ship builder. :goodjob:

The age of the MPP is here. With our percentages rising, I was thinking peace with the Vikes and a good Carthage/Portugal cleansing is in order. But those MPP's make that a bit more, hmmm, complicated. So I say continue on with the Vikings, wiping them out as much as possible. If I recall correctly, they have a little 1 tile city island that we won't be able to take anyhow in the near future, so we should attack their mainland (I see that has been started in the north) and raze and replace cities to limit flips. Wiping out the vikes should just about put us over the top.

We might want to make a nice sailing/transport network to move troops from one land mass to the next quickly. With RR's we should be able to deploy troops relatively fast.

Maybe after another 10 turns or so, the MPP's will run their course and we can pick off one of the games weaklings.

So, with all that said, who's playing this next? I'm basically going to make up a roster. I'm not sure if Oblivion is interested in continuing this, but Alerum might enjoy another turn or so. Basically I don't care how long it takes anyone takes to play their turns in this as long as they claim the game or skip if they won't be playing it... so, let's try this for now... We should be able to wrap this up rather quickly at this point I imagine.

1) SpikeIt
2) Balastulin -> Just played
3) Oblivion -> Up if interested
4) Alerum68 -> On Deck

Just one thing: with transports, we can get troops moved from the heartland to the Viking heartland in just two goes (maybe even one if we get all the railroads on Eastern Island in place) and we place a new city on the nearest point to Eastern Island. The Vikings are totally in disarray and now don't have any resources, I believe. We want to wipe the Dutch out as well, but only have one cavalry up there. Two should be enough to knock 'em out.

if we take the Viks mainland out, that will give us more then enough tiles to win the game. Only need 370 as of the current save. May be worth the effort to just drive our attack home on 1 island, instead of spreading it out to take their small and corrupt cities.

DO IT!!! This has been going on far too long. I've visited five countries and moved continents during this SG!

Take it on my friend and enjoy
